Chapter 50: A Battle of Strength for the Scroll
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: A Battle of Strength for the Scroll
By the rubble of the collapsed Divine Statue, hundreds of people were gathered. A representative from each Sect—fourteen people in total—had formed a small circle off to one side, discussing how to decide the ownership of the Scroll.
Chu Fan walked straight over.
"No need to discuss it. This Scroll is mine," Chu Fan said.
All but one of the fourteen people stared at him as if he were an idiot.
The only one who wasn’t looking at Chu Fan like he was an idiot was one of the people who had previously seen him battle the giant python in the Giant Python Cave.
The others had never seen Chu Fan display his strength, so they assumed he was just an ordinary person.
The disciple from the Mixed Element Sect looked at Chu Fan with disgust and said, "Kid, if you’ve got nothing better to do, go play somewhere else. Any one of us here could crush you with ease. Believe it?"
Chu Fan paid the contempt no mind. "How about this," he said. "You pick three people to fight me one-on-one. If even one of them beats me, I’ll leave immediately, and you can go back to discussing who gets the Scroll. But if I’m lucky enough to win all three matches, the Scroll is mine. How about it?"
A disciple from the Celestial Derivation Sect snapped angrily, "Who the hell do you think you are? I could slap you to death with one hand, believe it or not."
The words had barely left his mouth before Chu Fan’s hand was already wrapped around his neck.
The man’s face immediately turned purple. He clawed at Chu Fan’s arm, making whimpering sounds.
"Stop!" The others all shot to their feet.
"My proposal. What’s your decision?" Chu Fan asked.
"This..." The group exchanged glances, but no one answered.
Chu Fan tightened his right hand, sending out a burst of True Qi. The Celestial Derivation Sect disciple died on the spot.
In truth, that man was also a Golden Core Realm Cultivator.
None of them could have imagined he would be choked to death just like that.
Only then did it dawn on them: the person before them had been playing the pig to eat the tiger all along.
The disciple from the Mixed Element Sect asked, "Who exactly are you? And do you have any idea who it is you’ve just killed?"
"Just a disciple from the Celestial Derivation Sect. Nothing I’d lose sleep over. I gave you a chance and you didn’t take it. Now there’s nothing left to say."
After speaking, Chu Fan casually tossed the corpse aside, then lunged forward to snatch the Scroll from the hands of the Mixed Element Sect disciple.
The dozen or so others drew their swords in unison.
As Chu Fan charged toward the Mixed Element Sect disciple, he also produced a Sword, immediately unleashing the First Technique of the Python Shadow Four Techniques.
The Sword Aura formed a giant python shadow that lunged toward the Mixed Element Sect disciple as if to devour him.
The Mixed Element Sect disciple retreated a step and executed a Sword Technique of his own. At the same time, the others all launched their attacks at Chu Fan.
His first move having failed to gain the upper hand, Chu Fan unleashed a new one—the Second Technique of the Python Shadow Four Techniques.
The python shadow slithered in a circle, forcing all thirteen of them to retreat.
Just then, Yan Ying and the nine women with her arrived on the scene, ready to kill.
Now that he had backup, Chu Fan focused solely on attacking the disciple from the Mixed Element Sect.
"Yet the Nightmare is as Urgent as Starfire!"
This technique, performed at the Pill Formation Realm, was several times more powerful than when he had been in the Lotus Formation Realm.
Back in the Lotus Formation Realm, executing this technique would, at most, leave behind twenty or thirty sparks of Sword Gang.
But now, with a single slash, he left nearly a hundred of them around the Mixed Element Sect disciple, and each spark was several times larger than before.
These sparks of Sword Gang completely blocked off the disciple’s every path of retreat.
The disciple didn’t understand the danger of the sparks, so he paid them no mind.
It wasn’t until he ran into them that he realized his mistake. Six of the sparks left six flower-shaped wounds on his body, each one so deep the bone was visible.
While the man was still reeling in astonishment from being so suddenly and strangely wounded, Chu Fan zipped in, snatched the Scroll from his robes, and tossed it directly into his ring.
Screams of agony echoed around him.
The women from the Celestial Dao Palace were truly ruthless, killing without even blinking. They struck without restraint, and in the time it took for a few dozen breaths, they had already killed four people.
The hundreds of people gathered not far away saw the state of the battle and hurried to surround them.
After all, these fourteen were the representatives of those Sects.
Seeing the hundreds of people closing in, and with the Scroll now in his possession, Chu Fan shouted, "Everyone, stop!"
"There is only one Scroll, and it goes to the strongest. If you really want to keep fighting, maybe we’ll lose. But before we fall, at least half of you here will die. And even then, there’s no guarantee the Scroll will end up with you. Besides, you don’t even know what this Scroll does. What if it’s useless?"
Hearing Chu Fan’s words, many people fell silent.
"You killed our Senior Brother Liu! We will avenge Senior Brother Liu!" a few disciples from the Celestial Derivation Sect clamored.
"That’s right! And you killed our Senior Brother Qi!"
Dozens of people on the outskirts began to shout in agreement.
"Revenge?" Chu Fan let out a cold laugh. He walked toward the group of Celestial Derivation Sect disciples who had started the shouting, leveled his Long Sword, and said, "I’ll give you your chance. Will you attack all at once? Or send a representative?"
Another group looked eager to join in, but Yan Ying gave a wave of her hand. The woman in yellow and the other eight women in white all stood behind Chu Fan, their backs turned to him as they faced the crowd.
The signal was clear: they were all on the same side as Chu Fan.
How could the disciples from the Celestial Derivation Sect endure such a provocation? They all attacked Chu Fan at once.
The Second Technique of the Python Shadow Four Techniques. As his Long Sword danced, Chu Fan’s body shot forward. His Sword Qi coalesced into a massive python shadow and crashed into their ranks.
With a single move, the first four or five people fell into pools of their own blood, and the dozen or so behind them were all wounded.
"Do you want to continue?" Chu Fan asked, withdrawing his technique and looking at them.
The remaining dozen or so disciples from the Celestial Derivation Sect trembled, not daring to step forward.
"Let’s go!"
Seeing that none of them dared to move, Chu Fan said the word to Yan Ying, tossed his Long Sword into the air, and leaped up to land on it.
Yan Ying and the women from the Celestial Dao Palace followed close behind.
Not a single person dared to give chase, even after their figures had vanished from sight.
After they left, the crowd erupted in a torrent of curses.
The curses were vile. Not knowing Chu Fan’s identity, they directed their anger at the Celestial Dao Palace.
But after killing so many, did Chu Fan or Yan Ying really care if these people cursed them behind their backs?
After their party had flown out of Zao Ying Mountain, the woman in yellow and the eight women in white all departed, though very reluctantly.
Before they left, they even shot Chu Fan a fierce glare.
This left Chu Fan feeling rather baffled.
’It’s not like I’m the one making your master follow me,’ he thought. ’I wish she’d get lost already!’
Once the nine women had left, Yan Ying held her hand out to Chu Fan.
With a wave of his hand, Chu Fan made ten Top Class Masterwork Treasure Swords appear in the air.
Yan Ying didn’t bother checking the quality of the Swords; with a wave of her hand, she put them away.
"So you really do have a Storage Ring. It seems your background isn’t so simple after all," Yan Ying said.
"You have one too, don’t you?" Chu Fan retorted.
Yan Ying held out her hand again. "The rest."
"There are only four Sword Techniques in total. I remember the forms, but I’ve only grasped the Sword Intent for the first two. There’s no Sword Manual. I’ll teach them to you when I have time."
"Fine. In any case, there’s still over a month until the eighth day of the twelfth month."
"You really plan on following me?" Chu Fan asked.
"Of course. A good show like a wedding crashing is a rare treat. Besides, I rarely get a chance to leave the Central Domain. Why would I miss out on all the excitement?" Yan Ying said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"But I’m not even confident I’ll make it out of there alive..."
Yan Ying cut him off. "I won’t help you. At the same time, you don’t need to worry about my safety. In the Eastern Domain, no one would dare lay a hand on me."
