Investing in My Harem in the Apocalypse Makes Me Stronger

Chapter 185: Cain’s Updated Advancement Mission

  • Next Chapter

Cain’s eyes narrowed.

’External reinforcements?’

Then more lines appeared before him.

[The overall difficulty of your 2nd-Echelon Advancement Mission has increased significantly.]

[Your 2nd-Echelon Advancement Mission is being recalculated.]

"..."

Cain stopped moving.

The battle continued below the ridge, but his attention remained fixed on the translucent screen.

A moment passed before the information changed.

[2nd-Echelon Advancement Mission has been updated.]

[Previous Objective: Destroy the World Gate Core responsible for the Zombie Race invasion of your World.]

[Previous Objective has been removed.]

[New Objective: Kill one of the designated subordinates of the Youngest Prince of the Zombie Race.]

Cain’s expression became serious.

’Youngest Prince?’

This was the first time he had heard that title.

The information continued.

[Receiving direct assistance against the designated target will invalidate the mission.]

[Mission Progress: 0/1]

Cain reread the conditions.

The System had replaced an Advancement Mission that required the destruction of the World Gate Core.

Whatever had entered the Corridor was clearly significant enough to alter the difficulty of the entire mission zone.

Cain’s gaze shifted toward the central region.

"Youngest Prince..."

He had no idea who that person was.

Nor did he know how many reinforcements had entered with him.

Still, the wording told Cain enough.

The Youngest Prince had brought powerful subordinates into the Corridor, and one of them had now become Cain’s path toward the 2nd Echelon.

From that alone, he could tell just how strong this motherfucker was because his mission alone required him to kill one of its subordinates instead of that bastard.

In other words, Cain guessed that it would probably be almost impossible for the current him to kill the Youngest Prince.

Cain’s expression hardened.

"Everyone!"

His voice carried across the battlefield.

Those already descending the ridge looked back.

"Finish this battle as quickly as possible!"

The seriousness on Cain’s face had already explained enough.

They had fought beside him for long enough to understand that Cain rarely became this tense without reason.

If something had made him suddenly change his attitude, then they could ask about it after the battlefield was under control.

Lightning surged around Ron as he continued forward.

Nathan raised his bow again.

Elara tightened her grip around her sword and increased her pace.

On the other hand, Aurelia remained still for a moment as a translucent screen had appeared before her as well.

Her original Advancement Mission had disappeared.

The requirement to kill a 3rd Echelon being alone was gone.

A new objective had replaced it.

Like Cain, Aurelia now needed to kill one of the Youngest Prince’s designated subordinates.

However, her restrictions were far less severe.

Others were allowed to assist her, provided that nobody at the 3rd Echelon or above participated in the fight.

As long as everyone helping her remained at the 2nd Echelon or below, the mission would still be considered valid.

Aurelia closed the screen and turned toward Cain.

"Your Advancement Mission changed too?"

Cain looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

The question alone told him that something similar had happened to Aurelia.

"Yeah."

He merely nodded as nothing more needed to be said considering their current situation.

Aurelia’s expression became serious as she unsheathed her sword.

Cain headed down the ridge.

Dozens of 2nd Echelon Zombie Race soldiers were still fighting throughout the Northern Anchor Town.

Hundreds of 1st Echelons filled the ruined streets around them.

Even with the sudden change to his mission, Cain had no intention of killing everything himself.

This battlefield was an opportunity.

Many members of his group still needed Levels, and the northern humans had already weakened a large portion of the enemy force.

Cain could help create openings while allowing the others to take as much experience as possible.

He entered the battlefield and intercepted a 2nd Echelon soldier rushing toward one of the exhausted northern fighters.

Clang!

Cain’s sword struck the enemy’s weapon and knocked it aside.

Before the zombie could recover, Cain kicked it in the chest.

Bang!

The soldier was thrown backward toward Ron.

"Take it!"

Ron understood immediately, Lightning gathered around his spear as he rushed forward.

By then, Cain had already moved elsewhere.

Another cluster of Zombie Race soldiers was pressing several northern humans against the remains of a collapsed building.

Cain entered from the side.

His sword swept across the nearest enemy and forced it away before he moved toward the next one.

He avoided taking unnecessary killing blows whenever someone from his group could finish the target instead.

Aurelia quickly understood what he was doing.

Her Light swords moved across another part of the battlefield, interrupting attacks and creating opportunities for her people to secure kills.

The arrival of both forces quickly began easing the pressure on the northern humans.

Cain looked toward Heavenly Demon again.

The black-haired man had heard his earlier shout.

Their gazes met across the battlefield.

Heavenly Demon did not know what had changed, but Cain could tell from his expression that he understood something serious had happened.

His black eyes moved toward the three commanders surrounding him.

The Demonic Qi around his body suddenly contracted.

"Fine..."

For a moment, the oppressive pressure surrounding the military plaza weakened.

The three 3rd Echelon commanders reacted at once.

The sword-wielding commander attacked from the front.

A heavy spear pierced toward Heavenly Demon from his side.

The final commander released a wave of gray-black Mana toward him.

Heavenly Demon inhaled, then used his skill—Demon Subduing the Heavens.

BOOOOOOM!

Black Heavenly Demon Qi erupted from his body.

The military plaza shattered beneath his feet.

The pressure that had briefly weakened returned far stronger than before.

All three commanders were forced to adjust their attacks.

Cain had already entered deeper into the battlefield, but his attention shifted back toward Heavenly Demon.

The difference was obvious as Dense Demonic energy circulated throughout the man’s body before spreading outward.

His long black hair rose behind him under the pressure.

The wounds across his arms began closing as his regeneration accelerated.

More importantly, the restraint he had shown earlier was gone.

Until now, Heavenly Demon had fought carefully.

He used his movement technique to avoid being trapped between the commanders and attacked whenever one of them exposed an opening.

Now he had stopped conserving himself.
