Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 493: Without Nathan Fawcett
The adoration for Anne Sutton was written all over his face.
Sharon Sutton had just been wondering why Nathan Fawcett had asked her to come. Now, seeing how affectionate the two were, the last sliver of hope in her heart was shattered.
Sharon Sutton stood to the side, unsure whether to sit or stand.
Mrs. Sutton saw her and said, “Come and sit down!”
Sharon Sutton walked over to a seat and sat down.
Anne Sutton glanced at her but didn’t initiate a conversation.
She could feel that Anne Sutton’s attitude was much colder than before.
It was as if Anne Sutton had no intention of even acknowledging her anymore.
Sharon Sutton sat down and stared at the full table of food, not knowing where to begin.
Caleb Summers, sitting nearby, looked at the woman and said, “Nathan said he could arrange a job for you at the Fawcett Group in Westhaven. He wanted to ask if you’d like to go back.”
Hearing this, Sharon Sutton bit her lip. ‘They’re trying to send me away,’ she knew it, of course.
She said, “I want to stay and find a job in Veridia.”
She wanted to stay here and not go anywhere else.
Caleb Summers said, “What kind of work are you planning to find?”
Sharon Sutton didn’t understand why it was Caleb Summers talking to her about this.
She looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, “Is this President Fawcett’s idea?”
Nathan Fawcett heard Sharon Sutton’s question. “I only thought of arranging a job for you because you’re Anne’s sister. Of course, you’re free to refuse.”
Sharon Sutton said, “I’m not going to Westhaven. I’m staying here. My mother is here, so I don’t want to go anywhere.”
Seeing her daughter use her as an excuse, Mrs. Sutton said, “I’m fine here. I don’t need anyone to take care of me.”
She knew exactly what Sharon Sutton was up to.
‘She probably thinks that by staying in Veridia, she’ll have more opportunities to get close to Nathan Fawcett.’
Mrs. Sutton really hoped she would leave, lest she stay here and do something else she couldn’t take back.
Sharon Sutton said, “You’re the ones who told me to come, and now you’re the ones telling me to leave. I’m an adult. I have my own freedom.”
Mrs. Sutton said, “If you want to stay here, fine. But you have to move out of the house.”
Hearing her mother say this, Sharon Sutton’s eyes widened. She never expected her own mother would tell her to move out.
Sharon Sutton wondered if she had misheard.
She looked at Mrs. Sutton, her eyes full of disbelief.
Mrs. Sutton said, “If you can’t do that, then just go back to Westhaven obediently! If you insist on staying in Veridia, we won’t help you from now on. You’ll have to figure out how to survive on your own.”
Hearing her mother’s words, Sharon Sutton nodded. “Fine. It’s not like I can’t survive.”
After saying that, Sharon Sutton didn’t even touch her food. She stood up and went upstairs to pack her things.
Anne Sutton watched this unfold without a word.
Anna Linden’s gaze fell on Mrs. Sutton. “She’s definitely going to hate you for saying that.”
Mrs. Sutton knew all too well what was going through Sharon Sutton’s mind.
Hearing Anna Linden’s words, Mrs. Sutton sighed. “If she can really make it out there on her own, maybe she’ll learn a thing or two.”
It was because Anne Sutton was always there to bail her out that she thought life was too easy. That’s why she had the energy to set her sights on Nathan Fawcett.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, “If she doesn’t want to go, just let her stay here.”
Anne Sutton said, “Whatever. I don’t want to get involved in her business anymore.”
‘I don’t want to interfere anymore!’
She didn’t want to do things that would just make people resent her, all in the name of caring for Sharon Sutton.
In fact, not worrying about her was a huge relief.
Unlike now, where the more she did, the more Sharon just got annoyed.
Nathan Fawcett nodded upon hearing her words.
Soon, Sharon Sutton had packed her things. She didn’t have much. She left behind many of the new items she’d gotten here, taking only a small suitcase with her as she came downstairs.
Seeing that everyone was still eating, she dragged her suitcase and walked straight out, officially moving out of Anne Sutton’s place.
After Sharon Sutton left, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, “Let’s move back to the Linden Family’s house.”
Now that Sharon Sutton was gone, she probably wouldn’t have the nerve to go back to the Linden Family’s house anyway.
Anne Sutton nodded at his words. She looked at Mrs. Sutton, a little worried about her mother. Mrs. Sutton said, “I’m fine. I’ll take good care of myself.”
“We have a housekeeper at home, so she’ll be with me. And I’m usually at the restaurant anyway. There’s really nothing to worry about.”
Anne Sutton said, “Don’t push yourself when you’re not feeling well. You always make me worry.”
“Don’t worry!” Mrs. Sutton said. “Don’t keep running over here. I’ll call you if anything comes up. You have work, so spend the rest of your time on the kids. Look at Ian…”
Anne Sutton had a busy job and didn’t have much time for her children to begin with. Having to look after her mother meant she had even less time for them.
Mrs. Sutton didn’t want to become a burden to Anne Sutton.
After settling things with Mrs. Sutton, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett took the children and returned to the Linden Family’s house.
The two children had been staying at Anne Sutton’s place recently, which meant they had to wake up very early every morning. Nathan Fawcett also had to get up early to take them to school, which was exhausting.
Now that they were back at the Linden Family’s house, they could sleep in a little longer in the mornings.
After moving out of Anne Sutton’s place, Sharon Sutton found a hotel and checked in for the time being.
After graduating, she had been with David Hayes the entire time—marrying him, having a child—and had very few opportunities to work.
Only now was she truly starting on her own path.
This was also pretty much her first time looking for a job.
She interviewed at the jewelry company under the Linden Group that she had applied to earlier but was rejected on her first try. She then applied for a few other jobs.
Although she had graduated from a decent university, she hadn’t worked in a long time. Back in school, she was with David Hayes and spent all her time dating, so she barely even did an internship.
Because she had no real-world experience, interviewers saw her as a naive, pampered young woman and didn’t hire her.
Back at the hotel, Sharon Sutton felt frustrated. She looked at the small balance remaining on her card.
The hotel was expensive, and staying there every day meant she was struggling financially.
It made her think back to her days at Mrs. Sutton’s place.
With nothing to do in the afternoon, she went to her mother’s restaurant. Standing at the entrance, she saw people coming and going. She wanted to go back to her mother, but she felt too ashamed.
Anne Sutton pulled her car over when she saw Sharon Sutton standing at the entrance. She said, “What are you doing here?”
Sharon Sutton turned her head and stiffened when she saw it was Anne.
‘I can’t believe I just wanted to come take a look and got caught red-handed by Anne.’
“Just passing by,” she said.
“Just passing by?” Anne Sutton looked at Sharon Sutton and said, “Don’t tell me you can’t make it out there and came to find Mom to ask for money?”
Sharon Sutton stiffened at Anne’s words, which were a complete blow to her pride. “What I do is none of your business! You think you’re so great? Without Nathan Fawcett, you’d be nothing.”
