Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Making a Small Fortune First at Point One
"It is often said that a spectator sees the game more clearly than a player. I can perceive the Cause and Effect of many people, yet I cannot see through my own. It’s like how ordinary people can spot others’ flaws in a single glance, but lack the self-awareness to see their own. Most people in this world are like this. If everyone could clearly recognize themselves, the world would have far less conflict and strife."
"We Novice Monks of the Buddhist Sect travel the mortal world, practicing asceticism, begging for alms with our bowls, and measuring the land with our feet. In saving others, are we not also saving ourselves?"
"So when you ask how many lives I have reincarnated through, you must understand that the cycle of reincarnation is endless. Unless one commits too many sins and falls into the Netherworld, never to be reborn, one will always reincarnate. Just like you, sir. Are you not also within that cycle?"
Just as Chu Fan was about to state his actual question, Hui Ke preempted him and continued speaking.
"I know you wish to ask how many lives I have been reincarnated as a Monk. I have merely awakened a portion of the memories from my previous life. As for the rest, I do not know."
’This Little Monk must have been a real chatterbox in his past life,’ Chu Fan concluded. ’He just took a whole speech to explain something that could have been said in two sentences.’
Chu Fan didn’t want to ask any more questions. He headed directly for the location marked as number one on the map.
When he fell silent, Hui Ke showed some perceptiveness and stopped chattering, quietly following behind him.
Location number one was originally a tall tower, and the item was placed at its base.
The place wasn’t far. Chu Fan flew through the air, arriving in just over a dozen breaths’ time.
Of course, the tower was no longer there. Not a single building in the entire city was still intact.
Because a tall tower had once stood here, even in ruin, the pile of rubble was quite high.
"Give me a hand. Clear all this rubble and move it to the side," Chu Fan said to Hui Ke beside him.
Hui Ke’s brow furrowed slightly, but he didn’t refuse. He simply picked up his wooden staff, leaped into the air, gripped the staff with both hands, and smashed it down on the pile of rubble.
"Holy shit! You little monk, you could’ve given a warning!"
Chu Fan was startled by the sudden, powerful display and quickly dodged aside to avoid being hit by flying debris.
That strike was incredibly powerful, not in the least bit weaker than the First Technique of Chu Fan’s Walking Dragon Sword Shadow executed at full strength.
The pile of rubble, which had been nearly ten feet high, was completely flattened by his single strike.
Even though Chu Fan knew Hui Ke was only this strong because he had awakened memories and a portion of his Cultivation from a past life, the sight of a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy delivering such a world-shaking blow was still incredibly shocking.
’If I fought him without using my trump cards,’ Chu Fan couldn’t help but wonder, ’what would my chances of winning be?’
With the rubble cleared by Hui Ke’s staff, Chu Fan walked over and searched the area where the tower had originally stood. The ground was paved with tightly fitted stone blocks.
Chu Fan didn’t feel like racking his brains over it. He simply drew his Juntian Sword and struck the ground.
After a loud BANG, the Long Sword left a trench in the ground sixty-six feet long, two feet wide, and five feet deep.
But the bottom of the trench was still solid stone.
Chu Fan decided to break through with brute force. He gripped his Sword and swung it again and again. Endless Sword Qi tore into the once-flat ground, leaving it a mess of overlapping pits and trenches.
Finally, on his eleventh strike, a black void appeared at the intersection of several trenches.
Without a second thought, Chu Fan leaped in, and Hui Ke followed him down.
The space below wasn’t very large—smaller, in fact, than the space inside Chu Fan’s Storage Ring. It was about ten feet in length, width, and height.
There wasn’t much inside: a dozen or so celadon jars, similar in size to large wine jugs, were stacked together, and over a dozen pieces of Ming Jue Jade sat on a small stone pedestal.
Besides those, there was a palm-sized, emerald-green piece of Jade with a liquid flowing inside it.
’Could that be Jade Marrow?’ Chu Fan grew instantly excited upon seeing the Jade stone.
Chu Fan picked up the Jade stone. A cool sensation rushed into his mind before slowly turning into a gentle warmth. Moreover, the Spiritual Qi contained within this Jade was at least thousands, if not tens of thousands, of times denser than that of an ordinary Spirit Stone.
’A dozen-plus pieces of Ming Jue Jade... doesn’t that mean a dozen-plus Cultivation Techniques or Martial Techniques?’
As for what was in the dozen or so jars, Chu Fan walked over and found a piece of parchment lying on top of them.
"This is the Drunken Immortal Brew, made by the Spirit Wine Immortal. Only thirteen jars remain in this world. A single bowl can get an Immortal drunk for three days; a single bowl can get a mortal drunk for three years. Not only is this wine exquisite in flavor, but it also has the effect of Purification of Essence and Marrow and can aid in achieving enlightenment of the Great Dao. Its true flavor can only be known by tasting."
Chu Fan was instantly thrilled. This was all incredible stuff!
As for the Cultivation Techniques and Martial Techniques recorded in the dozen or so pieces of Ming Jue Jade, it went without saying that they must be extraordinary legacies. After all, this place once belonged to the Divine Realm!
"We agreed this is all mine," Chu Fan said to Hui Ke.
"Sir, could you spare this Novice Monk a jar of the Drunken Immortal Brew?"
"Aren’t you Buddhist Sect members supposed to follow strict rules? Abstain from alcohol, lust, and meat?" Chu Fan said.
"You are mistaken, sir. The reason Buddhist disciples have so many strict rules is simply to curb the growth of desire. Since entering the monastic path, I have long since become open-minded and am no longer moved by such desires. For me, of the three you mentioned, I only need to abstain from lust."
’Whatever. There are thirteen jars, so giving him one is fine.’
’Good thing he didn’t ask for the Ming Jue Jade or the Jade Marrow.’
"Fine, you can have a jar."
"Thank you for your charity, sir. However, I do not have any storage items. Please take it for now, and you can give it to me after we leave this Secret Realm."
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll go back on my word?"
"Sir, you are a man of great destiny. You would surely not break your promise to someone over such a trivial worldly possession. How could I not trust you?"
"Alright, fine. I’ll hold onto it for you."
Chu Fan tossed the Ming Jue Jade, the wine jars, and the Jade Marrow into his Jun Tianjian World all at once, then hurried toward the second location marked on the map.
’As for what’s recorded on the Ming Jue Jade, I’ll check it all out after I leave the Secret Realm.’
After all, he had already been in the Secret Realm for half a month. He sorely missed Yun Xi after being away for so long. Besides, every extra day he was gone was another day she would worry about him.
Once outside, Chu Fan headed directly for the location marked as number two.
This place wasn’t far from point one, only about a kilometer away. According to the map, it was supposed to be a rockery made of oddly shaped stones.
There was a passage inside the rockery, and at the end of the passage was a mechanism. Solving the mechanism would grant access to a secret chamber.
However, Chu Fan didn’t have high hopes for location number two. Although it was well hidden, it was unlikely to have escaped the notice of the "people" who had destroyed this place.
But since it wasn’t far, he decided to check it out anyway. ’What if it’s still there?’
Before the two of them even arrived, Chu Fan sensed a group of people rapidly approaching their location.
Furthermore, based on their auras, they were all strangers.
Before Chu Fan could say anything, Hui Ke looked in the direction of the approaching group and muttered, "Old acquaintances have arrived. It seems this Novice Monk will have to go on a killing spree today."
’Is this Little Monk even a Buddhist disciple anymore?’ Chu Fan wondered, confused.
’How can he talk about going on a killing spree so calmly?’
’Doesn’t the Buddhist Sect forbid killing?’
