Chapter 208: 208 | Home Coming

Dexter smiled and opened the gate, walked up the path, and unlocked the front door.

He stepped inside and sighed in relief.

Finally home!’

It felt like he had been out of the house for a long time when he had just been out for about 8 to 19 hours.

His opened his eyes and what he saw made his expression freeze and his heart skip a tiny bit.

At that moment, Mira was sitting in her wheelchair exactly one meter from the front door and was facing the entrance as though she had been waiting for hours.

Her crimson eyes were fixed on the doorway and as Dexter came in, her eyes immediately locked in on him.

Dexter blinked.

He let out an awkward smile and spoke.

"I’m home."

Mira continued staring at him without blinking, her crimson eyes boring into his face intensely.

Then she spoke.

"Who is she?"

Dexter’s face filled with genuine confusion.

"Who are you talking about?"

Mira smiled and it was not a warm smile.

"The fourth wife, of course," Mira said.

Dexter swallowed.

"Stop joking. Of course there is no fourth wife. You three are enough for me."

Mira glanced at him.

"Three?" she repeated. "Three is never enough for a man."

She leaned her head forward slightly in her wheelchair.

"Don’t worry. I won’t be angry. Just tell me who she is."

Dexter scratched the back of his head. "I am serious, Mira. There is no one else."

Mira continued staring at him and her expression didn’t soften.

"This is your opportunity to tell me the truth," she said. "I promise I won’t tell the other two girls."

She paused.

"I might even support you in collecting a fourth wife."

Dexter stared at her. "What?"

"Just tell me who she is." Mira tilted her head. "And how was she?"

Dexter frowned. "What do you mean, how was she?"

Mira shrugged with exaggerated nonchalance. "Of course I have to ask. How was she compared to us?"

Dexter’s mouth opened. Then closed. Then opened again.

"I have no idea who you are talking about, Mira."

Mira smiled wider.

"Does she have a better figure than me?"

"No," Dexter said immediately. The response was instinctive. Reflexive. The product of a survival instinct that had been honed by three weeks of living with three women.

"Oh, that means she’s prettier than me?"

"No!"

Mira blinked. Then she smirked.

"Oh," she said. "So it was a prostitute."

Dexter pressed his palm against his face.

"Mira. There is no other woman."

Mira stared at him for several seconds. Her expression was unreadable.

"So you’re are saying you didn’t go to see a woman?"

"Dexter immediately shook his head. "Like I told you before I left, I went to see the heroes I fought with and also to get a place for us to live."

Mira nodded her head slowly and then she leaned back in her wheelchair.

"Then why do you smell like another woman?"

Dexter’s face changed slightly.

’This girl is quite perceptive. Didn’t know she had an extraordinary sense of smell!’

His mind raced as it hit him.

Aurora.

She had been sitting in the passenger seat of his SUV for a few minutes. And he had been sitting in that same cabin for the twenty-minute drive home.

He had never expected her scent to linger on him to the extent that Mira would notice.

But Mira had noticed.

Because Mira was not an ordinary person. She was a former A-Rank hero with S-Rank mana affinity. Even with her cultivation sealed and her body crippled, her sensory perception was far beyond that of a normal human.

And she had caught him.

Mira’s smile became even more dangerous.

"Oh, did you think I wouldn’t notice?" she asked. Her voice was sweet. Honeyed.

"You were gone for hours," she continued. "You said you were meeting some heroes."

Dexter replied quickly. "I was."

Mira’s smile widened by a fraction. "So the hero you went to meet was a woman."

It wasn’t a question. It was a conclusion. Delivered with the finality of a judge reading a verdict.

Dexter’s mouth twitched.

’This is getting dangerous.’

He tried again. "There isn’t another woman, Mira."

"So explain this scent," Mira said. Her voice was no longer sweet. It was flat. Direct. The voice of a woman who had moved past the interrogation phase and was now demanding evidence.

Dexter stood in the entryway, as he sighed.

Then he noticed a figure in the corridor.

Lyra was standing at the edge of the hallway, partially hidden by the doorframe.

Her dark eyes were fixed on Dexter as she smiled in amusement. She seemed to be enjoying this.

Dexter took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

"What do you know about the Fourth Dimension?"

Mira’s face changed drastically as the dangerous smile on her face vanished as her crimson eyes widened.

"Who told you about the Fourth Dimension?" she asked.

Dexter blinked.

He was surprised by her reaction. Not by the fact that she knew about the Fourth Dimension. He had suspected she might, given her previous status as one of the city’s top heroes. But the intensity of her response surprised him.

Then he told her everything from the beginning.

He didn’t have to as he could have just ignored her told her but then, he chose to tell her everything.

He told her about the squad meeting.About Cole and Blitz and Gridlock and the Tank, about the squad formation and his acceptance.

Then he told her about Aurora.

About how she had followed him to the parking lot, her proposition, the portal, the death place of a Legend Realm expert.

He told her everything and Mira listened quietly.

When Dexter finished, Mira was quiet for a long time.

Then she said something that surprised both of them.

"You could go."

Dexter stared at her.

"I’m sorry?"

"You could go," Mira repeated. "With the speed of your advancement, you will enter the Ultra Realm in a year or two. Maybe sooner. And within five years, you might reach the peak of Ultra Realm."
