When the creature heard Ashwatthama’s question, it remained silent for several moments.

Then, instead of answering, its lips slowly curled upward.

A chuckle escaped its throat.

Ashwatthama’s eyes narrowed.

The sound quickly grew louder, turning into a disturbing laugh that echoed through the temple grounds.

The creature’s body began trembling violently, yet it continued laughing as though Ashwatthama’s presence amused it.

Only then did Ashwatthama notice the dark discoloration spreading beneath its skin.

The venom of the Naaga that had bitten it had already travelled throughout its body.

Black veins had spread from the wound across its chest, neck and face, while its skin had begun losing its color.

The creature’s breathing became increasingly difficult, but even as its life slipped away, the smile never disappeared.

"You haven’t answered me,"

Ashwatthama said coldly.

The creature merely laughed harder.

One of the Naagas lowered its enormous head beside the prisoner, its slit eyes watching the creature carefully.

Even the serpent seemed to recognize that whatever poison it had injected was already beyond the creature’s ability to resist.

Ashwatthama stepped closer.

"Who sent you?"

The creature’s laughter suddenly became louder.

"Why did you attack Maharaja Devara?"

No answer.

"How many of you are there?"

Still nothing.

Instead, the creature raised its head with the last strength remaining in its body.

Its eyes were already beginning to lose their focus, but there was still an unsettling conviction within them.

Then it finally spoke.

"You think... this was an attack?"

Ashwatthama’s expression hardened.

The creature coughed, a dark substance spilling from the corner of its mouth, before forcing itself to continue.

"This... was only the beginning."

Its body convulsed.

"The whole of Bhulok..."

It struggled to breathe, yet another laugh escaped its throat.

"...will soon be drenched in the blood of everyone who dares oppose our master."

Ashwatthama stared at it.

"Who is your master?"

The creature’s eyes widened.

For a brief moment, a strange fanaticism appeared within them.

Then it laughed one final time.

A violent tremor passed through its body.

Its head dropped.

The laughter stopped.

The creature was dead.

Silence descended over the clearing.

Ashwatthama remained motionless, staring at the corpse while the Naagas slowly loosened their coils around it. The warning echoed through his mind.

The whole of Bhulok will soon be drenched in blood.

He clenched his fists.

This had not been an isolated assassination attempt.

Someone was preparing something much larger.

And whoever stood behind these creatures had been confident enough to send them against Devara while the king was in deep penance, believing that even if their servant died, the message would still reach its destination.

Ashwatthama slowly turned toward the enormous Naagas.

"We need to find out where they came from."

The largest of the serpents lifted its head, its golden eyes narrowing toward the darkness beyond the temple.

Ashwatthama followed its gaze.

Far beyond the kingdom’s walls, somewhere beyond the forests and mountains, something had already begun moving.

And neither Ashwatthama nor the Naagas yet knew that the creature’s final words were not a threat.

They were a warning.

Meanwhile, inside Gandhari’s chamber, the long ordeal continued.

One by one, another child was brought into the world, and with every birth, the physicians announced the growing count.

The chamber had long since lost track of time.

Lamps continued burning, attendants moved constantly between the physicians and Gandhari, and the women surrounding her refused to leave her side despite the exhaustion that had settled over everyone.

Then finally, the physician looked down at the newborn child in his arms and announced,

"One hundred."

For several heartbeats, nobody spoke.

The words seemed almost impossible to believe.

"One hundred children..."

Satyavati whispered, her eyes widening.

The wives surrounding Gandhari exchanged relieved smiles, some of them nearly collapsing with exhaustion themselves.

One hundred births had taken place, and every single one of those children was alive.

The chamber filled with a mixture of relief, joy and disbelief as the newborns were carefully carried away to be cleaned and attended to.

Gandhari herself sank back against the cushions, breathing heavily.

"It’s over,"

One of the physicians said gently.

"The hundredth child has been delivered."

Several women immediately smiled.

After three and a half years of pregnancy, after carrying a hundred children within her, Gandhari had finally reached what everyone believed was the end.

Satyavati squeezed her hand.

"You did it, child."

Gandhari closed her eyes, exhausted beyond words.

Then suddenly, her entire body stiffened.

Her eyes opened.

A sharp pain coursed through her abdomen.

She gripped Satyavati’s hand so tightly that the older woman’s expression changed immediately.

"Gandhari?"

Gandhari gasped.

"Something... something is happening again."

The chamber fell silent.

The physicians exchanged confused looks.

"What?" one of them whispered.

Gandhari cried out as another contraction struck her.

"Again?" one of the attendants exclaimed.

The physician hurried back to her side, his expression becoming increasingly bewildered as he examined her.

"Rajmata... there is still another child."

The words stunned everyone.

"Another?" Satyavati asked.

The physician nodded slowly.

Gandhari’s breathing became heavier as the pain intensified.

"But... the count is already one hundred,"

One of the women whispered.

"Apparently,"

Another physician replied, still struggling to understand what was happening,

"one hundred was not the final count."

Gandhari could barely respond.

She simply held onto Satyavati’s hand and gathered whatever strength remained within her.

"Just one more,"

She whispered through clenched teeth.

"If there is another child... then I will bring this one into the world too."

Bhudevi, who had remained nearby, stepped forward once again and placed a reassuring hand upon Gandhari’s shoulder.

"You have endured this long, Gandhari. You can endure this final birth."

The delivery resumed.

Minutes later, another cry filled the chamber.

But this cry was different.

The physician carefully lifted the newborn child into his arms, and for a moment he simply stared.

The women immediately noticed his expression.

"What is it?" Satyavati asked.

The physician looked toward Gandhari.

"The child..."

He paused, almost as though he needed a moment to comprehend it himself.

"It is a girl."

Silence.

For the first time since the delivery had begun, nobody knew what to say.

The previous one hundred children had all been boys.

This child was different.

A daughter.

The physician gently brought the newborn closer, revealing the tiny girl wrapped within the cloth.

She was crying softly, her tiny hands moving instinctively as she entered the world.

Gandhari, exhausted beyond measure, slowly opened her eyes.

"A girl..." she whispered.

A tired smile appeared upon her face.

After one hundred sons, she had been given a daughter.

Satyavati’s eyes softened as she looked at the newborn.

"Your little sister has arrived."

The other women gathered around them, their exhaustion momentarily forgotten as they gazed at the tiny girl.

Bhudevi smiled.

"Perhaps the earth itself decided that after giving you one hundred sons, you deserved a daughter to bring another kind of joy into your family."

Gandhari looked at her daughter for several long moments.

Despite all the pain, despite the years of waiting, despite the exhaustion that had pushed her body to its absolute limit, something peaceful settled within her.

She had carried one hundred and one children.

One hundred sons.

And now, one daughter.

The little girl let out another soft cry.

Gandhari smiled weakly.

"Welcome to the world, my daughter."

Outside the chamber, nobody yet knew that the final child had been born.

Devara was still deep within his penance at the temple, praying for the safety of Gandhari and his children.

He had no idea that the family he had been praying for had just grown by one more member.

And unlike the hundred sons whose births had already changed the kingdom forever, this little girl had arrived as an unexpected final Chapter to Gandhari’s extraordinary pregnancy.

Gandhari continued staring at the tiny face of her daughter, her exhausted eyes slowly softening as the newborn’s little fingers curled and uncurled beneath the cloth.

After everything she had endured, after three and a half years of carrying her children, after the endless hours of pain and the birth of one hundred sons, this little girl had arrived as the final surprise she had never expected.

Gandhari could barely keep her eyes open anymore, but she forced herself to remain awake for a few more moments, wanting to memorize the face of the daughter she had fought so hard to bring into the world.

"My little girl..." she whispered faintly, her voice barely audible.

The newborn gave a tiny cry, and Gandhari’s lips curved into a tired smile.

Satyavati watched her carefully, realizing that Gandhari had nothing left in her body.

Bhudevi also understood what was happening, while the physicians continued examining Gandhari and ensuring that there were no complications following the delivery.

"You can rest now, child,"

Satyavati whispered, gently stroking Gandhari’s hair.

Gandhari looked once more at her daughter.

Her eyelids became heavier.

The strength that had carried her through the final delivery finally disappeared, and her body relaxed completely against the cushions.

Her eyes slowly closed, and within moments, Gandhari slipped into unconsciousness, not because anything had gone wrong, but because exhaustion had finally claimed the woman who had endured more than anyone in that chamber could comprehend.

"Gandhari!" one of the women called anxiously.

The physician immediately checked her pulse and breathing.

A few tense moments passed.

Then he smiled.

"She is all right. She has simply lost consciousness from exhaustion."

Relief washed through the chamber.

Satyavati released a breath she had been holding and gently placed her hand against Gandhari’s forehead.

"Let her sleep," she said softly.

"She has earned it."

Bhudevi nodded as she looked at the sleeping mother and then at the newborn daughter resting peacefully nearby.

For the first time in years, there was no pain in Gandhari’s expression.

Only peace.

Around her lay the beginning of a family unlike any the kingdom had ever seen, one hundred sons and one daughter, while their mother finally slept after completing the extraordinary journey that had begun three and a half years ago.
