Chapter 619: Chapter 398: All Villains (Part 2)
She had no other choice.
Erin patted her cheeks to wake herself up, all while frantically trying to hypnotize herself. ’Erin, just treat this like a Game World. It’s full of mobs, and you’re just grinding mobs. You’re just grinding mobs. You’re just grinding mobs...’
After arriving at Zhou Chen’s home, she had played many, many games. She had been a Judge on an Extinct Planet, a great demon king on the Calamity Continent, and a bandit who would start hacking people up at the slightest disagreement. She had also watched Zhou Chen pull off all sorts of monstrous plays in games. At first, she found it a little hard to accept, but over time, she not only came to terms with it but even joined in with relish. Whenever she was bored in a game, she’d pull out a rocket launcher and blast everything in sight.
After all, it was a Game World, so there wasn’t much psychological pressure in doing evil.
As her tolerance grew, some of her views naturally and subtly changed. If this were just an extremely realistic live-action game, then there’d be nothing to worry about. A bloodbath would be perfectly fine.
And just then, a thought clicked into place—while this wasn’t a real game, the Corrupters were real "mobs." They would even respawn endlessly in the middle of Sinful City!
Just like NPCs that couldn’t die.
At this thought, the guilt in Erin’s heart vanished instantly, leaving her unburdened.
She let out a breath and composed herself. Taking a rag from her storage space, she got out, quickly wiped the blood from the windshield, then got back in, stepped on the gas, and headed toward the distant Thundercloud District.
Erin’s journey was far from smooth; one could even say it was fraught with disaster.
Because she looked so utterly harmless—giving off the impression of a frail, timid, aristocratic girl who couldn’t even truss a chicken—any thug who saw her would get instantly excited, letting out strange cries as they rushed over to cause trouble.
In just four kilometers, she was stopped by three different gangs. Fortunately, the armored car was sturdy enough and heavy enough to simply ram its way out of their encirclement.
But immediately after, the roar of car engines came from behind. Erin glanced in her rearview mirror and saw several modified, wasteland-style Chariots speeding toward her.
"You want to race me?" Erin couldn’t help but laugh. Her driving skills had been personally taught by Li Xiye. She’d even found the time to compete in a Formula One race once!
Although she’d flipped her car halfway through, her skills were definitely up to par.
Besides, this armored car was loaded with equipment. A single glance told her it had seen plenty of car battles against other gangs.
With ample Artifacts and solid experience, she wasn’t afraid of the pursuers behind her at all.
Erin calmly pressed a button, and caltrops scattered from both sides of the armored car. One Chariot failed to dodge in time, its tires getting punctured. It spun out of control, rolled over, and exploded with a BOOM, becoming a massive Fireball. The Chariot behind it couldn’t brake in time and crashed right into it, triggering a secondary explosion.
VROOOOM!!!!
The savage roar of engines sounded as the two Chariots behind her spewed blue flames from their rears. They suddenly accelerated, pulling up alongside her.
Erin pressed another button. With a ZING, spikes shot out from the puncture-proof tires and began to spin at high speed. She yanked the steering wheel to the left and rammed into the car beside her.
BANG!
The tires of the Chariot on her left were instantly shredded. The whole vehicle lost control, rolled over several times, and exploded violently, sending metal parts flying everywhere.
THUD!
Suddenly, a powerful push came from behind as a Chariot rammed her. Jolted by the impact, Erin quickly steadied the steering wheel, managing to keep the car from flipping with delicate adjustments.
Just then, a ruin appeared on the street ahead—the remains of an office building that completely blocked the road. She had to go around; even an armored car would be destroyed on impact, killing its driver.
Erin slammed on the gas, her tires screeching against the pavement and kicking up white smoke. But the Chariot behind her was flooring it, pushing her armored car forward.
Another Chariot pulled up beside them, keeping some distance. Someone climbed out onto its roof and began firing wildly at her armored car. A shower of sparks erupted as bullet holes appeared on the bulletproof glass.
Erin calmly pressed a button and stomped on the gas. A second later, a brilliant azure flame burst from the armored car’s rear exhaust ports. The blinding light made the Chariot driver instinctively shut his eyes, causing him to swerve.
Using the boost and the rear Chariot driver’s mistake, Erin successfully broke free. She then turned off the accelerator, fished a frosty Rune Stone out of her Storage Artifact, crushed it, and yelled, "Solid Ice!"
A thick layer of ice instantly formed on the road ahead, shrouded in a cold mist.
Erin expertly maneuvered the car. As she hit the ice, she sent the heavy armored car into a drift, using the slippery surface to spin it like a top toward the surrounding Chariots.
The metal cone on its front became a lethal weapon, tearing a Chariot to pieces. Amidst the shriek of tortured metal, the thugs inside were ripped apart.
As the ice disappeared, Erin quickly slowed down, keeping the vehicle from tipping over. Once she had repositioned, she pressed another button, scattering a handful of micro-bombs that destroyed the last two Chariots behind her.
"Woohoo!"
Seeing the flames leaping into the sky in her rearview mirror, Erin couldn’t help but cheer. This felt amazing!
After dealing with her pursuers, Erin drove on. However, she still encountered thugs blocking her path, so to save time, she simply found a few iron chains, tied up a group of them, and dragged them behind her car to intimidate any others.
The effect was immediate. No other thugs dared to cause trouble.
Soon, Erin drove into a scene of carnage, a mountain of corpses in a sea of blood.
This district seemed to be a major thug stronghold, but now the ground was littered with bodies, all of them slaughtered cleanly and cruelly.
And in the center of that Purgatory of corpses, Zhou Chen turned his head. His cold, murderous eyes looked over, and then he froze.
"Erin?"
’Zhou Chen...’ Erin’s heart leaped with joy. She quickly got out of the car and started jogging over to hug him, but the next second, Zhou Chen raised the Dream Light and Shadow in his hand and questioned her coldly:
"Who are you?"
Erin froze.
"Erin wouldn’t be in a place like this, and she’d never do something like that." Zhou Chen looked at the mangled chunks of flesh being dragged behind the car—it was a gruesome sight. "Are you an assassin sent by Dupe?"
Erin didn’t refute him. Instead, her face darkened, and she ground her teeth in displeasure. "You don’t even recognize me!"
"..."
Stunned, Zhou Chen finally snapped out of it, his eyes widening in shock. "What are you doing here?"
Erin didn’t throw a tantrum. She told Zhou Chen the whole story, though her grievance was still written all over her face. Zhou Chen, admitting he was in the wrong, quickly apologized. It really was inexcusable of him not to recognize her right away.
"I guess I was just seeing red," Zhou Chen said, patting his head.
He had cleared out a few thug hideouts. His current crime value was: 1807.
Erin patted her own head, curious to see her crime value.
Her crime value was: 2314.
"Huh?" Zhou Chen couldn’t believe his eyes. He quickly rubbed them, thinking he was hallucinating.
"What did you do?" After confirming it wasn’t a hallucination, he yelled as if he’d seen a ghost.
When Erin saw that her crime value was even higher than Zhou Chen’s, she was speechless. She stammered, "I... I just... I just killed a few people, that’s all. How could it be higher than yours..."
"That’s all?" Zhou Chen pointed at the corpses being dragged behind the car and demanded, "You call *this* ’that’s all’?"
"It was to intimidate the others! Otherwise, they’d just keep bothering me," Erin said pitifully.
Zhou Chen scratched his head. A moment later, he patted Erin’s shoulder and said earnestly, "You’ve finally grown up."
"...So does this mean you guys have completely corrupted me?" Erin asked in despair.
"From the looks of it, yes."
