Chapter 596: Chapter 395: Refusal

After they had rested, Feng Shan and Nash planned to take Liu Lan back to the log cabin as soon as possible.

The sled had fallen apart and was useless.

They would have to walk back.

Nash turned and walked back into the snow cave, approaching Liu Lan, who was curled up in a pile of animal hides.

The little girl was still fast asleep. Tiny ice crystals clung to her eyelashes, and her breath turned to white mist in the cold air.

He knelt beside his sister, his movements surprisingly gentle.

A rope danced between his fingers as he first wrapped it around Liu Lan’s waist and stomach, then looped it around his own chest and tied a dead knot.

Each knot was pulled tight, but he deliberately left a fist-sized gap.

He was afraid of hurting his sister.

Next, Nash shook out a reindeer hide blanket, its fluffy fur trembling gently in the wind.

He carefully wrapped Liu Lan up completely, tucking the edges in tightly as if swaddling a baby.

Finally, he added another blanket on top, until his sister was wrapped up into a round, furry ball.

Liu Lan unconsciously snuggled toward the warmth.

Only then did a faint smile appear on Nash’s lips as he reached out and tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ear.

In Feng Shan’s eyes, none of this was necessary.

’With Soul Power, there’s no need to worry.’

Particles of snow, like sand stirred by an invisible giant hand, raged wildly across the sky above the wasteland.

Feng Shan tightened his animal hide coat and walked at the very front.

Pulled along by Tyson, he stepped into the knee-deep snow, the crisp crunch of his boots crushing the layer of ice mixing with the howling wind.

The fingers hanging by his side quietly formed the sign for the Wind-Blocking Witchcraft, and his Soul Power seeped into the snow like gossamer threads.

In that instant, with Feng Shan at the center...

...the space within a three-meter radius suddenly began to glow faintly, like a giant, crystal-clear glass bowl had been placed upside down over them.

The raging Blizzard crashed against this transparent barrier and strangely dispersed.

It cascaded down the edges of the shield, kicking up flurries of snow to form a spinning vortex on the outside.

Large clumps of snow slammed against the top of the barrier.

But like water droplets on a hot iron plate, they slid off in all directions at angles that defied logic.

The curtain of snow that had blotted out the sky was forcefully torn open in this small pocket of the world.

Nash, carrying Liu Lan on his back, paused for a moment.

The corners of his animal hide coat were lifted by the penetrating cold wind, yet not a single snowflake touched him.

He gazed at Khilla’s straight back ahead of him.

A faint halo surrounded his body, creating a strange contrast with the white of the snowy plains.

Liu Lan stirred on his back.

Her warm breath traveled through the layers of animal hide, reminding Nash of the miracle the person before him had once performed.

Khilla was the Tribal Guardian Spirit, the incarnation of the spirit in all things.

’He could even save a sister who was about to freeze to death. What was dispersing a blizzard compared to that?’

Tyson sensed the change in the environment, its whip-like tail swinging from side to side.

It shook its thick fur and let out a happy whimper from its throat.

Its powerful limbs pawed at the snow, pulling on the rope with renewed vigor.

Under the protection of the Wind-Blocking Witchcraft, Tyson broke into a run, the snow splashing like silver sand under its powerful paws.

In less than half an hour, the two of them saw the outline of the camp.

The cold wind still howled, but it no longer carried shards of ice like sharp blades.

Their animal hide coats now only fluttered gently, no longer whipping violently in the wind.

The moment they stepped into the camp, a wave of warmth washed over them.

Feng Shan subconsciously rubbed his numb fingertips, noticing the change in temperature.

Back on the Mossy Wasteland, he had used a thermometer to measure the temperature, which had dropped as low as negative sixty degrees. Back then, his breath had turned to ice crystals in an instant.

But now, the vapor from his breath could linger briefly in the air, and the bone-chilling cold no longer seeped into his bones like a venomous snake.

He took out the thermometer and measured again. It showed only negative thirty degrees, and the blizzard had clearly weakened. The snowflakes no longer fell in a chaotic frenzy.

"The temperature is high enough."

’The temperature’s high enough,’ Feng Shan thought, his consciousness reaching out to the tribe’s Fire Seed.

The fiercely burning Fire Seed flickered slightly, as if responding to his command.

Its light gradually receded, and the heat it radiated began to stabilize.

It was negative sixty degrees outside, but here in the camp, just across the river, it was only negative thirty degrees.

This thirty-degree temperature difference could be explained by the combustion of underground natural gas.

After all, the permafrost of Alaska did contain abundant energy reserves. An abnormal rise in temperature wasn’t too outlandish, but it wasn’t so extreme as to defy all logic.

If he were to forcefully raise the camp’s temperature above freezing...

...it would be no different from drawing a conspicuous mark on a satellite map, which would surely attract a frantic investigation from the FBI.

They would dig up the Crown Territory inch by inch to uncover the truth behind the anomalous temperature increase.

As the cold wind swept bits of snow over the cabin’s eaves, a clear, cheerful shout suddenly pierced the still air.

"Brother Shan is back!"

Xiaohua was standing on her tiptoes, pressed against a frost-covered glass window, her nose red from the cold.

But now, she was jumping up and down excitedly, slapping the window frame and making it CLANG.

Before her voice had even faded...

...a commotion immediately erupted inside the cabin as the people gathered around the fireplace all rose to their feet.

The scraping of wooden chairs against the floor and the sound of hurried footsteps mingled together.

CREAK!

The heavy wooden door was pushed open, and a blast of frigid air poured in, only to be instantly dispersed by the warmth inside.

Feng Shan shook the snow from his shoulders and walked into the cabin.

Behind him, Nash kept his head down, protecting the bundle on his back. A fuzzy corner of cloth was faintly visible from beneath his animal hide coat.

"Where’s Liu Lan?"

Zicao pushed through the crowd and rushed forward, the cow-bone pendants on her braids clinking with her movement.

Bear’s Fang followed close behind. The usually majestic tribal chief now had red-rimmed eyes, and his voice trembled.

The other tribe members also stood on their tiptoes, their gazes anxiously sweeping over the two men.

Nash pressed his lips together.

Then, a brilliant smile suddenly broke out on his tattooed face, his purple lips stretching from ear to ear.

He untied the ropes crisscrossing his chest, his rough fingers moving with exceptional gentleness.

As the layers of blankets unfolded like flower petals, Little Liu Lan’s sleeping face was finally revealed.
