Level Eater
Chapter 285
While being carried by Jeanne, who had activated True Form and Cloud Camouflage Fur, Tatsuro looked out from the Palanquin to find an uninhabited plain that seemed suitable for withstanding damage from powerful magic.
“There! That looks like a good spot, doesn’t it?” Ai exclaimed.
“Oh, you’re right!” Tatsuro responded.
Ai quickly spotted a barren plain with exposed brown soil and scarcely any grass. Cardina, who was on guard beside Jeanne, used Detection Magic and Spirit Division: Far Sight Near Slash to project an image of the area.
The projection revealed no humans nearby, only a few magical beasts roaming about—a perfect testing ground.
“Jeanne, follow Cardina’s guidance and land,” Tatsuro instructed through the communication tube.
“Neigh!” Jeanne neighed in acknowledgment.
Cardina took the lead, and Jeanne followed, flying toward the landing site. The magical beasts at the location were swiftly dispatched by Cardina, who tossed them far away. Jeanne then landed smoothly, maintaining a level position as if lying flat on her belly.
Once the landing was confirmed, everyone disembarked immediately. After ensuring everyone was out, Tatsuro stored the Palanquin in his Infinite Item Field.
“This place seems like it can handle some terrain changes,” Ai remarked.“Yeah, changing the terrain is kind of the plan…” Tatsuro replied.
“Of course it is! With Father’s full-powered magic, that’s a piece of cake!” Nana chimed in.
“Don’t raise the bar too high for me. Alright, let’s do this!”
“Oh!” Ai cheered.
Tatsuro retrieved his Rifle Staff from the Infinite Item Field and imbued it with Amaterasu. He then gave instructions to Tsukuyomi, who was attached to his coat.
“For safety, deploy the Dragon Barrier.”
Tsukuyomi promptly complied, erecting a sturdy wall of Dragon Force in front of Tatsuro to block any residual effects.
“Amaterasu, we’re going all out,” Tatsuro declared.
Understanding his intent, Amaterasu shifted from Low Output Body to High Output Body in an instant. The main core of the Rifle Staff, where Amaterasu resided, began emitting intense blue light particles, and a commanding Dragon’s Aura enveloped the surroundings.
Tatsuro extended only the tip of the Rifle Staff forward, and a small hole opened in the Dragon Barrier, allowing the tip to protrude outside. As Tsukuyomi minimized and stabilized the hole, Tatsuro channeled both Dragon Force and magical energy into Amaterasu without holding back.
This time, they were combining Amaterasu’s Dragon’s Breath Lv.10, Offensive Enhancement, and Fire Magic Lv.14 with Tatsuro’s Light Magic Lv.14 and Fire Magic Lv.11 to create a mixed magic attack—a blazing Dragon’s Breath of light and fire.
An immense amount of dragon-magic energy, far beyond what an ordinary person could muster, gathered at the tip of the staff. The Magic Brain’s calculations quickly shaped it into a completed spell ready to be unleashed.
“Here we go! Five—four—three—two—one—fire!” Tatsuro shouted.
As everyone watched with bated breath, the spell was released the moment he gave the command. A radiant flame burst from the staff’s tip, spreading across a wide area.
In less than a second, everything beyond the barrier was incinerated, transforming the area into a seething magma zone. The magical beasts vanished without even leaving ash. The heated, molten ground began spreading toward Tatsuro and the others.
“Crap—!” Tatsuro exclaimed, hastily cutting off the light-fire Dragon’s Breath.
The magma’s advance stopped, but a portion of the ground still glowed with volcanic heat, resembling a crater.
“Brother, this has turned a pretty deep area into magma,” Leah pointed out.
“Well… it’ll probably go back to normal if we leave it, right?” Tatsuro said optimistically.
“From what I can see, it’ll stay like this for nearly a hundred years,” Leah observed.
“A hundred years? That’s some serious firepower!” Ai exclaimed.
“And it took almost no time to construct the spell”
“It’s like you can burn anything you want!”
“No way! If we keep doing this, no one will be able to live here!” Leah protested.
As Leah pointed out, Tatsuro’s brief two-to-three-second spell had turned the area into a deadly zone where only specialized magical beasts could survive if left unchecked.
“Well, it’s not like anyone lives here. Maybe it could become a tourist spot,” Tatsuro suggested.
“How about: ‘Suddenly Appearing on the Surface! A Volcanic Crater Without a Mountain!’”
“That’s it!” Ai cheered.
“That’s not it! Why are you both acting like you don’t want to fix this?!”
“I thought it could bring some new energy to the stagnant Lyusiten territory,” Tatsuro said, half-joking.
“That’s too new! It’s terrifying!” Leah shot back.
Tatsuro, not entirely serious, calmed Leah down and had Amaterasu switch back to High Output Body from Low Output Body to prepare again.
“You’re right. This’ll take more power than before. Nana, join in with your Ice Magic,” Tatsuro said.
“Got it!” Nana replied.
This time, they combined Nana’s Ice Magic, Tsukuyomi’s Ice Magic, Tatsuro’s Ice Magic and Light Magic, and Amaterasu’s Dragon’s Breath, enhanced further by Offensive Enhancement.
The ultra-high-output ice magic, fully utilizing the Magic Brain’s computational power, activated instantly.
A radiant icy breath shot from the staff, absorbing the magma’s heat. The molten ground was forcibly transformed into a frozen zone, and the warped terrain solidified as it cooled.
“Perfect. No one would think there was magma here now,” Tatsuro said proudly.
“It’s all ice now!” Ai exclaimed.
Indeed, the magma had been replaced by ice. Leah, observing through her All-Seeing Eye, clutched her head in frustration.
“This is overdoing it too…” she muttered.
“But it’s so sparkly and pretty!” Nana said.
“Totally!”
“It is pretty, but this ice is dangerous…” Leah cautioned.
The ice wasn’t ordinary—it was a magically created, radiant ice that showed no sign of melting at normal temperatures. Even a moderate flame couldn’t leave a drop on its surface. And though beautiful, it posed a hidden threat.
“Look, Tatsuro! A bird-type magical beast is coming!” Ai pointed out.
“Oh, yeah. Maybe this was its feeding ground—” Tatsuro began.
“““““Ah…”””””
“Peewee…”
“Neigh…”
As the small bird-like magical beast approached the icy terrain, confused by the unfamiliar environment, it was instantly frozen solid and died.
The ice emitted such intense magical cold that creatures with low magic resistance would be frozen just by getting close. Ai was safe inside Tsukuyomi’s Dragon Barrier, which blocked the cold, but direct contact outside would have led to the same fate as the bird.
The beautiful but deadly frozen zone was, in fact, more dangerous than the magma had been.
“If you get close and die, you’ll be perfectly cryogenically preserved, This isn’t a tourist spot—it’s a suicide destination. We need to remove it now.”
“Y-yeah…” Ai agreed, stepping back from the ice even though she was safe inside the barrier.
Tatsuro, eyeing her reaction, carefully visualized an appropriate level of firepower and used the fire Dragon’s Breath to melt the ice cautiously.
“How’s this?” Tatsuro asked.
“Hmm, it’s pretty barren now after all that beauty,” Ai said.
“Yeah,” Tatsuro agreed.
With the ice fully evaporated, the ground was now a rugged mix of cooled, solidified soil and rock, devoid of even a single blade of grass. Compared to the vibrant magma and sparkling ice, it felt desolate.
“Why don’t we plant some flowers? I bought a bunch of flower seeds for Tree Magic. A flower garden won’t be harmful like fire or ice.”
“That sounds awesome!”
The idea was well-received, especially among the girls. Thus, the flower garden plan was set in motion.
“First, we need to fix the soil,” Tatsuro said.
“It’s pretty hard down deep now. Grass won’t even grow like this” Ai said.
“Right. Cardina, Jeanne, Athena—help out with Earth Magic and Tree Magic,” Tatsuro instructed.
“Peewee!”
“Neigh!”
“Got it!”
To soften the hardened ground, Tatsuro infused Earth Magic into the soil with Cardina and Athena’s assistance, channeling it through Amaterasu pressed against the ground. He visualized breaking the hardened areas into fine particles.
In no time, the soil became softer than it had been before the fire Dragon’s Breath. With Jeanne’s help, Tatsuro mixed in Tree Magic imbued with nutrients for plants, stirring the soil like a mixer.
“This should be good for planting anything,” Tatsuro said.
“Yeah, the soil’s super fluffy now!” Ai agreed.
“Now for the flower seeds”
Tatsuro said, pulling dozens of seed varieties from the Infinite Item Field purchased in town for unknown purposes and scattering them randomly with Wind Magic.
“Aren’t you going to group the same types together?” Ai asked.
“That’d be pretty, but it might feel too artificial, I want it to feel natural.”
“Nice thinking!” Ai said, giving a thumbs-up and a wink.
Tatsuro kissed her cheek lightly, then borrowed Jeanne’s power again to activate the seeds with Tree Magic. The seeds sprouted, grew rapidly, and bloomed.
He didn’t stop there, encouraging further growth, letting them wither to drop new seeds, and repeating the cycle as if watching a time-lapse video. When it felt right, he stopped the magic.
“Amazing! It’s a sea of flowers!” Ai exclaimed.
“It’s safe and absolutely beautiful!” Leah added.
“Peewee!”
“Neigh!”
“It’s gorgeous!”
“Spectacular!”
The barren plain, once covered in brown soil with barely any grass, had transformed in minutes into a stunning landscape blanketed with a carpet of various flowers.
The girls, their faces softening, eagerly stepped into the flower field. Tatsuro watched Ai’s innocent joy, captivated, until she turned back with a radiant smile.
“Tatsuro, come on!” she called.
“Right, I’m coming!” he replied, his heart fluttering yet again with love for Ai as he ran to join her.
Incidentally, months after Tatsuro and the others left, adventurers discovered the flower garden.
Shocked by the sudden appearance of such a splendid garden in a barren wasteland, they investigated, suspecting it might be an omen of something sinister.
The Adventurer’s Guild analysis team thoroughly examined the site and detected a massive amount of Dragon Force from Tree Magic.
They concluded that a wandering, extraordinarily powerful dragon species capable of advanced Tree Magic had landed here, created the garden on a whim, and flown off—though this was merely a vague hypothesis.
Since the area was deemed harmless, it was opened to the public. The nearby towns of Holmes and Grakenu, eager to capitalize on the opportunity, developed pathways to the site. It quickly became a famous tourist attraction in the Lyusiten territory.
Named the “Dragon’s Garden,” it was cherished by people for centuries, sustained by the enduring Dragon Force of the Tree Magic.
