Landlord in the Arctic
Chapter 724 - 458: Admiration
Chapter 724: Chapter 458: Admiration
Next, a tiger took the initiative and walked over to a log.
A member of the Bear Tribe fashioned a slipknot from the rope, secured it around the tiger’s powerful shoulders and neck, then gently patted its back.
The tiger knew it was time to go.
It shifted its stance slightly.
Its powerful limbs strained, muscles bunching, displaying an incredible sense of strength.
It easily pulled the log, which weighed several hundred kilograms, and began walking step by step toward the transfer point.
Behind it.
The log slid slowly across the snow, leaving a deep groove in its wake.
It was undeniable.
With the Tiger Pack joining the logging operation, the entire process became much easier.
This was especially true for the hundred-meter distance between the logging site and the transfer point.
If they had to rely solely on manpower, they would need snowmobiles to drag the logs. That method was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but it was also hard on the vehicles and wasted fuel.
The tigers were different.
They had great stamina and immense strength.
All they required was ten pounds of beef as payment, and they were obedient, saving a great deal of manpower and resources.
Tyson dragged a log past Prince.
He deliberately paused.
Then he slowly dragged the log away.
Its massive body easily pulled the heavy log, but its pace was deliberately slow, as if showing off its strength to Prince.
Prince was instantly infuriated.
Whining in frustration, he shot like an arrow toward the logging site and snatched a rope off the ground with his mouth.
He stared expectantly at a member of the Bear Tribe, signaling for the man to harness him.
He wanted to prove that he, too, could handle the job just like the tigers.
"You can’t do it!" The Bear Tribe members were always blunt.
Any given log was five or six meters long and weighed several hundred kilograms.
Without the aid of a sled, it was completely impossible for a single dog to pull one.
WHINE!!
Prince let out a series of urgent, stubborn whines.
Shaking his head insistently, he once again demanded that the tribesman put the harness on him.
Although the Bear Tribe member thought it was highly unlikely Prince could move the log, he didn’t have the heart to refuse him outright.
With no other choice, he looked over to Feng Mountain. His questioning gaze seemed to ask, ’Khilla, what do you think?’
"Put it on him. Let him try."
Feng Mountain looked at Prince’s defiant expression.
’My boy doesn’t want to lose face in front of the Princess,’ he thought to himself.
With permission granted,
the Bear Tribe member reluctantly and carefully placed the harness on Prince.
Once it was secure, he gave Prince’s back a light pat,
signaling that it was time to pull.
At the signal,
Prince’s gaze instantly hardened, as if a fire had been lit within his eyes.
He dug in with all four paws, muscles tensing, his entire body trembling with the sheer effort.
He pulled hard on the rope, a low growl rumbling in his throat, as if cheering himself on.
But reality was cruel.
The massive log lay quietly in the snow, completely motionless.
Prince was clearly embarrassed. He took another step forward.
He then reared up on his hind legs,
trying to use the momentum of lunging forward to move the log.
But a log weighing several hundred kilograms was still too heavy for a Husky.
No matter how hard he tried,
the log remained completely still, as if mercilessly mocking his hubris.
Prince yapped in frustration.
His sharp, urgent yaps echoed across the open snowfield, drawing the Wolf Pack to watch.
The Wolf Pack members gathered from all directions.
They formed a circle, surrounding Prince and the log.
Princess was also standing nearby.
Her gaze was fixed on Prince, her eyes filled with both worry and expectation.
In the world of wolves, the strong are always revered.
Only the strongest, most capable wolf is qualified to become the leader and command the entire pack.
As a Husky, Prince had still managed to gain the respect of the Wolf Pack and become the leader of the White Wolf Family.
This was partly due to the miraculous power of the Fire Seed, which had enhanced his body to be far superior to others of his breed.
It was also thanks to the support of the older Taiga Wolves, who had witnessed his growth and acknowledged his leadership abilities.
But in the eyes of the newer Taiga Wolves who had joined the pack,
strength was the foundation of everything, and the leader’s position was not unassailable.
Anyone with enough strength...
...could challenge the current leader and, upon success, become the new Alpha Wolf.
They would enjoy the right to eat first, as well as mating rights within the pack.
Now, watching Prince struggle with the log, their eyes held a calculating, challenging glint.
"Khilla!"
Nash walked up to Feng Mountain’s side.
His gaze, full of pity, fell on Prince, who was desperately trying to drag the log through the snow.
’Prince grew up in the camp; I’ve known him since he was a pup. He’s like my own kid.’
After all, that one log weighed several hundred kilograms.
It was impossible for Prince to move it.
He could only watch as the rope bit deeper and deeper into Prince’s shoulders.
With every pull, the friction tore away some of the fur on his shoulders, making Nash’s heart ache.
The Tiger Pack, having returned from hauling a log, also stood by and watched this scene.
They quietly watched Prince.
Curiosity shone in their eyes as they observed this unusual contest.
"Leave him be. This is his choice," Feng Mountain said, his expression impassive. His gaze was fixed on the struggling Prince, his tone flat but cold. "If he wants to be the leader of the Wolf Pack, he needs to show his strength. If he doesn’t have it, he should go back to camp and be a good little pet."
In Feng Mountain’s mind,
an Alpha Wolf should have the presence of one.
’Like when I hunted the Black Wolf Fenrir on the Far North Tundra. Now that was a harrowing battle.’
The Black Wolf Fenrir had matched wits and courage against the Hunting Team.
It rampaged across the vast Tundra without restraint, displaying unparalleled wildness and courage.
And when it finally faced him in a life-or-death battle,
it showed no fear. That willingness to face death head-on—that was the mark of a true Alpha Wolf.
Only a wolf like that...
...could be called a true leader of the pack.
Even in death, it would face its homeland, dying a heroic, magnificent death.
"Come on, Prince!" Yves yelled.
"Go, Prince! Don’t back down!" Feng Jun shouted, raising his chainsaw in encouragement.
"Go, Prince!" The surrounding people all began to shout, their cries rising and falling, gathering into a powerful chorus.
"Go for it, Husky!"
Someone in the crowd shouted, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
But there was not a trace of mockery in the laughter, only affection and encouragement for Prince.
Hearing so many people cheering him on,
Prince surged forward again and again with all his might, an unyielding flame burning in his eyes.
His claws pierced through the packed snow and dug deep into the earth beneath.
Every effort made his body tremble slightly, but he still clenched his jaw and refused to give up.
Finally, under Prince’s relentless pulling,
the log that had been lying quietly in the snow, as if nudged by some mysterious force, shifted ever so slightly.
This infinitesimal movement,
in the eyes of the crowd, was a signal that Prince’s efforts were beginning to pay off.
Then,
the log began to move more and more.
Prince felt the log begin to shift, and his gaze grew even more resolute.
He threw his whole body forward, his legs straining like steel pistons.
Every muscle in his body was taut, straining toward this single goal.
As Prince pulled with all his might, the log began to slowly move forward.
One step, two steps, three steps...
Every forward step was another rung on the ladder to glory.
Once the log started moving, the friction between it and the snow was reduced.
As a result, he no longer needed to use as much force as he did at the beginning.
Now, Prince dragged the log, holding his head high.
He strode forward, his posture a declaration of victory to the entire world.
Seeing this, the people around burst into deafening cheers.
Everyone celebrated Prince’s persistence and success. The cheers echoed through the forest, long and loud.
Awestruck by Prince’s feat, the Wolf Pack threw back their heads and let out a chorus of soaring howls.
They were declaring their submission to Prince,
acknowledging his unshakeable position as leader.
Princess, ecstatic, leaped and danced around Prince,
letting out a series of joyful yips.
Her eyes shone with pride. Seeing her mate successfully prove his strength filled the Princess’s heart with pride.
Tyson, leading the Tiger Pack, had always looked at Prince with disdain.
After all, tigers are naturally powerful creatures.
At first, he had been skeptical of Prince’s attempt to haul the log.
But now,
when he witnessed with his own eyes Prince successfully dragging the log through sheer perseverance,
his expression changed. The disdain and contempt vanished, replaced by acknowledgment and respect.
He had earned their respect.
