Island Survival: I Build a Moving Castle at Sea
Chapter 206: The Interstellar People’s Provocation
Chapter 206: Chapter 206: The Interstellar People’s Provocation
Fortunately, thanks to the Wish System, players began discovering oil on various islands.
As the weather warmed, green shoots began to sprout. A new wave of crops and vegetable seeds were planted in the ground. Coupled with the constant supply of food from the Planting Space and Breeding Space, the players had essentially become self-sufficient.
Monsters occasionally came ashore in the coastal regions, but they were always hunted down and repelled by the players who had settled in the coastal villages.
Seafood from the coast was sent to the island’s interior, while potatoes and corn grown in the interior were traded to the coastal areas. With the widespread use of oil to generate electricity, about half of the power grid was restored.
Aside from the poor road conditions, the living environment within the game was already halfway to matching that of the real world.
Shi Zhile spent her days staring at the Energy Ball, constantly monitoring its changes. Whenever its color deepened, she would immediately have her system absorb the power and then use that energy to make a wish.
There was still no news of Wen Bai and Sun Ci. Even searching for them with the Energy Ball yielded no trace of their whereabouts.
Life gradually settled into a peaceful rhythm, but the sword hanging over their heads had not vanished.
Another month passed. Thanks to the combination of human effort and the system’s operation, wind and solar power generators spread across the continent. Soon after, various electrical appliances began to appear.
People worked from sunrise to sunset, all struggling to survive.
One afternoon, the high sun was suddenly blotted out by dark clouds, followed immediately by a torrential downpour.
The rain’s arrival solved the drought crisis. But as it fell harder and harder, dark clouds blotted out the sky, leaving not a sliver of light. When it continued nonstop for three consecutive days, the players started to panic.
Inside the secret base, a group of people was gathered in the conference room. Shi Zhile checked the messages on the chat channel.
[Player: Why is it still raining? The wheat seeds I planted just sprouted. If this keeps up, the seedlings are going to be completely flooded.]
[Bai Ri Yi Shan Jin: We had a drought for months without a single drop of rain, so the seeds we planted this year were drought-resistant. If there’s no intervention, this year’s harvest will be a total loss. I heard that Shi Zhile at Huaxia Base has some kind of Wish System and that whatever she wishes for comes true. Someone get her to make a wish!]
[Chu He Ri Dang Wu: For real? @Wei Zhan (Huaxia Base Representative) @Zhou Tian (Huaxia Base Leader) @Wen Changming, all you Huaxia Base players, come out and tell us if this is true!]
[Lambo Bikini: Holy crap! The queen of luck! Everyone knows Master Shi Zhile has been solidly at the top of the resource leaderboard since the game started. Even that fake human Jiang Yuxing, with his hacks and pay-to-win powers, got stomped into the ground. I thought she was just super strong, but I was seriously underestimating her. She’s not just a master, she’s the damn Chosen One, the chosen protagonist of this world! I kneel!]
[Wang Rui’an: HAHAHAHA, our Huaxia has a Chosen One! This servant formally petitions Her Majesty to wish for the extinction of the Japanese.]
[Screw All Exams: This old servant petitions Your Majesty to wish for the extinction of everyone except the Huaxia people and animals. This old servant has never asked for anything in his entire life. I have but this one request. I beseech Your Majesty to grant it. If my wish is granted, this old servant can die without regret.]
[Chu He Ri Dang Wu: The priority right now is getting her to stop the rain! A life with enough food and clothing is too precious to lose. @Contentment Brings Happiness, make the rain stop.]
[Wang Rui’an: Is the poster above me crazy? We have a Chosen One, who gives a crap about this damn rain? You’re not a spy, are you? Guards, drag him out of here!]
...
On a remote rainforest island, more than a dozen players were gathered. They looked at each other, their small eyes filled with confusion.
"Didn’t the Commander say they were easy to turn against each other? How did they end up so united against us?"
"Idiot! Is this the time to worry about that? The Commander finally managed to regain control of the game. We have to drain the Wish System’s energy, no matter what."
"This rain is a game-wide disaster. If she makes a wish to stop it, given the Wish System’s current power reserves, the energy cost is guaranteed to force it into dormancy."
"Keep putting pressure on them. My plan has to work. I refuse to believe that out of tens of millions of players, not a single one will complain. No matter what, we must help the Commander take out the Wish System."
Shi Zhile spent all her time hiding in the secret base, and on the rare occasions she did come out, she carried the game-controlling Energy Ball with her.
Jiang Yuxing’s system was responsible for converting energy. It connected to the Energy Ball and other systems, funneling the converted power into the Energy Ball to keep the game running.
Meanwhile, inside the game, the Wish System was constantly siphoning power from the Energy Ball, giving itself a never-ending supply of energy.
Jiang Yuxing wanted to hack into the Wish System, but Shi Zhile kept the Energy Ball pressed tightly against it, leaving him no opening to attack.
He could cut off the energy being supplied to the game, but the moment he did, the other systems would recover their own power and immediately break free of his control.
Then he’d have to face not only the players in the game but also the other Advanced Systems he had hijacked.
The two bases had more and more players, and development within the game was progressing rapidly.
They were too harmonious. At this rate, give them a few more months and the game world would become just like the world outside.
A united populace, technological advancement—none of it was what he wanted to see.
Another player, a chubby guy with a round face, was gnawing on a chicken leg, his mouth slick with grease. He glanced at the man making the grand speech and managed to say between bites:
"Boss, you might want to look at the chat channel again. By exposing the Wish System, you basically just put Shi Zhile on the throne."
"Before, yeah, a lot of players were cursing out the Commander, but at least some were badmouthing Shi Zhile too. Now that you’ve stuck your nose in it, all tens of millions of them are flaming the Commander. As for Shi Zhile? Half of them are calling her ’Her Majesty’ and the other half are calling her the ’Chosen One.’"
"I honestly can’t tell if you’re trying to help the Commander or actively sabotage him."
Veins bulged on the leader’s forehead. He shot the fat player a look that could have flayed him alive.
"Then what do you think we should do?"
The fatty replied, "What should we do? What else can we do? They’ve probably already figured out we’re here. Are we supposed to wait around to get caught instead of leaving? We just came here to have some fun, but you had to go and stir up trouble. Now we can’t even do that."
With that, he pulled another large chicken leg out of thin air and went back to gnawing on it.
The others scowled in annoyance. "You have a Food System. You’ve been eating for years, aren’t you sick of it yet? We’re at least doing work for the Commander. But you? You’re useless. All you do is eat, eat, eat. You should have been reincarnated as a pig back on Earth."
The fatty was completely unfazed. He handed the clean-picked chicken bone to a small dog in his lap.
"What’s wrong with pigs? They’re cute. Did a pig offend you or something? If you ask me, you’re all worse than pigs. At least you can eat pork. When you guys die, no one can eat your meat. You curse pigs as inferior while stuffing your faces with pork. What does that make you, a bunch of hypocrites?"
"And you have the nerve to say all I do is eat? You bunch of losers have been depending on me for your meals this whole time. Without my Food System, you would’ve starved to death ages ago. Where would you even find the energy to insult me?"
