Chapter 716: Chapter 454: Consultant (2)
Everyone saw each other day in and day out, so the camp employees all basically knew one another.
But for a classic, elite career woman to suddenly appear...
And to call Feng "Boss," no less.
"I’m Tessa." The corners of the woman’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly. Her voice was cold, and every word seemed to carry a chill.
"Tessa?"
Feng Mountain couldn’t help but let out a soft cry, a look of surprise mixed with something more complex appearing on his face.
’Clothes really do make the man,’ he thought.
He recalled seeing Tessa in the back kitchen before.
She was always wearing a chef’s uniform with an apron tied around her waist.
She was always holding either a potato or a spatula.
She kept her head down and worked all day, a picture of quiet obscurity.
But now, looking at her temperament and attire, she was like a completely different person. It was hard to believe they were one and the same.
"Boss, starting today, I’d appreciate it if you’d notify me in advance of any discussions regarding business collaborations."
Tessa ignored the surprise in Feng Mountain’s eyes.
She pulled up a chair on her own, placed it beside Feng Mountain, and sat down with composure.
She then turned her gaze to a bewildered Old Tom and Little Barry. She gave them a cold nod by way of greeting before introducing herself. "I’m the boss’s personal financial advisor, Tessa!"
"Right, right, right!"
Only then did Feng Mountain react. He gave an awkward laugh and hurriedly introduced her. "This is my personal financial advisor. In the future, Tessa will be involved in all of Crown Territory’s investment projects. She’s a professional and very experienced in financial investment."
Old Tom’s face instantly broke into the kind of knowing, meaningful smile shared between men.
He silently snickered to himself.
’Personal financial advisor? Look at this display. She’s clearly a personal secretary.’
’All rich guys like to play these games.’
’During the cold snap, I also found a "secretary"... for driving lessons.’
’She took me for a "drive" every day, and sometimes we even "flew a plane".’
But despite his thoughts, Old Tom offered a warm greeting. "Hello, Ms. Tessa. Can I get you something to drink?"
"Coffee. Thank you."
From the moment she appeared, Tessa’s expression had been as unchanging as a ten-thousand-year-old glacier.
Even when making normal conversation, her words seemed to carry a biting chill.
It made people feel like they were talking to an iceberg.
Old Tom was slightly taken aback, the smile on his face freezing for a moment.
Then he remained polite, beckoning to a server and ordering a coffee.
Seeing this, Little Barry, who was sitting to the side, gave an awkward laugh, trying to ease the tense atmosphere.
Since he had a professional financial advisor right beside him, Feng Mountain didn’t think twice before handing the documents from the container company to Tessa.
"Take a look. Are there any problems?"
Tessa took the documents, and her gaze immediately became focused.
She flipped through them page by page, not missing a single detail.
She examined every clause in the contract as if with a magnifying glass.
Not only that, but from time to time she would question Little Barry about the content and wording of the clauses.
The questions came one after another, and they were extremely detailed.
This barrage of questions had Little Barry breaking out in a sweat.
He originally thought he knew the contract inside and out, but faced with Tessa’s meticulous questioning, he realized his understanding was far from sufficient.
Even Little Barry hadn’t expected it.
He never imagined this frosty-faced advisor would be so thorough, capable of finding even the tiniest unreasonable details in the contract.
While Tessa was diligently poring over the contract...
Feng Mountain shot Old Tom a smug glance, his eyes asking, ’What do you think? My advisor’s not bad, eh?’
Old Tom’s face was downcast.
Despite the roaring fireplace in the restaurant, a cold sweat had unconsciously broken out on his forehead.
This personal advisor wasn’t just "not bad."
Her eyes were practically X-ray machines; no tiny detail could escape her sharp gaze.
And her demand for detail was pushed to the extreme.
She even demanded that the contract from the container design company explicitly state the dimensions of each container home, specifying them down to the centimeter.
That included how many nuts and bolts would be used in each container home; every single one had to be clearly accounted for.
The size parameters of the mounting screws for the installation process also had to be listed in detail, as if the entire installation procedure had to be replicated in the contract.
She also required the factory quality inspection reports for the parts supplied with the container homes.
To ensure every single part met quality standards.
Just listening made Old Tom’s skin crawl.
’If a single small container home requires such detailed documentation...’
’Then what about my proposal to rent the Crown Territory runway and open a flight experience company...?’
Old Tom subconsciously felt for the single-page proposal in his pocket.
His heart pounded with dread.
He couldn’t help but wonder.
’If this demanding advisor saw this ridiculously simple proposal...’
’Would she slap it right across my face?’
The thought made Old Tom’s expression turn even fouler.
「An hour slipped by.」
The only sounds at the table were the rustling of paper as Tessa reviewed the documents and her occasional questions directed at Little Barry.
Finally.
Tessa put down her pen.
She handed the contract, which was covered in dense revisions, to Little Barry, whose face had already turned deathly pale.
"Mr. Barry, these are the current issues with the contract. My revisions are noted on it. Please contact the design company as soon as possible. I expect results by tomorrow."
Tessa’s tone was calm and left no room for argument, as if completing the task were a matter of course.
Then, she looked straight at Little Barry, reminding him of his responsibility.
"Since the boss has promised you a commission, it is expected that you do your job properly."
"O-Okay... Yes, I’ll go to the design company to get the contract revised right away."
At that moment, Little Barry was utterly crushed.
He had been looking forward to making a good impression on the boss.
But reality was like a bucket of cold water, completely extinguishing his enthusiasm.
Little Barry’s mind was a complete mess.
He was in a daze as he mechanically reached out and blankly accepted the contract.
He got up and headed for the restaurant exit, his steps rushed and unsteady.
Watching Little Barry’s dejected state...
Old Tom felt a pang of sympathy and couldn’t stop himself from calling out a reminder.
"Buddy, where are you going? This is the Tundra."
Only then did Little Barry react as if waking from a dream.
Crown Territory was remote and had limited facilities, with no office equipment like a fax machine to quickly transmit documents.
A trace of embarrassment and anxiety flashed across his face.
He quickly turned back, nodding apologetically again and again to Feng Mountain and Tessa.
He was like a child who had done something wrong, hoping for the adults’ forgiveness.
Then, as if grasping at a lifeline, he grabbed Old Tom and said anxiously, "Buddy, quickly arrange a plane for me! I need to go to Fairbanks."
When Old Tom heard this, he was secretly delighted, instantly feeling he had found the perfect excuse to slip away.
He hurriedly stood up, grabbed Little Barry, and headed for the restaurant exit without looking back, muttering, "Calm down, I’ll take you right now."
In the blink of an eye, the two figures disappeared from the restaurant’s entrance.
Feng Mountain couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. He turned to look at Tessa, his eyes full of praise.
"Tessa, thank you for being so thorough today. I would have never known about all these hidden issues in the contract otherwise."
Tessa nodded slightly, her expression as placid as ever. "It’s my duty, Boss. Ensuring the integrity of the contract is crucial to the interests of the Crown Territory."
Having witnessed Tessa’s devastating effectiveness at work, Feng Mountain now had a very deep appreciation for her skills.
That rigorous, meticulous, and almost draconian drive...
It wasn’t just Old Tom who was scared; even he felt his own skin crawl.
He gave an awkward laugh and promptly stood up. "Let’s call it a day. You can clock out."
"Boss!" But contrary to his expectation, Tessa didn’t leave. Instead, she rose to her feet as well, looked Feng Mountain straight in the eye, and said grimly, "After I took over from Miss Jenny, I conducted a preliminary analysis of the Crown Territory’s finances. The results are not good. In fact, the situation is extremely dangerous."
"If we don’t make comprehensive adjustments immediately, based on current trends, there is a 90% chance the Crown Territory will go bankrupt."
