Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 632 - 647: Return
He got off easy.
Just one sentence made the six men who had come with Jiang Xia turn in unison to look at the defenseless person on the ground—or rather, the person who was no longer breathing.
’Mm—Boss An is right.’
’From now on, whatever Boss An says is right.’ This was the consensus the six men had reached.
’Jiang Xia? President Jiang?’
’He wasn’t as important as Boss An.’
"An Ning, Special Assistant Zhang?"
"I’ll handle it. You sit."
An Ning let go of Jiang Xia’s arm and walked over to Special Assistant Zhang, who was struggling to breathe.
"Boss... An."
"You’re going to live."
It was just four simple words, but for Special Assistant Zhang, who had been convinced he was a dead man, they ignited a fierce will to live. ’If Boss An says I’ll live, then I’ll definitely live.’
An Ning set down her backpack and took out a first-aid kit.
Disinfecting, treating, suturing—her professional attitude and expert technique were mesmerizing.
"Boss An, you know medicine too?"
"I learned it on the way here."
’Learned it on the way?’
What kind of prodigy was she? How could someone learn on the fly and be this good?
For the first time, Special Assistant Zhang felt that the world of geniuses was so distant from his own as to be completely incomprehensible.
"The bleeding stopped! So fast!"
"It’s a miracle!"
"This is... it’s just too... this..."
The stutterer got a smack on the head from the person next to him, and as if a jammed cassette tape had just been fixed, he finally managed to blurt out a single word: "Amazing!"
After that, An Ning gave emergency treatment to the remaining six men. She cleaned and dressed each of their wounds with clean, beautiful precision.
One man with a broken arm had the bone set by An Ning before he even knew what was happening. All he had time for was a yelp of pain, followed by a shout of, "Nice!"
Once everyone’s wounds were treated, An Ning took out some soft, easily digestible food for them to regain their strength.
When it was finally Jiang Xia’s turn, An Ning lowered her head, a little guilt-ridden.
"I’m sorry, I’m late."
"What are you talking about?"
Jiang Xia took An Ning’s hand and placed it over his heart. "I never once doubted you would come. I always knew you would, no matter where I was."
"Always!"
An Ning looked at Jiang Xia with determination. "When we get back, I’m making you a tracking device. No matter what corner of the world you go to, I’ll be able to find you."
"Okay!"
Jiang Xia agreed so readily that An Ning asked curiously, "You’re not afraid? It doesn’t feel like you’re being watched?"
"A little, but I care more about the fact that you’re looking out for me. When I think about it that way, it’s not so important. Besides, I have nothing to hide."
An Ning smiled faintly and continued to treat Jiang Xia’s wounds.
"Don’t worry, I won’t be checking your location all the time. I’ll set it up with a panic button. I’ll only look if you press it."
"You silly girl."
Warmed by An Ning’s thoughtfulness, Jiang Xia reached out to pat her head.
"Don’t move! And I’m not a silly girl!"
What should have been a flirtatious, loving moment was instantly deflated by An Ning.
"Heh heh—" A laugh rumbled in Jiang Xia’s chest. ’This is my An Ning. How can she be so cute?’
"You’re not silly, I am!"
"That’s more like it!"
The other six men, who were busy eating, overheard their conversation. For a moment, they all felt like they shouldn’t even be there.
They all kept their heads down, focusing on their food, but their ears were practically perked up, trying to catch every word.
After An Ning finished treating Jiang Xia’s wounds, the two of them also ate something.
Once everyone had regained some of their strength, An Ning told them it was time to leave.
As for the people lying on the ground here, An Ning had no intention of dealing with them, nor would she.
They had chosen this line of work; danger was part of the calculation.
You could only say they were unlucky enough to have run into An Ning.
An Ning took four small drones out of her backpack, deploying one in front, two to the sides, and one in the rear.
"What are these?"
Jiang Xia, walking beside An Ning, asked curiously. The six men behind them also pricked up their ears.
"Drones I designed. They can scout the path, provide early warnings, and even fire bullets."
The peanut gallery of six stood with their mouths agape, utterly speechless.
But in that moment, all six men had the exact same thought: ’What on earth did President Jiang do to deserve this? How did he win the heart of Boss An?’
’So he has a little money? Big deal. The world is full of rich people, it’s not that special.’
’Is it because he’s handsome? Give me a break. There are tons of handsome men—the cool and distant type, the dignified type, the stunningly beautiful type. You can find any kind you want.’
’When you really thought about it, was there anyone worthy of Boss An?’
Before this, they had felt the two were evenly matched, but they had always seen President Jiang through the lens of a powerful figure.
But now, seeing the invincible An Ning, the six of them understood what a true powerhouse was: someone with no weaknesses.
The group of eight traveled, resting periodically, until they finally reached the border.
An Ning had already contacted someone for a pickup; they couldn’t return to the country through normal channels.
As for settling the other scores, that could wait until after they were back home.
A rustling sound came from the forest. The small drones, which had been flying smoothly alongside them, instantly went on alert. Two finger-thick barrels emerged from their wings.
’Is that where the bullets come out? Isn’t it a bit too small?’
"An Ning, it’s me!"
The somewhat familiar voice made An Ning and Jiang Xia exchange a quick glance. ’Xu Cheng.’
"Why is it you again?"
"Should I go back, then?"
Xu Cheng pretended to turn back, but neither Jiang Xia nor An Ning made a move to stop him. Unembarrassed, Xu Cheng just turned around and walked back on his own.
"You two, honestly. You could at least learn some social graces and pretend to stop me."
The only response Xu Cheng received was silence from them both.
The group didn’t waste time catching up. They followed Xu Cheng and crossed the border smoothly.
Upon returning to their homeland and seeing a row of soldiers in green uniforms, the six men behind them wept with joy.
"Oh, Motherland, I’m finally back!"
"I have returned!"
The men were in a state of euphoric excitement, waving their arms, jumping, and shouting to vent their emotions.
An Ning and Jiang Xia let them be. They definitely needed it; otherwise, they might go crazy from holding it all in.
Hospital staff arrived quickly and took the men away for examination. The results showed that their wounds had been treated so well that no further procedures were needed; they just had to rest and recover.
At the same time, An Ning and Jiang Xia were summoned by Director Zhao. The old man had come in person again.
The two of them reported the entire sequence of events to Director Zhao.
"Our food at the hotel was drugged. I have a higher tolerance, so I was able to resist for a while, but I was still taken in the end."
"After the drug started to wear off, I found an opportunity to counterattack at the slaughterhouse. I cut their power, fought our way out with the others, stole a car, and escaped into the forest."
"They didn’t dare to kill me, which was a major reason I was able to escape."
After Jiang Xia finished, he looked at An Ning.
An Ning turned to Director Zhao and asked, "Things must be in chaos over there now, right?"
