Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart
Chapter 195 Did my grandson really cheat on Daisy?
Chapter 195: Chapter 195 Did my grandson really cheat on Daisy?
Grandpa James stared at them. His hands trembled slightly. He had come here because he thought Daisy might be sick.
He had imagined finding his granddaughter-in-law resting after exhausting herself preparing his birthday celebration, perhaps with Cedric sitting beside her and taking care of her. Instead, he had walked into this. His own grandson with another woman. On his birthday.
James’s eyes became red with anger. "Dress yourself first!" His voice shook with fury, each word full of contempt.
Cedric immediately lowered his eyes. "Grandpa, I—"
"I said dress yourself!"
Cedric fell silent. His shoulders slumped and he looked down at the floor, unable to meet his grandfather’s gaze.
James turned away before he could say anything else. He couldn’t bear to look at the scene for another second. His shoulders were stiff as he walked out of the room, his expression filled with anger and disbelief.
The moment he stepped into the hallway, he stopped. His eyes burned with tears of disappointment. He pressed his lips together, trying to steady himself. His chest heaved with uneven breaths.
Cedric... His grandson. The boy he had loved and trusted more than almost anyone. How could he have done this? And Daisy... Sweet Daisy, who had spent the entire day running around making sure everything for his birthday was perfect. She had worked until she was exhausted. She had barely complained. Not to mention, she was such a pure and sweet soul.
And this was what Cedric had done behind her back?
James’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. He shook his head slowly, unable to believe what he had witnessed. "Did he really...?" His voice broke slightly. "Did my grandson really cheat on Daisy?"
Rafael quietly stepped into the hallway after him. The solemn expression on his face was no longer entirely an act.
Seeing Grandpa James standing there with trembling shoulders made his heart tighten. The old man’s back was hunched, his hands still clenched at his sides and his entire frame seemed to shake.
He knew the old man had to be hurting terribly after witnessing something like that, especially on his own birthday but a small, stubborn part of Rafael still believed that the truth was better than allowing Daisy to remain trapped in a marriage where she was being betrayed.
If this finally opened Grandpa James’s eyes, perhaps Daisy would finally be free from Cedric’s shackles.
"Grandpa..."
Rafael moved closer and gently wrapped an arm around the old man’s shoulders. His touch was careful, respectful as if he was afraid James might shatter.
James didn’t respond immediately. His body was trembling, his shoulders shaking with suppressed emotion. He lowered his head, staring at the floor as though he was desperately trying to process what he had just witnessed. His breathing was uneven and his hands were still clenched at his sides.
"I can’t believe it..." he whispered. His voice was filled with disbelief, the words barely audible. "I simply can’t believe it."
Rafael’s expression softened. He rubbed Grandpa James’s shoulder slowly, offering whatever comfort he could. "I know, Grandpa."
James swallowed hard, his throat tight with emotion. "I trusted him with Daisy."
Rafael fell silent. He didn’t know what to say.
James looked toward the bedroom door but immediately turned his face away again, as if the sight of it burned him. "How could Cedric do this?" he murmured. "After everything Daisy has done for this family... after everything that girl has endured..."
His voice trembled. "She was here all day. She worked herself exhausted just to make this birthday perfect. She was running around making sure everyone was comfortable, making sure everything was arranged properly and she never once complained."
Rafael’s jaw tightened. He knew. He had watched Daisy work throughout the day. He had seen how tired she was, the dark circles forming under her eyes, the way she had to pause occasionally to catch her breath. And yet she had still smiled whenever Grandpa James spoke to her, had still found the energy to make sure everything was just right.
James closed his eyes, his face twisted with pain. "What am I supposed to tell her?" His voice was barely a whisper. "How would she react when she learns what has happened?"
James slowly shook his head, his movements heavy with exhaustion and sorrow. "I don’t even know how I can look that girl in the eyes."
Rafael tightened his arm around Grandpa James, pulling him into a gentle embrace.
"Grandpa!"
Cedric hurried out of the bedroom, his face filled with anxiety. His hair was still slightly disheveled and there was a nervousness in his eyes that James had never seen on him before. His shirt was only half-buttoned and his hands trembled slightly at his sides.
"Grandpa, wait..."
James slowly turned around. The warmth that usually appeared in his eyes whenever he looked at Cedric was gone.
His expression was cold, his jaw tense and the disappointment in his eyes was almost unbearable. The old man’s shoulders were still trembling but now it was from anger rather than sorrow.
Cedric stopped a few steps away. "I... I..." For once, words failed him. He had always been confident, quick with excuses and capable of handling almost any situation but standing in front of his grandfather after being caught with Jessica, he couldn’t find a single explanation that didn’t sound pathetic.
"Grandpa, it’s not..." He stopped again. Not what? Not what it looked like? He knew perfectly well how impossible that sounded.
James simply stared at him, his eyes cold.
Cedric swallowed hard, his throat dry. "I can explain."
James’s voice was low and painfully calm. "Can you?"
Cedric’s lips parted, but nothing came out. His mind raced, searching for words but every excuse he thought of sounded hollow and pathetic.
Before he could gather his thoughts, footsteps sounded behind him. Jessica appeared from the bedroom, now properly dressed but visibly nervous. She kept her eyes lowered as she stood a little behind Cedric, her hands clasped tightly in front of her.
James’s eyes shifted toward her. The moment he saw Jessica, his expression became even colder. His disappointment deepened, and his jaw tightened.
"So you really were with her."
Jessica’s face paled, the color draining from her cheeks. "Mr. Evermont, I..."
"Don’t." James raised his hand, stopping her. "I don’t want an explanation from you right now."
Cedric looked at his grandfather helplessly. "Grandpa..."
James turned his cold gaze back toward him. "Don’t call me that as if nothing happened."
