Fixing his eyes on the light, he began to float upward. As his arms made their first stroke, he felt them bump into something.

He turned and saw that it was a person. A closer look revealed it to be Yan Ying.

At this moment, Yan Ying was still unconscious.

He remembered how back in the space with the twelve stone statues, if it hadn’t been for Yan Ying, he and Master Ni would likely have been trapped there until they died. He decided to bring "him" along to the surface.

He wrapped an arm around Yan Ying’s body, but his hand touched a certain spot. Something felt off, so he gave it a squeeze to test the feel.

"Holy shit!"

He cried out in shock, and a large mouthful of water rushed into his mouth.

He stared at Yan Ying, dumbfounded.

"I’m going to kill you!" Yan Ying gritted her teeth, her eyes filled with murderous rage. An unsheathed Long Sword materialized in her hand, and she charged at Chu Fan.

Already injured from her palm strike, Chu Fan hastily dodged her attacks. "Why are you so unreasonable?" he shouted. "I saw you were unconscious and was just trying to help, to bring you up from the bottom of the water! How was I supposed to know you were a woman?"

"You dare say more? If I don’t kill you today, I don’t deserve to live!"

Yan Ying hacked at him, one Sword strike after another, as if she wouldn’t stop until she had chopped Chu Fan into a million pieces.

She seemed to pour all her strength into every single strike.

Sword Qi filled the air.

Left with no choice, Chu Fan had to draw his own Sword to block.

As Yan Ying continued her relentless assault, refusing to show any mercy, Chu Fan’s own anger began to flare.

’Dammit, it’s not like I did it on purpose!’ he fumed internally. ’Who told you to dress up like a man anyway, you crazy woman?’

But he only grumbled this in his head and didn’t actually say it out loud.

"If you keep this up, I’m going to get serious!" Chu Fan warned, suppressing the rage in his chest.

Who knew that his warning would only serve to make her even more furious.

Just as Chu Fan was about to switch from defense to offense, a beast’s roar echoed from nearby.

Only then did they realize that they had, at some point, been surrounded by a pack of beasts.

A circle of glowing red eyes stared back at them from the dark, hulking shadows.

Each beast stood seven or eight feet tall.
