Island Survival: I Build a Moving Castle at Sea
Chapter 138: Can’t Understand Her
Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Can’t Understand Her
Opening the chest revealed bundles of knockout incense and bottles of knockout drugs—everything imaginable.
Shi Zhiyi looked at Shi Zhile and silently shook her head, signaling for her to refuse.
Shi Zhile put away the chest. "Don’t worry, Sis. I know what I’m doing."
Night deepened, and as before, some players stood watch while others rested.
Shi Zhile lay down on her bed and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
「Three more days passed in a flash.」 The weather had been fair and the sea calm for all three days.
By now, the primitives had completely relocated to Stone Island. To the players, temperatures of forty to fifty degrees Celsius were lethal, but to the resilient primitives, it was just a hot day.
After the primitives left the island, their settlement suddenly felt vast and empty.
To better observe the coast and defend against the skyfire, all the players chose to set up camp by the sea.
Night fell quietly. The tide came in, quickly submerging the beach.
Shi Zhile and Shi Zhiyi sat side by side, tending to the fire and roasting meat skewers.
Shi Zhiyi said, "Are you really planning to take them into your Planting Space? If someone wakes up inside, the secret will be impossible to keep. Especially since the players in this instance are from various regions. Once they leak the information, there will be no shortage of players looking to kill you and take your things."
Shi Zhile nodded and leaned close to her sister’s ear to whisper, "Actually, I have another space. As long as I want, any player taken inside will be devoured by it."
A notification would pop up whenever an outsider entered the Breeding Space. As long as she didn’t answer it, the option to devour them would remain pending.
So, even if the knockout incense Jiang Yuxing gave her was fake, she still had the ability to make everyone disappear.
Shi Zhiyi gasped.
’She has another space? Just how much does the game favor her!’
’The man himself is innocent; his treasure is the crime. For the weak, a treasure like this space is more of a curse than a blessing. The fewer people who knew about this, the safer she would be.’
She looked around, and only after confirming no other players were nearby did she breathe a sigh of relief. "Don’t let a third person know about this. Not even Jiang Yuxing."
"Sis, don’t worry about Jiang Yuxing. His identity is..."
"Zhile!"
Jiang Yuxing’s voice from behind cut her off.
She turned to see Jiang Yuxing and Jiang Jing approaching together, their faces grim.
"There’s a situation at the North Coast. The sea is showing signs of receding. I’ve already told the other players to hurry over here."
The two sisters stood up and walked closer to the shore.
A red flag was stuck in the sand of the submerged beach. The waves near the shore were small now, and in the faint firelight, one could only see the dark surface of the sea and the unmoving flag.
"Waves without wind. It looks like tonight won’t be a quiet one."
Jiang Jing said, "Should we take a batch of players into the space first? Once the tsunami hits, the players will definitely panic. It’ll be difficult to get all of them into the space then."
Shi Zhile replied, "No. We don’t need dead weight."
’In a crisis, what the country needs are people willing to follow orders! There are plenty of smart people, but just as many who insist on doing their own thing. If they retreat before the danger even arrives, it will just foster a habit of running at the first sign of trouble, even if they all survive. Besides, Wei Zhan already instructed them to follow commands when the tsunami hits. If they can’t even manage that, then there’s no point in them surviving.’
Jiang Jing didn’t speak again. Instead, he squatted down to carefully observe the water.
Shi Zhile opened the instance’s group chat. There were currently 163 players in the group, 112 of whom were living in the Huaxia Tribe.
[Fei Wuyou: We were all doing just fine on the North Coast. The waves got a little bigger, and suddenly they’re making us travel through the night to the South Sea Beach. We already get so little rest. After all this hassle, even if danger does come, we won’t have the energy to escape.]
[Su Muyu: Exactly. First, they told everyone to hide on their own in case of danger, and now they want us to follow orders. We’re all players, so why should we listen to you? Sure, Wei Zhan handed out a lot of supplies, but those belong to the nation. He wouldn’t dare distribute them on his own authority. I suspect they’ve teamed up to use us as human shields.
I’m a player from Area 427, and my rank on the resource leaderboard isn’t low. Any other players want to form a team and break away from them with me?]
[Jiang Wei’an: I’m in. I’ve had it with those people from Area One. So what if their rankings are a bit higher? Who knows how they even got them?]
[Turtle-Eating Empress Dowager Chen: Seriously, are you guys idiots? Shi Zhile and Jiang Yuxing have been in the top 3 since the game started. And you’re snidely accusing them of stealing resources? You can’t seriously think they’d be interested in the piddling amount you guys have.
During the desert instance, the pros carried us to an easy victory. I don’t care if you live or die, just don’t piss them off so they stop carrying me.]
[Xue An: To the poster above, are you Shi Zhile’s dog or something? So many players in Area One are sucking up to her, but have you seen her give any of them the time of day? Wang Dacheng had a special system, and he still ended up dead.]
Shi Zhile watched the flame war in the group chat with great interest. By now, quite a few players had been incited and decided to stay on the North Coast.
Initially, to better monitor the sea, the players had been split up among the east, north, and south, as the western cliffs were not suitable for a camp.
The north was led by Wei Zhan, the east by Jiang Jing, and the south by Shi Zhile. They were to maintain daily contact, and if any group discovered abnormalities in the sea, they were to communicate actively and evacuate promptly.
Back then, gripped by the fear of a coming tsunami, every player had readily agreed. But with the tsunami yet to arrive, people had grown restless. It only took a few words to stir up their discontent.
Shi Zhile was enjoying the show when Jiang Yuxing sidled up. "Looks like your kindness was wasted on them. How about you just leave them be? What do their lives have to do with you? Should we enter the space first?"
Shi Zhile looked up, considered it seriously for a moment, and said, "All right. I agree, they don’t know what’s good for them."
A flash of surprise crossed Jiang Yuxing’s eyes. Seeing her tightly gripping Shi Zhiyi’s hand, he quickly took hold of her other arm.
Afraid she might actually leave, he turned his gaze to the sea and fell silent.
To be honest, he couldn’t quite figure out what Shi Zhile was thinking anymore.
’It’s like she wants to save people, but at the same time, she wants to kill them.’
’At first, when she saw people sowing discord, the killing intent in her eyes was undeniable. But now... now she’s watching with relish. The look she gives those players is even colder than the one she gives me.’
The sea surface was still windless. The tide near the shore ebbed and flowed. The water would sometimes recede rapidly, and at other times, it would surge forward and soak their shoes.
The rising and falling tide seemed to be greeting the players on the shore.
After the water receded, another wave surged up, the rising spray directly soaking the cuffs of their pants.
With each wave, the high-water mark crept further up their legs.
