Chapter 62 Falling, Reaching the Summit
Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Falling, Reaching the Summit
Xiao Yu glanced back at Feng Yin and the others, wasting no time before vaulting onto the roof of the elevator. Being a half-step Fierce Level combatant, she was incredibly agile and easily made the jump without any assistance. She quickly leaned down and extended her hand. "Eldest Senior Sister, come!"
Xie Yanran nodded and leaped up.
After ensuring everything was clear, Xie Jingyuan vaulted up to the elevator doors on the floor above. He thrust his sword straight into the gap between the doors and forcefully pried them apart. His blade seemed to be a divine weapon forged from a special alloy; even under the terrifying strength of his arms, it showed no signs of bending, easily forcing a gap between the metal panels.
Amidst the blaring sirens, Xie Jingyuan reached in and forced the doors fully open with his bare hands. He turned back, extending his arm with a shout, "Xiao Yu, get up here!"
Xiao Yu obediently jumped up and was effortlessly pulled into the corridor by Xie Jingyuan.
"Hong Yuan, you’re next!" Xie Jingyuan reached out again.
Having just been pulled up by Xie Yanran, Hong Yuan didn’t hesitate. He leaped up and was caught by Xie Jingyuan.
"Yanran, hurry."
Xie Yanran, who had just helped Feng Yin up, quickly turned and jumped, smoothly entering the corridor. Meanwhile, Feng Yin was leaning down, reaching out to pull a guard up.
Looking down from above, Xie Jingyuan grew anxious, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell Feng Yin to leave the guard behind.
In the next second, whatever was yanking on the elevator from below seemed to lose its patience. It let out a thunderous roar. "DIE!!!"
CLANG!
The steel cables spun rapidly. Reflected in Xie Jingyuan’s trembling pupils, the elevator began to plummet, taking Feng Yin down with it.
Xiao Yu, who was leaning over to watch, shrieked.
Reacting with lightning speed, Xie Jingyuan dove forward and grabbed the safety cable. With a furious roar, he entered his Dragon Transformation State. The muscles in his arms bulged as he desperately hauled the cable.
"UP!!!"
SCREECH!
The plummeting elevator car jolted to a sudden halt. The abrupt stop sent the guard Feng Yin was holding crashing back down to the floor of the elevator.
CRACK!
In the very next instant, Xie Jingyuan watched in shock as the supposedly unbreakable safety cable snapped, along with all the other steel wires! Even the safety clamps had failed. Unrestrained, the elevator car instantly plummeted in free fall.
Feng Yin had no time to worry about the guards howling in despair inside the cabin. He launched himself sideways, planting his foot against the shaft wall. In a flash, he rebounded off the wall, leaping to the opposite side before springing off again. Zigzagging back and forth, he shot back up to the open elevator doors under everyone’s astonished and delighted gazes, where Xie Jingyuan grabbed him and yanked him into the corridor.
Xie Jingyuan patted his shoulder with a smile. "Not bad. Good job."
The other three gathered around. Mimicking Xie Jingyuan, Xiao Yu patted Feng Yin’s arm. "Hehe, as expected of my Eldest Junior Brother! Your reflexes are sharp."
Feng Yin let out a long breath. "Phew... I almost thought I was a goner."
CRASH!
The deafening sound of the elevator smashing into the bottom of the shaft echoed from below. The four guards trapped inside were highly unlikely to have survived.
The group fell into a brief silence.
Feng Yin felt no particular emotional fluctuation. He would naturally save people if it was convenient and his own safety was assured, but he felt no psychological burden when it proved impossible.
Frowning, Xie Jingyuan said, "Under normal circumstances, there’s no way an elevator belonging to a massive entity like the Zero Point Consortium would just snap like that. Someone tampered with it. Coupled with the riot caused by these special Adjusters... it seems the hidden enemy’s target really isn’t Xiao Yu. Just who is targeting the Zero Point Consortium?"
By the coast of Border Prison Island.
"You tampered with the elevator’s steel cables and safety clamps? When did you do that?" Ryan asked curiously as he changed into his diving suit, glancing at the plain-looking Baal.
Baal offered a simple, honest-looking smile. "It was just something I did in passing. If that CEO Simon happened to be in the elevator and plunged to his death, it’d be pretty amusing."
"Oh, Baal, you really are devious." Shaking his head in awe, Ryan slipped on his diving goggles.
The two men waded into the sea with their waiting associates.
"Where are the others?" Baal asked.
"Adam said that since Ya Lie actually passed on this killing job for once, Hyena, Sharp Blade, and Ghost have all infiltrated the Death Madness Tower."
"To kill that little heiress from the Xuan Guang Group?"
"Yep. If they succeed, there’s an extra ten million in it for them. And that’s Alliance Coin—its purchasing power is very strong." Smiling faintly, Ryan bit down on his mouthpiece and submerged himself in the ocean.
Baal shook his head with a chuckle. "The target is being protected by an Ultimate Level monster. If they fail, they’ll probably be dead." With that, he dove into the water as well.
Inside the Death Madness Tower.
Feng Yin and the others followed closely behind Xie Jingyuan as they sprinted down the corridor. They quickly turned into a designated safe passage, but were stopped by guards after going up one floor. However, due to Xiao Yu’s prestigious status, they were immediately let through after a brief verification.
Upon entering the lobby, Feng Yin noticed a large crowd of stranded people. Most of them looked rather disheveled, having likely fled up here for refuge as well.
Not only that, but Feng Yin astutely observed that many of the guards stationed here were exceptionally robust with sharp, piercing gazes. Their every movement and posture exuded a formidable aura. Among them was Saito Gaku, whom he had briefly met the other day.
He realized, "These guys are all Fierce Level..."
It was clear to Feng Yin that these special guards were the true elites of the Death Madness Tower, all gathered here to protect the wealthy.
"It looks like everyone has gathered on the top floors for shelter," Xiao Yu casually deduced, glancing around.
Led by a young butler who had been sent to receive them, the group ascended via an internal staircase. They soon arrived at the top-floor executive suite. Among the numerous elites, they spotted the administrator of the Death Madness Tower—Simon. Beside him stood the incredibly handsome red-haired Swordsman, Felt.
Simon looked terrible, but he managed to force a smile when he saw Xiao Yu. "Ms. Chen Yu, I’m glad to see you’re unharmed."
"Mr. Simon, with my master protecting me, I naturally wouldn’t be in any danger," Xiao Yu replied with a faint smile. "However, the situation the Death Madness Tower is facing right now doesn’t seem very good at all."
Simon obviously knew she was hinting at the escape of the Adjuster experimental subjects. That was indeed the source of his current headache, but it wasn’t even the worst of it. Judging from the reports from below, the escape of the experimental subjects was merely a smokescreen to cover a corporate spy’s exfiltration. The theft of experimental data was the real catastrophe.
Forcing a smile, Simon said, "I’d like to ask Ms. Chen Yu for a favor—please keep this matter confidential. Your helicopter has already been prepared, and you are free to leave at any time."
If it were any other ordinary aristocrat, Simon could easily leverage the "face" of the Zero Point Consortium to enforce their silence. But he couldn’t force Chen Yu of the Xuan Guang Group to comply.
Xiao Yu nodded, implicitly agreeing to keep the Zero Point Consortium’s secret. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she quickly asked, "Mr. Simon, I wanted to ask—is Shen Jia, the girl who came with us, here?"
