Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 630 - 645: Code
"Single, female, 24 years old."
"Send her for tissue matching first, then find a buyer."
"Got it!"
The brief conversation confirmed An Ning’s suspicions.
She was wheeled in on a gurney, passing through several examination areas, a checkpoint at the gate, through layers of what looked like a slaughterhouse, and finally, through a solid steel door. She had arrived.
This was a small, private operating room.
An Ning was lifted onto the operating table by one person as if she were a piece of cargo.
Here, she really was just a piece of cargo.
THUD. An Ning landed on the operating table.
The person who carried her left, leaving only the butcher-doctor who would perform the operation.
The masked male doctor was preparing a syringe of anesthetic when An Ning’s eyes snapped open. She clapped one hand over the doctor’s mouth, snatched the needle with the other, and aimed it at his eye.
Her spiritual power instantly seized control of all the security cameras and the man before her.
"Have you seen this man?"
A picture of Jiang Xia appeared before the doctor’s eyes. Under her control, he was completely unable to struggle.
He nodded.
An Ning was ecstatic. ’He’s seen him!’
"Where... is he?"
An Ning was afraid.
She was afraid of hearing an answer she didn’t want.
"He was brought here, but he escaped. He’s a very good fighter."
’He escaped?’
’Good!’
"Why was he captured?"
This was the one thing An Ning couldn’t figure out. And if Jiang Xia had really escaped, why hadn’t he contacted her? Or what was preventing him from doing so?
The man pointed a finger upward.
"A big shot is sick and needs a heart."
’A big shot... a heart... so Jiang Xia was a special order!’ It wasn’t that they didn’t know Jiang Xia’s high status; it was just that someone even more important needed that heart.
"Who? I want a name!"
An Ning got the name. After asking about this place and getting many other names, she knocked the man unconscious and placed him on the operating table.
She cast a formation, and the man’s appearance began to change until he looked identical to how An Ning had looked before.
"Not killing you with my own hands is where I draw the line, but that’s my moral baseline, not yours. Whether you live or die will depend on whether the people here have any shred of mercy."
"Don’t worry, you won’t feel any pain. You’ll just watch, wide-eyed, as your organs are taken out."
"Don’t be scared. At least you know what’s about to happen. You’ll even be able to tell if your surgeon’s technique is any good. The people you captured knew nothing but boundless terror."
The man on the operating table pleaded desperately with his eyes, but An Ning was completely unmoved.
"People like you, where I’m from, are chopped up and fed to insects as samples."
An Ning left, using a spell to conceal her face and her spiritual power to evade all surveillance and personnel.
If one had a god’s-eye view, they would see An Ning moving with perfect stealth, flawlessly avoiding everyone. Not a single person noticed her.
After finding the office of the person in charge, An Ning created a diversion to lure them out.
She personally collected all the evidence, but when she thought of that name, she hesitated.
’Will it even work?’
’This is a sick country. Will evidence even matter?’
At that moment, her morals were in conflict.
She subconsciously looked toward the sky. In the grand scheme of things, she felt that her actions were being restricted.
’Accidents happen. It has nothing to do with me.’
An Ning took all the evidence and went out again. She found the place where people were held captive, but she wasn’t in time. This was the last link in their trafficking chain; the chances of survival for anyone brought here were zero.
An Ning took photos of the people in the freezers, collected a piece of jewelry or a lock of hair from each of them, and sealed them away to take with her.
"I’m sorry. I can’t take you with me, but you won’t be leaving alone."
An Ning, now ready, found several flammable and explosive items in the slaughterhouse’s warehouse. She dropped them along her path as she walked out.
When she emerged from the slaughterhouse, she closed her eyes.
"The lucky ones are those who get to live."
BOOM—
The entire building was instantly engulfed in a sea of fire, illuminating a vast stretch of the sky.
From an unnoticed corner, An Ning quickly departed to find Jiang Xia.
An Ning took the documents to an inconspicuous copy shop, paid a hefty sum to send the owner out, and copied the evidence countless times.
’If going up the chain doesn’t work, then I’ll go down to the masses.’
An Ning used up all the paper in the small print shop and even replaced the ink cartridges twice.
After she left, the shop owner, curious about what she had copied, tried to check the machine’s memory, but saw nothing.
The next morning, just as everyone was heading to work, countless sheets of paper suddenly began to flutter down from the sky.
People who casually grabbed a sheet gasped at its contents. Some even threw them away in a hurry as if they were scalding hot.
"This has to be fake, right?"
"I think it’s real."
"How is that possible?"
"Oh my god, who on earth did this?"
An Ning, having pulled off her big move, stuffed several thick envelopes into a post office mailbox and looked up at the sky.
’Jiang Xia, did you get my message?’
This operation wasn’t just to expose the crime; it was more about trying to contact Jiang Xia.
However, An Ning felt it was unlikely Jiang Xia was still in the city. ’If I were him, I’d run for the forest.’
Having executed her masterstroke, An Ning made a low-key departure.
After leaving, she received a call from Director Zhao. His side had already made the dentist talk and gotten some information.
It turned out the dentist had been selling people’s blood information overseas for years.
As for whether these people went missing, he claimed he didn’t know; he was just doing it to earn a little extra cash.
’Extra cash? Hmph.’
"Don’t worry, he’s been arrested on espionage charges."
"Good."
An Ning kept walking. On the other end of the line, Director Zhao could somehow sense that An Ning was not in a good mood.
"An Ning."
"Yes?"
"Go do what you need to do. We have your back. You have a home, you have support."
An Ning stopped in her tracks and said a solemn, "Thank you."
"Rest assured, I won’t cut any corners, but I won’t be discovered. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing flawlessly."
An Ning hung up and continued her search for Jiang Xia.
’He’s probably injured. If he’s injured, he’ll need medical treatment. He can’t go to a hospital, but what about a small clinic?’
An Ning started searching, following the route from the slaughterhouse.
Her efforts paid off. She saw a mark Jiang Xia had drawn on the corner of a wall.
A chubby little steamed bun, waving at her.
An Ning cried silent tears of joy.
"You fool!"
The bun was definitely not just a simple bun. Every line on it was binary code that could be translated based on its thickness, length, and distance from other lines.
Jiang Xia had left a five-word message.
Live, North Forest, love you.
He knew An Ning would come. He had never doubted it for a second.
An Ning wiped away her tears with both hands, the first smile appearing on her face.
’When I find you, I’m definitely going to teach you a lesson. What kind of time is this to be all romantic!’
