Chapter 207 | Treasure Trove
Chapter 207: 207 | Treasure Trove
Aurora glanced at Dexter as though he had suddenly grown a second head.
Her eyebrows furrowed. She continued to look at him for a long moment, her dark eyes searching his face for any sign that his refusal was a negotiating tactic rather than a genuine rejection.
She found none. Suddenly, she smirked and then turned to face forward, looking through the windshield at the pedestrians walking past the restaurant.
She remained silent for a while, Dexter also remained silent. A pigeon landed on the hood, stared at its own reflection in the windshield for a few seconds, and flew away.
Ot was at that moment that Aurora spoke.
"All right. Rachel said you would reject."
Dexter blinked. His eyebrow rose sharply.
"You know Rachel?"
Aurora nodded. "Yeah. We are quite familiar with each other."
Dexter’s brows furrowed.
"Was she the one who told you about me?" Dexter asked carefully. "Did she point you in my direction for this expedition?"
Aurora shook her head slightly. "She knows almost nothing about this mission. But when I mentioned that I was considering you for the expedition team, she smiled. And she said you would never agree."
Aurora glanced at Dexter from the corner of her eye.
"Which, now that I’m looking at it, is quite correct."
Dexter blinked. "Oh."
Aurora looked at Dexter.
"The expedition is in three months," she said. "I told you that already but didn’t want to say this," she continued.
Dexter waited.
"Although we are entering the Fourth Dimension, we are not truly entering the Fourth Dimension."
Dexter blinked his eyes. "What does that mean?"
"The location we’re entering is a space connected to the fourth dimension. It’s like a dungeon but not truly one as there is a chance we could actually head outside 4th dimension.
Aurora’s tone became solemn.
"It is believed to be the death place of a Legend Realm expert."
Dexter’s pupils constricted.
Legend Realm which is above Transcendent and even Above Supreme. The highest cultivation realm that existed.
There were no Legend Realm experts alive in this country. There were none alive anywhere, as far as anyone knew. The last confirmed sighting of a Legend Realm existence had been over two hundred years ago.
A death place of a Legend Realm expert was a massive treasure trove of knowledge, techniques, resources, and power.
"That is the only thing I can tell you," Aurora continued. "As for which Legend Realm expert it was, I can’t reveal that information. Not until you are committed to the expedition."
She let the information settle.
"It was said that there are techniques inside that pocket space. Techniques to advance past the Transcendent Realm. Techniques to reach the Supreme Realm. Perhaps even beyond."
Each realm was exponentially more difficult to reach than the last. Talent alone was not enough!
The gap between Ultra and Transcendent was considered the greatest bottleneck in cultivation. Thousands of Ultra Realm experts across the country spent their entire lives trying to break through and failed.
Anyone who broke through to the Supreme Realm would gain absolute power and authority.
"You should think much deeper about it," Aurora said. Her voice was quiet but insistent. "You are already at the Superhuman Realm. You will break through to the Ultra Realm eventually. But above Ultra is Transcendent. And to break through to the Transcendent Realm, talent is not enough."
She looked at him.
"You have three months until the expedition. But you have two months to change your mind. After that, the preparation window closes and I proceed with or without you."
She reached for the door handle.
"My contact information is with Rachel. You can also obtain it from the Hero Association if you prefer."
She didn’t wait for Dexter to respond.
The passenger door opened and warm afternoon air rushed in as Aurora stepped out, closed the door behind her, and walked away without looking back.
---
Dexter sat alone in the SUV.
He stared at the space where Aurora had been sitting as he thought about what she had said.
The death place of a Legend Realm expert. A pocket dimension within the 4th Dimension, Techniques to advance past the Transcendent Realm. Possibly beyond.
It was true that reaching the Transcendent and Supreme Realms was extraordinarily difficult. For most hero, it was impossible.
Even the most gifted heroes in the city, the Auroras and the S-Rank prodigies, would eventually hit that wall and stop.
’But I am not most people! I have the 10,000x Investment Multiplier System.’
Every investment he made in his wives, returned to him multiplied a hundredfold.
As long as he continued to invest in his wives, the system would continue to advance his strength.
He was not afraid of encountering a bottleneck.
He wasn’t sure if the system could break through natural cultivation bottlenecks, the fundamental barriers between major realms that existed independent of mana quantity or talent level.
But that was a problem for the future.
He was currently at the Tenth Stage of the Superhuman Realm.
Each of those barriers was a bridge he would cross when he reached it.
For now, the system was sufficient.
What the system could not do, however, was heal his wives.
The system gave him the tools to help them. But the healing was slow. Incremental. Mira’s right arm had moved after three weeks of sustained, daily effort. At that rate, full recovery could take months. Years.
The Fourth Dimension, according to Aurora, offered a 50 percent chance of finding a cure.
Dexter shook his head.
’Not now. I have time. Two months to decide.’
He started the engine. Pulled away from the curb and merged into traffic.
Twenty minutes later, he turned onto his street and the bungalow came into view.
The freshly painted fence gleamed in the late afternoon light and the repaired window caught the sun and threw it back without a crack or a blemish.
He looked at the house and felt something settle in his chest.
He had been gone for hours which was probably the longest he had been away from his wives since they moved in.
’I kind of miss them.’
The thought actually caught him offguard.
