Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart
Chapter 252 Can I ask you something?
Chapter 252: Chapter 252 Can I ask you something?
Mateo answered before Daisy could gesture.
"She’s Daisy."
The woman waited.
When Daisy offered a polite smile, she frowned.
"That’s it?"
Mateo’s expression darkened. "What do you mean?"
"Does she not speak?"
"No. Daisy is mute."
The tutor tilted her head.
"Really?"
There was no sympathy in her voice, only curiosity of the most unpleasant kind.
Daisy’s smile faded slightly.
Mateo noticed, but before he could say anything, the woman continued.
"So how exactly do you communicate with people? Do you write everything down? Or do we all have to learn your little hand language?"
Silence.
Mateo stared at her.
"Are you serious right now?"
"What?" She raised her eyebrows innocently. "I asked a question."
"You know exactly what you’re doing."
"Oh, please. Don’t be so sensitive." She turned back to Daisy. "Can you even understand what I’m saying?"
Daisy looked at her for a moment.
Then she picked up her phone and typed a message.
She turned the screen toward the woman.
Yes, I can understand you perfectly.
The tutor read it.
"Well, that’s convenient."
Her tone made it clear that she meant the opposite.
Daisy slowly lowered her phone.
Mateo stood up.
"That’s enough. You can insult me all you want but don’t talk to her like that."
The woman looked him up and down.
"How noble. Perhaps if you spent half as much energy defending people as you do complaining, you’d actually learn something."
"You’re supposed to be my tutor, not someone who comes here to humiliate me!"
"And I’m supposed to be teaching a student who has the intellectual capacity to learn. Unfortunately, we can’t all get what we want."
Mateo’s jaw tightened.
Daisy had never seen him look so angry.
The tutor gathered her belongings with exaggerated patience, as though she were the only reasonable person in the room.
"I don’t appreciate my time being wasted. If your family wants to pay me to sit here while you throw tantrums, that’s their business, but I have better things to do."
She stood and adjusted her handbag.
"Have Sir Alessio transfer my payment for today’s session. I expect to be compensated for my time, regardless of your inability to benefit from it."
Mateo let out a disbelieving laugh.
"You insulted me for an hour and now you want to be paid?"
"I provided my time and expertise. Whether you were capable of learning anything is hardly my responsibility."
With that, she walked toward the door.
Before leaving, she glanced at Daisy one last time.
"Good luck with him. You’ll need it."
The door slammed shut.
For several seconds, Mateo remained standing in the middle of the living room, staring at the place where the woman had disappeared.
Then he slowly turned toward Daisy.
"Did that just happen?"
Daisy pressed her lips together.
Mateo dragged both hands down his face.
She watched him slump against the sofa, still visibly irritated.
She gently rubbed his arms, trying to comfort him.
"Forget it," he muttered. "I don’t even want to think about her anymore."
Daisy gave him a reassuring smile and gestured for him to sit properly.
Mateo reluctantly straightened up while she went to the kitchen and returned with a glass of water.
"Thank you," he murmured, accepting it.
He drank half the glass in one go, then leaned back against the sofa with a long sigh. His expression was still sour, but at least he wasn’t about to explode anymore.
Daisy sat beside him.
She pointed at the open textbook on the table, then looked at him questioningly.
What are you studying?
Mateo followed her gaze.
His face immediately twisted into a look of pure misery.
"Science."
Daisy blinked.
He looked at her as though she had just reminded him of the worst thing happening in his life.
"Don’t look at me like that. I know it’s supposed to be easy, but apparently my brain didn’t get the memo."
Daisy couldn’t help smiling.
She reached for the textbook and opened it, curious to see what had caused so much trouble.
Her eyes moved across the page.
Then she turned to the next one and the next.
Mateo watched her anxiously.
"What?"
Daisy shook her head, indicating that nothing was wrong, and continued reading.
The Chapter was about the basic principles of physics. There were explanations, diagrams, formulas, and several solved examples. She could see why someone might struggle if the concepts hadn’t been explained clearly.
After a moment, she turned toward Mateo and pointed to one of the diagrams.
Then she gestured for him to explain which part he didn’t understand.
Mateo leaned closer, his expression becoming slightly embarrassed.
"That part. And the formula underneath it. I keep mixing them up."
Daisy studied the page again.
Then she picked up her phone and began typing.
Show me what you understood first.
Mateo read the message and frowned thoughtfully.
"Well, I understand the first part..."
He began explaining what he remembered, occasionally stopping to check the textbook.
Daisy listened carefully, following his explanation. When he got something right, she nodded. When he made a mistake, she pointed to the relevant section and encouraged him to try again.
Slowly, Mateo began to relax.
After going through a few more examples, Daisy pointed to another question and gestured for Mateo to solve it himself.
He stared at the page, scratched his head, and began working through the steps.
A few seconds later, his eyes widened.
"Wait..."
He checked his answer again.
Then he looked at Daisy.
"Wait, I got it!"
Daisy smiled and nodded encouragingly.
Mateo immediately grabbed the textbook and looked at the next question. He solved that one too, then flipped to another page as if he couldn’t believe what was happening.
Finally, he slapped the book shut.
"THIS IS TOO EASY!"
Daisy jumped slightly at his sudden shout.
Mateo turned toward her, his eyes shining with excitement.
"Daisy, you need to be my tutor! You actually make me understand things without even saying a single word to me!"
His voice grew emotional toward the end. To his own embarrassment, his eyes began to water.
Daisy stared at him for a second before breaking into a warm smile.
"Oh my God," Mateo sniffled, rubbing his eyes. "Don’t look at me like that. I’m serious!"
She was still smiling when he suddenly wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you, Daisy."
His voice was muffled against her shoulder.
"I thought I was just stupid. But I can actually understand this stuff!"
Daisy gently patted his back, touched by how genuinely happy he was. She had only helped him work through a few questions, yet he looked as though she had performed a miracle.
When Mateo finally pulled away, he looked at her with slightly reddened eyes.
Then his expression changed.
He tilted his head, studying her face with an almost suspicious amount of affection.
"Daisy?"
She looked at him questioningly.
He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly looking shy.
"Can I ask you something?"
