Chapter 196: Chapter 196 I regret having a grandson like you!
Cedric flinched. Grandpa James had never spoken to him like this before. Not once. His grandfather had always been patient, always willing to listen, always believing the best in him.
"You knew you were married," James continued, his voice trembling with anger. "You knew Daisy was your wife. You knew exactly what your responsibilities were and yet you... you..." He couldn’t even finish the sentence, his voice breaking with emotion.
Cedric lowered his head, unable to meet his grandfather’s eyes. "I’m sorry."
"Sorry?" James gave a bitter laugh, the sound hollow and pained. "You think one word is enough?"
Cedric clenched his fists at his sides. "I didn’t mean for you to find out like this."
James stared at him in disbelief, his eyes widening with shock. "That is what you’re worried about?"
Cedric froze, realizing how his words had sounded.
James shook his head slowly, his expression one of profound disappointment. "No, Cedric. You should be worried about the woman you betrayed."
At the mention of Daisy, Cedric’s expression changed. For some reason, his chest tightened.
"Do you even understand what you’ve done to her?" James spoke, his voice thick with emotion.
Cedric couldn’t answer. His throat felt tight and the words refused to come.
And that silence was enough for James. He turned away from him, his eyes still red, his shoulders trembling. "I don’t know how I raised such a man."
He pressed a hand against his chest, looking as though the shock had become too much for him.
The words hit Cedric like a physical blow, and all the color drained from his face. His breath caught in his throat and for a moment, he looked as though he had been struck.
"Grandpa..."
"Don’t call me Grandpa!" James suddenly shouted, his voice trembling with anger and hurt. His entire body shook with the force of his emotions and his eyes blazed with a anger that Cedric had never seen before. "I regret having a grandson like you!"
Cedric mouth opened, but no words came out. He had never heard his grandfather speak to him like this. Never.
James’s eyes had turned red, and his breathing had become uneven as he stared at Cedric with an expression filled with disappointment. His hands clenched at his sides, his knuckles white, and his shoulders heaved with the effort of containing his emotions.
"You... you..." His voice broke for a moment before he clenched his jaw. "How will I show my face to those pure eyes of hers?"
He pressed a hand against his chest, looking as though the shock had become too much for him. His face twisted with pain, and he swayed slightly on his feet, his balance faltering.
Rafael immediately noticed.
"Grandpa, calm down first," he said, reaching toward him and placing a steadying hand on his arm. His voice showed genuine concern. His eyes scanned the old man’s face, checking for any sign of distress.
But before James could respond, Jessica suddenly laughed.
Everyone turned toward her. It was sharp, cold, and completely out of place in the tense hallway. It echoed off the walls, grating against their ears.
"Oh, Grandpa James," she said with a smug smile, her red lips curving upward. Her eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "You really think Daisy is some kind of sweet little white flower? A pure and innocent soul?"
James slowly looked at her. His eyes narrowed, and his expression hardened even more.
Jessica folded her arms, her posture confident. "She isn’t. She’s cheating on Cedric too."
"What the hell are you saying?"
Rafael’s expression hardened instantly, his eyes flashing with anger. His hand tightened on James’s arm.
James stared at Jessica in disbelief. His mouth opened slightly, but no words came out at first. He looked as though he had been struck.
"Do you even know who you’re talking about?" he demanded, his voice gaining strength despite his earlier weakness. "Daisy?"
His voice became firm, resolute. "I know that girl from the bottom of my heart. She would never do something like that."
He looked at Jessica and Cedric with open disgust. "Never."
Rafael frowned. Something about Jessica’s sudden accusation felt wrong. He watched her face carefully, noticing the smugness in her eyes and the strange confidence with which she was making such a serious claim. His instincts told him something was off.
"If you don’t believe me," Jessica said, lifting her chin defiantly, "why don’t you check Daisy’s room?"
James’s expression changed. His brows drew together, and a flicker of doubt crossed his face. Daisy’s room... wasn’t that where Cedric and Daisy slept together? However, he didn’t say anything for now as he focused on what Jessica was saying.
Jessica continued, her voice dripping with false concern. "I saw it with my own eyes. Daisy was clinging to some man, and then she took him into her room."
Rafael’s eyes narrowed. His voice was dangerously calm. "Who?"
Jessica glanced at him, caught off guard by the question. "I don’t know."
"Then how do you know they went into her room?"
"I saw them."
Rafael’s suspicion deepened. His jaw tightened, and his eyes bore into hers.
Jessica had actually mixed Daisy’s juice with the drugs she had managed to get hold of earlier. Her original plan had been simple: make Daisy lose control, then expose her in front of Cedric and Grandpa James so everyone would believe she was the one who had behaved shamefully.
But somehow, everything had gone terribly wrong. Instead of Daisy being caught, Jessica and Cedric had been discovered together. Now Grandpa James was looking at her with such disgust that she could barely contain her anger.
How dare he look at me like that?
Her fingers curled against her dress.
Just wait, Grandpa.
A cold smile almost appeared on her lips.
Once I marry Cedric, I’ll show you exactly how I’ll deal with you.
She quickly hid the expression and turned back toward James. "I’m not lying."
Rafael stepped forward, his voice becoming dangerously calm. "Then let’s check."
Jessica’s confidence faltered for the briefest moment. Her eyes flickered and her fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress. Rafael noticed. His eyes sharpened.
