Chapter 49: Chapter 49: A Scroll Reappears From the Divine Statue

"I got..." Yan Ying started to say, but then caught herself. She glared at Chu Fan and said, "Why should I tell you?"

"What did you get, then?"

Chu Fan couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ’Why should *you* have to tell *me*? So now why should *I* tell *you*?’

’Women’s logic is truly impossible to figure out.’

Still, he decided to answer, though not entirely truthfully. "It was those two Sword Techniques I used earlier."

"You mean that Sword Technique where the Sword Qi condenses into the shape of a snake?"

"That’s the one!"

"Actually, what I got was also a Sword Manual," Yan Ying said.

"I wonder what Master Ni got," Chu Fan said. Then he added, "Why were we both teleported to the Water Pool, but he was nowhere to be found?"

"My master told me that after receiving an inheritance in the Divine Hall, the location you’re teleported to isn’t fixed."

"So, your master has been to the Divine Hall before? No, wait, you said the passage to the Divine Hall only appears once every three thousand years. It’s impossible for your master to have gone."

After a brief back-and-forth, Chu Fan confirmed his suspicions. People from the Celestial Dao Palace had indeed come to the Divine Hall before—three times, in fact.

Yan Ying was the fourth disciple from the Celestial Dao Palace to arrive here.

As they talked, he realized she was the type to be cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Her public arrogance was backed by genuine substance.

After all, she was the Direct Disciple of the Celestial Dao Palace’s Palace Master, and the Celestial Dao Palace was one of the top Sects on the continent.

This was the Eastern Domain, after all. If they were in the Central Domain, in the Hua Xu Empire, probably every single Cultivator would have to show respect to the Direct Disciple of the Celestial Dao Palace’s Palace Master, right?

He wasn’t sure if it was her age or just her personality, but her temper flared up inexplicably at times, though it seemed to fade just as quickly.

As for whether she held grudges, they hadn’t known each other long enough for Chu Fan to find out.

Leaving the cave, they surveyed the mountain range and confirmed that their cave was indeed on one of the thirteen peaks of Zao Ying Mountain.

Hundreds of people had gathered below the Divine Statue of Ascendant Xingfeng.

The dozens of people who had been knocked unconscious by the Snake Qi in the Giant Python Cave with Chu Fan had also returned to the area below the Divine Statue.

The nine women traveling with Yan Ying were among them.

They were thrilled to see Yan Ying appear, but the moment they saw Chu Fan beside her, the looks in their nine pairs of eyes were sharp enough to skin him alive.

He scanned the crowd of several hundred people but saw no sign of Master Ni.

Yan Ying was surrounded by the nine women. Chu Fan, however, didn’t head back toward the Divine Statue. Instead, he started walking toward the other end of the valley, intending to leave.

Before he could even exit the valley, Yan Ying hurried after him, alone.

"Aren’t you going back to the Central Domain?" Chu Fan asked.

"In the cave, I overheard you and Master Ni talking. You said your childhood sweetheart is going to marry some Saint Heir from the Celestial Derivation Sect. You’re going to crash the wedding, aren’t you?"

Hearing this, Chu Fan shot her an annoyed glare and said coldly, "Woman, I suggest you mind your own business."

"I have no intention of minding your business. I’ve only ever heard stories about dramatic scenes like crashing a wedding; I’ve never seen one. So I want to tag along and watch." Yan Ying saw nothing odd about her words, nor did she consider Chu Fan’s feelings on the matter.

’I’m starting to understand this woman,’ Chu Fan thought with a helpless shake of his head. He repeated coldly, "Don’t follow me."

"I’m just curious what kind of otherworldly beauty the so-called ’number one belle of the Eastern Domain Cultivation Realm’ must be. But I’m even more curious how a Golden Core Realm Cultivator like you plans to crash a Sect’s wedding."

Who knew this woman would stick to him like a leech, following him relentlessly.

"If you follow me, what about your companions?"

"They’ll return to the Central Domain on their own. I’ve already given them instructions."

"I’m begging you, please don’t follow me. Besides, what does it look like for a woman like you to be following a guy like me around?"

The moment the words left his mouth, Yan Ying’s expression changed. She said angrily, "Chu Fan, don’t you forget the promise you made me by the Water Pool!"

Chu Fan immediately leaped into the air, trying to escape at top speed.

Who knew that this woman’s Lightweight Body Technique was even faster than his.

"I’ve decided I’m going to watch this show. Let me tell you, if you try to shake me off, I guarantee you’ll be hunted by the Hua Xu Empire’s Royal Family within half a month."

BOOM!

Suddenly, the ground trembled. Both of them couldn’t help but look toward the source of the tremendous noise, only to see the Divine Statue of Ascendant Xingfeng in the valley suddenly collapse.

"What’s happening?" Not knowing the cause, Chu Fan turned and flew toward the Divine Statue.

From his high vantage point, he watched as the statue, dozens of yards tall, crumbled and fell to pieces.

And from its very center, a golden light shot out.

"What’s that?"

Using his Spiritual Power, Chu Fan saw that the golden light enveloped a Scroll.

’A Scroll? Could it be like the one Ye Xiaohan carried, one that can enhance Spiritual Power?’ With this thought, he naturally sped up, determined to grab the Scroll.

At that moment, the Cultivators who were still near the Divine Statue all leaped into the air, wanting to fight for it.

After all, they had come to Zao Ying Mountain to search for treasure.

They had found nothing so far and were just about to leave. Now that the Divine Statue had suddenly shattered and a Scroll had flown out of it, who wouldn’t want to get their hands on it to see if it was a treasure?

In mid-air, nearly a hundred people were tangled in a chaotic melee.

Whoever touched the Scroll first would be immediately swarmed by everyone else.

Seeing such a chaotic battle, Chu Fan flew halfway there and then stopped in mid-air.

When Chu Fan stopped so abruptly, Yan Ying almost failed to react in time and nearly crashed into his back.

"Why’d you stop?"

"What’s the rush? I’ll just wait for them to finish fighting before I make my move."

"You’re so cunning!"

Chu Fan ignored her, his eyes fixed on the Scroll.

Over on the other side, the fight was indeed a free-for-all at first. But after a while, it devolved into a battle between Sects. Naturally, the smaller and weaker Sects were at a disadvantage.

Because of this, the pace of the battle quickened considerably.

Watching from beside Chu Fan, Yan Ying commented with a distinct lack of interest, "Watching you Eastern Domain Cultivators fight is so boring. They’ve been at it for ages and no one’s even died yet. How long is this going to take?"

Only then did Chu Fan notice that aside from some low-level Cultivators on the ground, the nine women from her Celestial Dao Palace hadn’t moved either.

"Are you going to go for it or not? If you don’t, I’ll have my people go get it," Yan Ying said.

"Are you really going to let me have it?" Although Chu Fan asked this, warning bells were already going off in his mind.

Chu Fan wasn’t afraid of Yan Ying alone, but what if it was ten against one?

’Don’t forget, I still have the Jade Pendant that Yan Ying wants.’

"What’s with that look? Do you think I’m the kind of person who bullies the weak, takes advantage of others’ misfortune, or goes back on their word?"

Chu Fan couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ’Self-awareness is a wonderful thing, but this woman has none of it.’

’You didn’t even bat an eye when you killed those people from the Red Blood Mansion.’

Just as Yan Ying was speaking, a disciple from the Mixed Element Sect managed to grab the Scroll. He shouted, "Everyone, stop fighting! This won’t solve anything. There’s only one item, why don’t we discuss how to decide who it belongs to!"

After his shout, the fighting actually stopped.

"This Scroll might be very important to me too. Will you help me or not?" Chu Fan asked Yan Ying tentatively.

Yan Ying rolled her eyes and said, "The Jade Pendant is important to you, and now this Scroll is important to you too. Chu Fan, when did you get to be so shameless?"

"Ten Masterwork Upper Grade Treasure Swords," Chu Fan said.

Yan Ying shook her head.

"Plus the Sword Manual I got in the Divine Hall."

"Deal!"
