Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Connected to the Red Blood Mansion Again
Nanling County was one of the southernmost county cities. It was the second month, and spring was in the air. A fine, dense drizzle fell, leaving a sticky, damp chill on anyone it touched.
Chu Fan found the feeling unpleasant, so after leaving the auction house with Yun Xi, he used his True Qi to shield his entire body, preventing even a single drop of rain from touching him.
The moment they stepped out of the auction house, Chu Fan felt many pairs of eyes fixed intently on them.
At first, he simply assumed they were staring because of Yun Xi’s beauty, as usual. But after walking for a while, he realized that several people were actively tailing them.
Although their pursuit was covert, it couldn’t escape Chu Fan’s notice.
His Level 22 Spiritual Power not only extended his conscious awareness to a range of eight li but also gave him a photographic memory. Even a quick scan of the street imprinted everything he saw, down to the smallest detail, into his mind.
Even after they left the city, a few men disguised as traveling merchants continued to follow them.
As they passed a wayside pavilion ten li out, they saw an elegantly dressed, scholarly old man sitting inside, drinking wine.
As Chu Fan and Yun Xi passed, the old man spoke.
"Young man, have you ever considered the consequences of acting so brazenly in the Jianghu?"
Chu Fan stopped in his tracks. He looked at the old man with some surprise and asked, "Are you talking to me?"
"A few days ago in the city tavern, you acted with such a vicious hand. Who else would this old man be talking to?"
Nascent Soul Realm.
’No wonder he’s so fearless, just sitting here leisurely drinking tea while waiting for us.’
’Quite the poser, isn’t he?’
Chu Fan looked down and asked Yun Xi, "What do you think? Should we keep going, or should we rest in the pavilion for a bit?"
Hearing Chu Fan’s question, Yun Xi knew he was confident in handling the situation. She said, "Since this senior is so insistent, and the rain seems to be getting heavier, why don’t we go in and sit for a while?"
"How audacious!" the old man exclaimed, stroking his beard in mock praise.
Walking into the pavilion, Chu Fan sat directly across from the old man, picked up the teapot, and took a large gulp straight from the spout without a second thought.
Yun Xi stood just behind Chu Fan.
The old man’s gaze kept drifting to Yun Xi’s face, his eyes growing brighter.
"Chaixian Sect?" Chu Fan asked.
"Since you know of my Chaixian Sect, you still dared to enter?" The old man’s gaze sharpened as he stared at Chu Fan.
"I heard your Chaixian Sect plans to crush the Lingyun Sect and take its place as one of the Six Sects?" Chu Fan asked again.
"Brat, I’ve never in my life seen arrogance like yours."
"I may be a bit arrogant, but at least I’m not delusional. It seems everyone from your Chaixian Sect enjoys spouting that kind of nonsense."
Chu Fan glanced at the sky and continued, "On a rainy day like this, many people are still in bed, sleeping in. But any dream you have now is still a daydream. Wouldn’t you agree, senior?"
"Young man, I heard you have some skill. Does that make you think you can look down on everyone?" The old man had lost his earlier composure, his anger clearly stoked by Chu Fan.
But Chu Fan simply maintained his smile. "Senior, you’ve misunderstood. Even if I had no skill at all, I still wouldn’t give your Chaixian Sect a second thought."
"You..." The old man slammed his palm on the stone table.
The force of his blow should have been enough to pulverize the stone table, but it remained completely unscathed.
The old man’s expression shifted again, a flicker of doubt and astonishment in his eyes.
He had intended to intimidate Chu Fan with that palm strike, but who would have thought that Chu Fan had merely rested a hand lightly on the table, making it as immovable as a mountain.
The old man sat back down, a cold smile on his face. "It seems this old man has underestimated you."
"Isn’t being arrogant and looking down on everyone the trademark style of your Chaixian Sect?" Chu Fan shot back.
The old man’s face had turned ashen with rage.
Chu Fan continued, "And let’s not forget bullying the weak while fearing the strong. You’re waiting for people, aren’t you? It’s fine. I can wait with you."
"Who exactly are you?" the old man asked, his voice filled with shock and suspicion.
Chu Fan used the kettle from the charcoal stove to refill the teapot with hot water. He then leisurely took another sip from the spout, set the pot down, and finally said, "I was originally just a passerby, planning to leave Nanling County as soon as my business was done. I had no intention of interfering with sanctimonious beasts like you committing sins in the mortal world."
"But you just had to provoke me. After I gave you a light punishment for that provocation, the matter should have been over. I didn’t expect you to be waiting here to ambush me for revenge. With the Six Sects and Eight Gates too busy to mind other affairs, it seems all you monsters and demons have decided to crawl out of the woodwork."
As he spoke, Chu Fan pointed in several different directions.
"Since you’re already here, why not come out for a cup of tea to quench your thirst? It must have been so difficult for you, having to get out of bed so early in the morning just for me."
The moment he finished speaking, five figures emerged from the directions he had pointed to.
Three were in the Golden Core Realm Late Stage, one in the Nascent Soul Realm Early Stage, and one in the Nascent Soul Realm Middle Stage.
"Brat, state your identity and leave the woman. We’ll let you go," the old man at the Nascent Soul Realm Middle Stage said as he stepped forward, glaring as if he could intimidate Chu Fan.
Chu Fan jutted his chin toward the old man still seated in the pavilion. "I insulted him every way I could just now. Do you know why he didn’t dare to make a move?"
"Elder Chen, what’s going on?" the Nascent Soul Realm Middle Stage expert asked the old man in the pavilion.
"Don’t listen to this brat’s arrogant nonsense! His audacity is truly something I’ve never seen in my life! Everyone, attack him together!" With his allies present, Elder Chen’s bravado returned.
"Hold on," Chu Fan said, waving his hand. "With so many of you, it’s not like I can escape anyway. Why don’t you tell me which Sects you all represent?"
"I am the Left Envoy of the Luoyang Valley Guards! These two are Elders from the Bi Yun Sect, this is the Pavilion Master of Hanxuan Pavilion, and this is the Third Elder of the Spirit Star Sect!"
Chu Fan stood up. Unexpectedly, this simple movement caused all of them to take a step back in unison.
Chu Fan smiled. "I didn’t know much about the Chaixian Sect before. But now that I’ve heard the names of your Sects, I finally understand. You’re all just lapdogs for the Red Blood Mansion. That makes things easier. I’ll have no psychological burden killing you now."
With a wave of his hand, the rust-spotted Juntian Sword appeared in his grasp.
"Those two at the Golden Core Realm Late Stage will be good practice for you. The first two techniques of the Yifeng Sword Technique should be more than enough to handle them," Chu Fan said to Yun Xi, completely ignoring the others.
"Okay!" Yun Xi replied with a single word, drawing a Celestial Tier, Middle Class Long Sword—a recent gift from Chu Fan—from her ring.
Their every word and action made the old men howl with fury.
When had they ever been treated with such contempt?
The five men drew their weapons. The many ganging up on the few? The old preying on the young? As far as they were concerned, who had time for such rules?
The instant the seven of them clashed, the stone pavilion shattered. The octagonal roof was blasted straight into the sky by the force of their True Qi.
With the First Technique of his Yifeng Sword Technique, Chu Fan swept up the four men and carried them soaring into the sky.
The two Golden Core Realm cultivators naturally didn’t pursue Chu Fan. Instead, looking completely confident, they launched their attack on Yun Xi.
Yun Xi also executed the Yifeng Sword Technique—its First Technique, Strumming Sword and Singing, Riding Horses and Testing Swords.
There was no trace of Sword Qi surrounding her, not a hint of the pressure of Sword Gang, not even an inch of Sword Aura. In the fine drizzle, Yun Xi’s sword moved like a butterfly flitting through flowers, making the two Golden Core Realm cultivators feel no threat whatsoever.
High in the sky, the four old men facing Chu Fan felt the same way. In fact, they were utterly stunned...
