Chapter 618: Chapter 398: Everyone is a Villain
"Sinful City... Crime Value..."
A moment later, Erin used her Extraordinary Knowledge to figure out just where she was.
She had somehow entered Forbidden Object B-033: Sinful City!
’I was brought here by that black mist, so Sasha must be here too... Logically, we should have landed in roughly the same place. If Sasha heard the commotion, she would’ve looked outside. She definitely would have called out if she saw me. Since she didn’t, it means she’s not nearby.’
’Who opened that Teleportation Gate? If Sasha isn’t here, she was most likely taken by whoever opened it... Who could break through the Star Association’s Defense Array and open a Teleportation Gate from the inside...?’
As Erin’s thoughts raced, the man on the ground saw she was distracted. He seized the opportunity to scramble to his feet and crawl away in a desperate attempt to flee.
BANG!
Erin didn’t even glance his way. She casually raised her gun, pulled the trigger, and a single bullet landed squarely in his head, sending the man to the Western Heaven.
Then, she patted her head. The Crime Value displayed above it read: 124.
Lacking any point of comparison, Erin had no idea if this Crime Value was high or low.
’First, I’ll go find Sister Xiye.’
Having made up her mind, she looked around and saw the vehicles the thugs had driven. Aside from one outrageously designed heavy armored vehicle, all the others had been destroyed in the firefight.
The heavy armored vehicle was an absolute beast. It was painted a post-apocalyptic gray and covered in thick, welded iron plates riddled with dents from bullets and shells. Erin walked around it. Even a hailstorm of bullets and an explosive barrage had failed to pierce the plates. This wasn’t ordinary steel; it was a super-alloy steel refined with Alchemy.
A sharp, conical metal part, colloquially known as an "iron jaw," was mounted on the front. It was also made of alchemical steel and was indestructible, capable of smashing any oncoming vehicle to pieces.
Six run-flat tires were studded with metal spikes. They were stained with blood. Rotten and fresh scraps of flesh, tattered cloth, and human tissue were stuck in the crevices, emitting a foul stench.
A dark red flag, soaked in blood, was mounted on the roof. Its pole was made of connected human bones, and its base was a collection of skulls tied together with rope.
It looked like a primitive, savage beast of steel—cold and bloodthirsty.
Erin pulled open the ajar door. The battle must have broken out suddenly, as the vehicle hadn’t been turned off. She skillfully shifted gears, slammed on the accelerator, and sped away.
Before long, Erin slowed down. A group of thugs had gathered on the dilapidated street ahead. It seemed to be a gang’s stronghold.
The roar of the armored vehicle’s engine had already caught the thugs’ attention. But when they got a clear look at her, they instantly perked up as if they’d been shot with adrenaline, then charged forward like a horde of zombies, brandishing all sorts of Weapons.
"It’s a pretty little thing!"
"Get her! Get her now!"
"Everyone, go! Don’t let her get away!"
The thugs’ eyes were bloodshot. They looked like a pack of ravenous dogs. They had initially been wary of the armored vehicle, but most of their apprehension vanished when they saw Erin.
With her delicate skin, she looked like a rich family’s child—a flower raised in a greenhouse. A little intimidation and she’d be scared witless. What did it matter if she was driving an armored vehicle? If they just acted viciously enough, the little bitch would definitely be too terrified to do anything but scream, too scared to keep driving!
’They’re all Corrupters... They’re all Corrupters... They’re all Corrupters...’ Erin gripped the steering wheel, repeating the words under her breath. After a moment, she hardened her heart, slammed on the gas, and accelerated abruptly.
BOOM!
The multi-ton armored vehicle plowed into the unsuspecting crowd like a Rampaging bull, instantly carving a bloody path. Countless limbs and corpses were torn apart, and splattering blood covered the windshield. Erin cried out in alarm and frantically turned on the wipers, but the more they swiped, the more the glass was smeared with blood, obscuring most of her vision.
After running over who knows how many people, Erin finally hit the brakes. Seeing through the rearview mirror that some had managed to escape, she quickly shifted into reverse and stomped on the accelerator.
The few thugs who had narrowly escaped death had just scrambled up from the ground when they saw the bloody armored vehicle reversing toward them at Rapid Speed. They screamed and ran, but how could a person outrun a vehicle? In moments, they were run over and crushed to death, turned into meat paste.
The last few surviving thugs immediately scattered in all directions, not daring to show their faces again.
Erin sat in the vehicle, panting for a moment to calm the discomfort from her killing spree.
She had only ever seen such a bloody scene in the B-rate violent movies she watched with Zhou Chen, with limbs flying everywhere and blood flowing like rivers. Even watching them made her feel uneasy. If watching a movie felt that way, it was nothing compared to causing it herself.
’Even if they are Corrupters, I still feel my methods are too cruel. It’s not what a noble lady should do... Perhaps I’ve been too deeply influenced by Zhou Chen and Li Xiye. My moral baseline for this sort of thing is shifting infinitely closer to theirs.’
’In their words, you can’t be soft on your enemies. As long as you can kill them or get useful information, it doesn’t matter how cruel or bloody your methods are. Mercy for your enemy is cruelty to yourself...’
Erin understood the logic, but deep down, she felt she wasn’t suited for this kind of work. She had never liked killing.
But frustratingly, in this violent Sinful City, killing was the only way out.
