Kicked Out, Flash-Married, and Now He Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 266: Everyone Panicked
An hour later.
At Concordia Hospital, Julian Faulkner stayed by Vivian Lowell’s side. Next to them, Grandma Faulkner and Ms. Shaw waited anxiously, while Vance Wyatt was busy running around handling matters.
Eleanor Rhodes was also there; Julian had called her over.
Vivian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the grand turnout. Seeing Eleanor looking like she hadn’t fully woken up yet, she could only blink apologetically at her.
Eleanor didn’t mind at all. She smiled and said to Vivian, “It’s fine! Your pregnancy is such a huge deal; I absolutely should be here with you.
“Vivian, this is so wonderful! We have a deal: when your baby is born, I’m going to be the godmother! Hmm… what should I buy for my unborn godson?”
Vivian laughed the moment she heard this. She playfully scolded, “Listen to you, it’s way too early for that! Calling him your godson already—I actually prefer a daughter.
“Daughters are soft and delicate, so cute. Julian, don’t you agree?”
“Mhm,” Julian answered somewhat absentmindedly. After a moment, he hurriedly asked, “Vivian, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”
Vivian shook her head. Just as they were about to speak, a nurse walked out of the examination room.
“Which of you are Vivian Lowell’s family members?”
At the nurse’s question, Grandma Faulkner immediately went over. “I am, I am! How is our Vivian doing? Is the baby okay?”
“She is doing very well, ma’am. Please don’t worry.”
The nurse briefly explained Vivian’s condition. It was likely that she had been too busy and exhausted over the past few days, which triggered the morning sickness. However, Vivian had a strong constitution and excellent immunity. The baby was still very small, so Vivian simply needed to prioritize getting plenty of rest and eating a nutritious diet. She only needed to return to the hospital if her pregnancy symptoms became too severe later on.
“Remember to come in for your regular check-ups,” the nurse added. She informed them that Vivian’s medical file had already been set up and wrote a few upcoming dates on an appointment card.
Vivian tucked the card away safely and thanked the nurse.
“Oh, Vivian, this is wonderful!” Grandma Faulkner was so happy she was on the verge of tears. She wanted to touch Vivian’s belly but remembered that she shouldn’t do so so casually when the baby was still this small, so she held herself back.
“Let’s go, let’s head home!” After saying this with a hearty chuckle, she turned to Ms. Shaw. “Shaw, you must be extra careful with Vivian’s meals from now on! Make sure to cook plenty of nutritious food for her!”
“Right away, Old Mrs. Faulkner. I will remember,” Ms. Shaw replied, equally delighted. A touch of maternal affection filled her eyes.
Speaking of which, back when Mrs. Faulkner was pregnant—when Julian’s mother was expecting him—it was Ms. Shaw who had taken care of her. Ms. Shaw had experience with these matters. Even though so many years had passed, she just needed to read a few more books to refresh her memory. She would definitely give it her utmost effort.
Half an hour later, the group returned to the Faulkner home.
Eleanor had returned with them as well. She accompanied Ms. Shaw in the kitchen, picking through ingredients and insisting they bring out all the nourishing supplements for Vivian to eat. Vivian couldn’t stop them no matter how hard she tried.
There was no way she could possibly finish that much food!
Julian stayed right by Vivian’s side. Watching from the sidelines, Vance looked like he wanted to say something several times but forcefully held his tongue. Fortunately, Vivian noticed Vance’s odd expression and took the initiative to ask, “Vance, what’s wrong? Is there something you need to say?”
“It’s like this… President Faulkner, you have a meeting this afternoon and need to take the high-speed rail to get there. If we don’t leave now, we’ll be late. This meeting is actually quite important.
“Should I drive you there now?”
Vance spoke cautiously. After finishing his sentence, he even lowered his head, afraid that Julian would scold him.
Sure enough, Julian was somewhat displeased. He shot Vance a cold glare and retorted, “What meeting? If I can skip it, cancel it. Vivian is…”
“It’s fine.” Vivian waved her hand, interrupting him. She said gently, “I’m alright, you should go. I feel perfectly fine. Work is important, so you don’t need to stay home just to keep me company.
“Besides, I don’t have anything to do at home anyway. It would be so boring for you to just sit here with me.”
“It wouldn’t be boring,” Julian countered immediately. Then, he asked helplessly, “Are you truly okay?”
“I’m really okay.” Vivian nodded emphatically.
Seeing this, Julian had no choice but to turn to Vance. “Alright, go arrange the car. We’ll head out soon.”
After saying that, he turned back to Vivian. “This meeting won’t finish until tonight. Once it’s over, I’ll rush back, but it might be a bit late.
“If you get sleepy, don’t wait up for me. Remember to take good care of yourself, and if anything happens, contact me immediately.”
“Okay, go on. Is there anything you need to pack?” Vivian asked.
Julian thought for a moment and replied, “No. I’ll get going, then.”
“Alright.”
Vivian agreed. Julian lingered, taking a few more long looks at her as if he couldn’t bear to part with her, before finally resigning himself to leaving.
Vance had been shadowing Julian the whole time. When he heard him say he would rush back tonight, he couldn’t help but grumble inwardly. The meeting would wrap up around eight o’clock, but by that time, they would likely miss the last high-speed train. If they drove, it would take at least three or four hours to get back. It would be midnight by the time they arrived.
President Faulkner was truly willing to bend over backward for his wife!
After Julian left, the house quieted down significantly. Just as Vivian was about to pull out her laptop to catch up on some company work, Eleanor burst in from outside.
“Vivian, time for some snow pear bird’s nest soup with rock sugar!” Eleanor brought over the dessert Ms. Shaw had stewed and said, “Pregnant women are supposed to eat this! If you eat plenty of bird’s nest, the baby will be born with perfect skin, and it’s great for your complexion, too!”
“…”
Vivian wasn’t even hungry yet, but since Eleanor insisted, she had no choice but to accept it. Fortunately, as long as rock sugar was added to a bird’s nest, the taste would never be bad. Besides, Ms. Shaw’s culinary skills had always been excellent, and Vivian loved eating her cooking.
After finishing the dessert, Vivian wanted to work, but Eleanor came over to stop her.
“Oh my gosh, working again! Did you forget what the nurse said? She told you to get plenty of rest! You’re still in the early stages of pregnancy, so you shouldn’t even be having morning sickness yet—it’s only happening because you’re exhausted!
“Just rest properly. Why don’t we find a movie to watch?”
“I’m not tired right now,” Vivian muttered softly, but seeing Eleanor’s persistence, she knew it was a lost cause.
Thankfully, after working overtime yesterday, she had already finished most of her tasks. Right now, she just wanted to check her inbox for any new messages. Watching a movie wouldn’t be a bad idea. She could just wait until tonight when Eleanor went home. Once the house was empty, she could catch up on work.
She knew her own body best, and she wouldn’t push herself past her limits.
