Let’s Squander A Billion First!
Chapter 2178: Mr. Zombie (37)
Chapter 2178: Chapter 2178: Mr. Zombie (37)
Not to mention the base leader, even if God the Father came, they wouldn’t stand a chance.
But Chuzheng offered them a new perspective.
Zombies like the Good Person Card aren’t unique; there are others among the zombies as well.
Just like the pregnant woman at the water plant, she was conscious and didn’t harm her husband.
Chuzheng had seen zombies in the horde whose condition was improving. Their wounds slowly healed; as long as their hearts kept beating and they didn’t starve to death, their condition would get better.
The virus seemed to have adapted to them, allowing them to repeatedly regain their health.
Additionally, these zombies wouldn’t attack those who were recovering, even if they were improving, they were still regarded as one of them.
As for the reasons behind this, it was up to them to study further.
-
Chuzheng had no idea the laboratory folks were so tangled up; she was busy dealing with a case of swapped flower pots.
"I didn’t switch them!" Chuzheng said sternly, "Don’t make false accusations."
"You switched them." Bei Chi retorted, "I marked them yesterday, and today it’s gone!"
"..."
Well!
He’s learned to make marks now.
Bei Chi wasn’t discovering something wrong for the first time; he had felt something was off before.
But back then, he didn’t think about marking them. Now, his thinking was clearer, and he came up with the idea.
Didn’t expect them to be really different.
"Why did you swap my flower pot?"
"I didn’t swap it." Chuzheng struggled to insist.
"Then explain why my marks are gone?"
"Maybe it grew out by itself." Chuzheng started to spout nonsense.
Bei Chi: "Do you think I’m a child?"
Chuzheng asked back: "Aren’t you?"
"...I’m not!" Bei Chi got so angry he almost couldn’t speak, "Don’t change the subject. Why did you swap my pot?"
"What’s the difference?" They’re all flowers; what’s the distinction? If I don’t swap them, you’ll argue with me about why they died.
"They’re not the same."
"How are they not?" Chuzheng pursued.
"..." Bei Chi pressed his lips and didn’t speak, his fingers pinching the leaf, "Every flower is different; they’re alive. Like you."
Like her, they have vigorous vitality.
Even in dark places, they strive to grow towards the sun.
The sunlight falling through crevices can make them grow and bloom brilliantly.
Chuzheng: "???"
She indeed is alive.
But why be like her?
"I’m different from you, I know." Bei Chi said, head down, voice slightly stuck, he reached out his hand, his fingertips against where Chuzheng’s heart was, "It’s beating, mine isn’t."
Chuzheng instinctively replied: "If it doesn’t beat, then you’re dead."
Zombies’ hearts do beat in this world, but it’s very faint, so faint that one can’t catch it.
Their bodies seem frozen, all functions reduced to the bare minimum.
Bei Chi and Chuzheng might not share the same understanding, he frowned slightly, pursed his lips, and carried the flower pot to the side.
Chuzheng: "..."
Did I say something wrong again!
Why is it so hard!
-
Base.
The food they grow is limited, everyone can only be ensured not to starve, eating to satisfaction and staying warm isn’t so easy.
The zombies outside are still numerous, it’s impossible to eliminate them completely in a short time.
So many people still dare not leave the base, can only huddle inside.
After Jin Ling was brought into the base, she kept trying to find an opportunity to leave, but she might have been rather unlucky and didn’t find a suitable chance.
This group is not human at all; they are beasts.
"Jin Ling, Jin Ling!"
Jin Ling quickly exited the room, her gaze swept across the people in the room before quickly lowering.
"Is the meal ready?" Someone asked impatiently, "Starving here, hurry and bring the food out."
"...There are no ingredients left." Jin Ling said quietly.
"Damn!" One suddenly got up, "It hasn’t been long since we got them and they’re gone again? Did you steal something to eat?"
Jin Ling retreated, face pale as a ghost: "No... I didn’t."
"Alright, alright, times are tough in the base now, so many of us, how long can we last." Someone sitting in the corner spoke a fair word.
"Life is truly... I heard the zombies’ side has stuff growing well, why doesn’t ours?"
"Damn! Now we actually envy a bunch of monsters."
A few people cursed, Jin Ling stood by the wall, silent.
The information she got was all from their mouths, and she vaguely knew things outside were developing yet not like in her dreams.
Why the difference, Jin Ling didn’t know.
She’s been trapped here too long.
"What are you standing there for?" Someone found Jin Ling bothersome and snorted: "Get inside."
Jin Ling: "..."
Jin Ling slunk back into the room.
Jin Ling finally found a chance after a few days; these people got drunk, maybe because she acted too obedient during this time, they forgot to lock the door.
Jin Ling carefully slipped out.
But she hadn’t run far when she heard someone pursuing her from behind.
The base had already lost power, it was pitch black everywhere, Jin Ling didn’t even know where she turned, couldn’t see anyone.
Her pursuer was getting closer, Jin Ling almost exhausted her strength to dash out of the dark alley.
There was light outside, Jin Ling bumped into someone, and in her ears were continuous ’clicking’ sounds.
Jin Ling didn’t even have time to see who she hit before her body was pulled backward, held by the shoulders: "Sorry, sorry officer, my wife is out of her mind, insisting on finding our son at night, I couldn’t stop her."
"I don’t know him!" Jin Ling immediately shouted, "Help, they’re bad people, they’re illegally keeping me!"
The man didn’t stop her, let her shout, just held her tightly.
"What’s going on?" The base patrol frowned and asked, "Why are you outside at night?"
The man pointed to his forehead: "Ever since the son was lost, she became like this. Today I didn’t watch closely, and she ran out, sorry for troubling you officers."
"I don’t know her, help, he’s lying, I have no son, let me go, help."
Jin Ling was emotional, shouting, some words indistinct, coupled with the dim lighting, she really seemed a bit like a madwoman.
Patrol cast a quick glance and waved: "Hurry up, stop wandering here."
"Yeah, got it."
The man dragged Jin Ling away.
Jin Ling struggled fiercely, the patrol appeared curious, about to stop them.
Jin Ling abruptly ceased screaming and struggling, held by the man, head resting on his shoulder, seemingly soothing her.
Jin Ling stared at the knife in the man’s hand, where would she dare shout.
"What’s the matter?"
Jin Ling heard a familiar voice from behind, she flinched, wanted to cry for help, but the cold object on her neck stopped her.
Someone responded behind: "Nothing, a young couple throwing a tantrum, the woman not right in the head."
No!
Help!
Unfortunately, no one heard her inner scream.
The dark ahead gradually swallowed her.
