Chapter 606: Chapter 399: Leaving (Part 2)

The baffling complaint left Feng Shan bewildered.

Before Feng Shan could even react, Andrei had stormed into the cabin, leaving him standing there alone.

Feng Shan stood dazed in the cold wind, a mix of emotions in his heart.

He didn’t know whether to feel down about Natasha’s departure or exasperated by Andrei’s words.

A biting cold wind howled and swirled around the Crown Land Airport.

The propellers of the Beechcraft King Air 350 spun rapidly, emitting a deafening roar.

The powerful airflow kicked up the thick snow on the ground, forming white curtains of snow that rushed straight toward Feng Shan as he stood by the runway.

The force of the blast pushed him back several steps. He swayed for a moment before managing to steady himself.

The plane moved slowly along the runway.

It started off slowly, but as the engines roared to life, it picked up speed.

The wheels screeched against the runway.

At the end of the runway, the Beechcraft King Air lifted off.

Like a powerful eagle, it broke free from the wind and snow, soaring into the sky.

Feng Shan stood frozen, his eyes glued to the plane. Its red fuselage was a stark, eye-catching spot against the swirling blizzard.

However, as the plane climbed higher and flew farther away,

the red shape gradually blurred, eventually vanishing into the white curtain of snow.

Staring at the empty runway, Feng Shan was overcome with a sense of loss.

Natasha’s departure seemed to have taken a part of the warmth from his heart, leaving it empty.

’Maybe the kid could be called Feng Romanov.’

’The name’s a bit long, but it’s fair to both families. No one gets the short end of the stick.’

Feng Shan stood quietly for a long time, lost in a myriad of thoughts.

After a while, he sighed softly and muttered, "I should be heading back to China too!"

With that, he turned and strode towards the snowmobile parked by the runway,

leaving behind a trail of deep and shallow footprints that were gradually buried in the wind and snow.

「Back at the log cabin.」

After two days of careful tending by the tribe’s Fire Seed, the camp, which had been ravaged by the extreme cold wave, had now regained its vitality.

The members of the Bear Tribe and the staff who had remained behind were all busy with their work.

Wisps of smoke from the kitchen chimneys rose into the air, adding a rare touch of warmth to the icy landscape.

In the sky, the heavy clouds seemed to have loosened slightly, and the cold wave’s blizzard showed signs of stopping.

Faint starlight struggled to pierce the clouds, sprinkling onto the snow-covered ground and reflecting pinpricks of light.

A message came in over the radio.

The vortex of the extreme cold wave had left the Far North Region of Alaska, crossed the Chukchi Sea, and entered Russia’s Siberian region.

Even more excitingly, the flight ban had been lifted, and aircraft were now permitted to enter the airspace of the Far North.

This news brought a flicker of joy to Feng Shan’s heart, and at the same time, Xiaohua was at his side, jumping for joy.

She was thrilled at the prospect of leaving the frigid Far North.

Watching Xiaohua’s adorable display, Feng Shan couldn’t help but crack a smile, and the gloom in his heart dissipated considerably.

Inside the log cabin, the firewood in the fireplace let out a CRACKLE and POP. Flying sparks cast flecks of light on the brass firescreen.

Feng Shan leaned back on the sofa and gathered Yves, Ma Wei, Nash, and Bear’s Fang to sit around him.

He had gathered them to delegate tasks for after he left the camp.

With the tribe’s Fire Seed at the camp, he could still manage things remotely, so nothing should go wrong.

The main priority was rebuilding the camp.

First, the ranch. The cold wave and blizzard had frozen all the cattle and sheep to death. After the cold wave ended, Yves was to personally make a trip to the Horned Ranch to reorder a new batch of livestock.

Then there was the matter of dealing with the dead animals.

Once the snow melted, if that many carcasses weren’t dealt with in time, they would definitely pollute the environment.

The people from the Bear Tribe would be responsible for this.

Only Nash had a gloomy expression, his fingers unconsciously rubbing the menacing tattoo on his neck.

"You’ll stay here and guard the camp." Feng Shan said with a look of resignation. "I wanted to take you back with me, but customs will never let you in."

Nash snorted and turned away, muttering, "Is China really that strict? It’s not like I’m going to cause trouble. So what if I have a tattoo on my face?"

As for Ma Wei, Feng Shan deliberately didn’t mention him and instead looked at Yves.

"The employees who went home for Christmas should be heading back to the camp soon. You need to coordinate their return, book their plane tickets, and contact Old Tom about the pickup flights."

After the meeting was dismissed, just as Ma Wei was about to leave, Feng Shan pulled him into a corner.

In the dim light, Ma Wei let out a heavy breath, nodded with a solemn expression, then turned and walked away quickly.

After arranging everything, Feng Shan, holding Coca-Cola, left the camp on a P750 with Xiaohua, Hu Zi, and Black Hide.

The moment the P750 broke through the cloud layer, the snowfield outside the porthole transformed into a turbulent white wave.

Feng Shan pressed his face against the window and looked down. The once well-ordered camp was now just a few small black dots.

In the distance, the outline of the Brooks Range was blurred, as if gnawed away by the blizzard, and the glaciers roared and whimpered in the fierce wind.

As the plane crested the mountain peaks, the fuselage shuddered in the turbulence.

His phone got a signal again.

Instantly, the sound of text message notifications began to chime incessantly.

He casually scrolled through them. They were mostly from acquaintances and friends, asking about the disaster in the Crown Territory and the state of the camp.

Feng Shan couldn’t be bothered to explain to each one individually, so he sent a group reply.

He explained that the camp’s signal tower had been down, making it impossible to receive calls, and he only briefly touched on the damage the camp had sustained.

After replying to the texts, he immediately called Alvin, the number one hero of the cold wave.

Hearing Alvin’s slightly excited greeting through the receiver, a smile touched Feng Shan’s lips.

On the phone, he first lavished Alvin with praise.

Then he told him to pass a message to the crew.

Every crew member who participated in this fishing operation would receive a 100,000 US Dollar bonus.

As for the profits from fishing during this period, they would also all go to the crew.

Alvin was clearly stunned and began to stammer, "Boss, this... this is too much!"

"Cut the crap!" Feng Shan interrupted him with a laugh. "You guys stuck to my orders and went out to fish despite the cold wave. That dedication alone is worth this price."

Then, after a pause, Feng Shan lowered his voice. "As for you, besides the established dividends from the River Beach, I’ll give you an additional 5% of the net profit."

Don’t underestimate this 5%.

Based on the recent crab fishing, which had brought Feng Shan a profit of nearly 20 million dollars,

5% of that is 1 million US Dollars.

Moreover, this 5% is permanent. As long as the River Beach fleet exists, it will continue.

The other end of the line went silent for a moment, followed by the sound of Alvin’s suppressed gasp.

Feng Shan could imagine that their lame captain’s eyes must be wide with disbelief right now. He couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "Keep up the good work. There’s another big surprise waiting for you in a while!"

As he hung up the phone,

the P750 passed through the last layer of clouds and entered the airspace of Fairbanks City.

The gloomy sunlight poured in, illuminating the smiling glint in his eyes.

The P750’s tires rolled over the thin ice covering the runway at Old Tom’s Flying School.

Just as it came to a stop, a figure wrapped in a thick down jacket and wearing furry earmuffs came stumbling over.

Old Tom looked just like an overinflated penguin.

His bulky body carved a crooked path through the snow as he finally managed to spread his arms wide.

The expression on his face was so exaggerated it could have swallowed the sun.

"Thank God! Feng, it’s so good to see you’re okay! I’ve been trying to contact you for days, but I could never get through. I was so worried I couldn’t even eat!"

"It’s a good thing you couldn’t eat, or you wouldn’t have any clothes that fit!" Feng Shan laughed and went to meet him, getting squeezed in a bear hug from Old Tom that almost took his breath away.

The white mist of Old Tom’s breath condensed into frost between them. He patted Feng Shan’s back, clicking his tongue with lingering fear.

"Buddy, it’s because I’m fat that I survived this cold wave!"

Then he lowered his voice, his fleshy cheeks trembling. "You have no idea. This cold wave was terrifying. The entire city of Fairbank turned into an ice castle. Even the whiskey in the bars froze solid!"

Feng Shan’s expression flickered. As someone who had been at the heart of the cold wave, he of course knew the power of this disaster.

If Alvin hadn’t decisively led the River Beach on its fishing operation, there probably would have been real casualties at the camp.

Xiaohua, Hu Zi, and Black Hide got off the plane.

Old Tom immediately switched to enthusiastic mode, waving his plump hands in the air. "Folks, follow me! Let’s go to my place for a cup of coffee to warm up. It’s too damn cold out here!"
