Chapter 631 - 646: An Ning Has Come

An Ning understood the message Jiang Xia had left. He had gone north, into the forest.

’He was alive, that much was certain, but he was definitely injured.’

Otherwise, Jiang Xia wouldn’t have left their private signal outside a clinic.

With this in mind, An Ning didn’t dare to waste a second. She headed straight north, toward the forest.

’As for getting revenge, that could wait until after she found Jiang Xia.’

Heading north, An Ning’s spiritual power searched ceaselessly. She found two more messages left by Jiang Xia.

One was at a fork in the road where Jiang Xia had left three words: Right, love you.

An Ning did something a little silly—she picked up the stone Jiang Xia had drawn a bun on.

Tucking it into her spatial storage, An Ning turned right. She gradually entered the outskirts of the city, followed a mountain road, and was soon approaching the rainforest.

There, she saw the second message from Jiang Xia.

It was a drawing of a bun, only a third of it finished. Beside it was a single word: Live.

An Ning’s eyes stung. As she picked up her pace, she released several hundred mosquito-sized microbots, sending them into the forest from every direction to search for Jiang Xia.

’He’s injured, and someone is chasing him.’

An Ning clenched her fists. Her spiritual power spread out like a net, surging into the forest to find any trace of Jiang Xia.

Meanwhile, Jiang Xia and his six companions were either wounded or maimed. Even Assistant Zhang, who was beside him, was on his last breath, trying to deliver his last words to President Jiang.

"President Jiang... make it back alive... and give me a bigger bonus, okay?"

"Save your breath. We’re all getting back alive. If you don’t believe me, then believe in An Ning."

Jiang Xia’s face was covered in fresh cuts, his lips were chapped, and the strips of cloth wrapped around his arm were seeping crimson blood.

"President Jiang, are you and Boss An together yet? Can I still win the bet?"

"You can! As soon as we get back, you’ll win!"

Assistant Zhang desperately wanted to close his eyes. His chest was wounded, making every breath a struggle. Jiang Xia had already administered emergency first aid, but their constant running had torn the wound open again, and blood was flowing relentlessly.

"That’s great... President Jiang, you all should go. Leave me behind."

Assistant Zhang knew perfectly well that he was a burden. With him slowing them down, none of them would be able to escape.

"Shut up! Say another word and I’m docking your pay!"

Jiang Xia’s words made the men beside him let out grim smiles. Special Assistant Zhang did too, followed by a series of coughs.

SHHH—

Jiang Xia made a gesture for silence, and the six men held their breath, not daring to make a sound.

Before, they only knew President Jiang was a brilliant businessman with a high IQ and a top-tier education. But this time, they learned he was also a master of nearly every form of combat.

On this business trip, Jiang Xia had brought three bodyguards. The other three men, including Special Assistant Zhang, were company employees.

If it weren’t for those four, they wouldn’t have made it this far; they’d likely have been disposed of by now.

Jiang Xia listened intently. He heard the buzzing of a mosquito, but it sounded different from a normal one.

When Jiang Xia’s eyes locked onto the electronic mosquito, two words escaped his lips.

"An Ning!"

"Jiang Xia!"

It was An Ning who had called out "Jiang Xia." She had just received the signal from her micro-detector.

In that instant, An Ning moved at an inhuman speed, racing forward.

A massive pack materialized on her back—it was the supply kit she had prepared for Jiang Xia and his men.

Her spiritual power shot toward Jiang Xia, condensing into a telepathic message.

"Wait for me!"

Down in the woods, a blissful smile spread across Jiang Xia’s face as he murmured a soft, "Mhm."

"President Jiang, we have to go. Otherwise, they’ll catch up."

"Let them come!"

This time, Jiang Xia’s aura was overwhelmingly domineering. He had backup now.

Jiang Xia felt not an ounce of shame about relying on a woman. In fact, he was incredibly proud of it.

’Whose wife would cross thousands of miles and venture deep into a forest just to save them?’

’Jiang Xia could proudly say, "Mine can!"’

’Though, she wasn’t his wife... yet.’

The six men were baffled. ’What’s gotten into him? Is he possessed by some evil spirit?’

"An Ning’s here. My future wife is here to save us," Jiang Xia said with immense pride. His heart warmed at the word "wife." If not for the circumstances and his physical condition, he would have gloated even more.

"Boss An? President Jiang, are you alright in the head?"

The six men knew Jiang Xia had been mumbling about An Ning coming, but they hadn’t paid it much mind, simply thinking that the two had a strong relationship.

’Even in the one-in-a-million chance that Boss An really did show up, what good would it do?’

Jiang Xia didn’t explain. He just waited with a dopey, lovestruck smile on his face.

At that moment, the other six men suddenly felt the urge to give up.

Every single one of them was injured and utterly exhausted.

Continuing to run was just prolonging their suffering—nothing more than a pointless game of cat and mouse.

Jiang Xia understood what his men were thinking, but he didn’t explain. ’Seeing is believing, and it would be far more memorable for them.’

Just then, another message from An Ning reached Jiang Xia’s ears.

She said: "Five minutes."

’Five minutes. That’s enough time.’

Simultaneously, the other team searching for Jiang Xia found the blood trail and followed it right to them.

Three minutes later, the pursuers were the first to arrive, completely surrounding the seven men.

"What, not running anymore? I thought you were so good at running."

The leader, holding his weapon, brought it down on Jiang Xia’s head with a THUD.

Jiang Xia’s head slumped to the side, but he just sneered.

"How many of your men died?"

Jiang Xia’s retort instantly enraged the man, but his next move was blocked by someone at his side.

"Hey! He’s useful. He can’t be harmed."

"Shit!"

After cursing, the leader glared at Jiang Xia, his eyes filled with rage.

Jiang Xia, who moved through the mountains with ease, had set up several traps along the way, costing the leader several of his men.

"You just wait."

"Fine by me. I’m not moving an inch. How else do you expect me to wait?"

Jiang Xia’s defiance made the veins on the man’s forehead bulge. With his men still holding him back, he had to content himself with spitting in Jiang Xia’s face. He then sneered and gestured for his men to tie up the group. However, when they saw Assistant Zhang, they decided to abandon the man who clearly wasn’t going to survive.

"Take them all away."

"Five... four... three... two... one!"

"What are you do— AARGH—"

A tree branch pierced the leader’s forehead, right between the eyes. He only had time to let out a stifled cry before his body toppled backward.

Then, the six men with Jiang Xia finally understood the true meaning behind the three words, "An Ning is here."

An Ning leaped into their midst from behind the encirclement, and a few ordinary tree branches became the deadliest of weapons in her hands.

With a few quick SWISHES, the men forming the circle fell one by one.

Even stranger, not a single one of them had time to fight back.

By the time An Ning’s feet touched the ground, the encirclement had vanished.

"Jiang Xia!"

"An Ning!"

Jiang Xia broke into a goofy grin.

"Who hit you?"

An Ning saw at a glance that the wound on Jiang Xia’s head was new. With a wronged expression, Jiang Xia pointed a single finger at the man lying on the ground.

An Ning glanced back at the body. "He got off easy."
