Chapter 809: Chapter 401: The Demon Race Will Never Be Slaves (2)

"Avenge them!!!" The other members of the Ape Race echoed, their voices converging like thunder.

Instantly, waves of furious, roaring shouts erupted throughout the cave.

"Good!!!" Cheng Zongyang looked at his forty-odd companions. He raised his arm and roared, "We of the Ape Race are born Warriors! We have always been free! The Demon Race will never be slaves!!!"

"The Demon Race will never be slaves!!!"

Thunderous roars exploded in the cave once again, beating against the heart of every Ape Race member like war drums. His companions and clansmen looked at Cheng Zongyang, an unyielding fire gradually igniting in their eyes.

A surge of heroic pride swelled in Cheng Zongyang’s chest as he met their gazes. He knew the curtain was about to rise on this war of rebellion. For freedom and dignity, they were about to engage in a life-and-death struggle against the mighty Human Race.

Outside the cave, the night was pitch-black and the howling wind raged. It was as if heaven and earth could feel the anger and determination blazing in the hearts of the Ape Race, cheering them on for the battle to come.

Cheng Zongyang walked out of the cave and gazed up at the dark sky. Hearing the commotion, many members of the Ape Race from nearby caves also stepped out to look, still unaware of what was happening. However, this was the resting area for the Ape Race; the Human Race overseers would not stand guard here at night. Over the centuries, the Human Race had long since assumed that the Ape Demon clan no longer harbored any thoughts of rebellion. The first few generations of the Ape Race, those most likely to revolt, had died out long ago!

In the days that followed, Cheng Zongyang led his clansmen in secret preparations for the uprising. They used their breaks from mining to gather ore and hardwood to fashion crude weapons. Inside the mines, apart from the black ore, there was also a type of unwanted Black Crystal. Because of its extreme hardness, they claimed it for their weaponry.

Cheng Zongyang knew their weapons were far inferior to those of the Human Race, but they possessed hearts willing to fight for freedom.

Seven days after the meeting, the sky was overcast. As a new day of mining began, the Human Race brought in food. Everything proceeded as usual. The two overseers distributing the rations suspected nothing. Above, dark clouds gathered, foreshadowing an approaching storm.

Cheng Zongyang stood at the very front of the Ape Race, his hand gripping a Crystal Dagger hidden beneath his linen clothes. The lineup today was a little different from usual. Standing at the front of the queue, Cheng Zongyang made a subtle hand gesture behind his back.

His well-drilled companions instantly understood and subtly moved to surround the area. Meanwhile, one overseer stood guard while the other began distributing food.

"Line up!" the whip-wielding man barked angrily, seeing Cheng Zongyang and a few others crowding right in front of him. He immediately lashed his whip at Cheng Zongyang.

At that very moment, Cheng Zongyang abruptly snatched the whip mid-air. Before the man could react, Cheng Zongyang yanked him forward with tremendous force.

Startled, the overseer channeled his Mana into the whip. To his utter bewilderment, the Ape Demon lunged straight at him. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that an Ape Demon would rebel!! This was something that hadn’t happened in countless years.

However, this brief moment of disbelief and shock cost him the chance to react.

The next second, the Ape Demon—who towered a full shoulder higher than him—slammed him to the ground. Pinning the overseer’s arms down with its feet, it clamped a hand over his mouth as a sharp pain pierced his neck.

At the same time, Cheng Zongyang’s move served as the signal. The Human Race overseer distributing food was instantly stabbed through the body and neck by the sharp blades made of Black Crystal wielded by the others at the front of the line.

It happened so fast and so abruptly that no one had time to react. The moment Cheng Zongyang struck, the remaining Ape Demons behind him swiftly encircled the area.

Although there was some commotion, the dense wall of Ape Demons—all over two meters tall—completely blocked any view of the Human Race overseers. However, this unusual huddle attracted the attention of others nearby.

Following the days of training and planning under Cheng Zongyang, the Ape Demons on the outer ring began laughing loudly, aiming to lure the other Human Race members over. They made it look like a crowd of onlookers simply gawking at a spectacle in the center.

Sure enough, the other twelve food distributors rushed over, completely unaware of what had just transpired.

In the center, following Cheng Zongyang’s instructions, the two dead Human Race members were propped up, straddling two Ape Demons who gripped their wrists to simulate a struggle. In reality, they were just manipulating the corpses.

As the twelve men approached, the outer ring of Ape Demons parted to let the Human Race members step inside. Then, they silently closed the circle once more. The strange situation drew the attention of the remaining Ape Demons, who quickly crowded around as well.

The moment Cheng Zongyang saw the twelve men step into the trap, he suddenly struck. At the same time, the other Ape Demons drew their Black Crystal daggers and pounced on the Human Race members, tackling them to the ground.

Cheng Zongyang’s younger brother roared out, "Clansmen, today is the day we fight for freedom! Let the Human Race know that our Ape Race is not to be trifled with! The Demon Race will never be slaves!!"

Instantly, the rest of the Ape Demons who had been waiting to strike piled on, giving the Human Race no chance to resist.

This scene utterly stunned the Ape Demons who had only come to watch the commotion. Yet, goaded by his brother’s roars, that nearly extinguished ember in the hearts of some Ape Demons seemed to reignite.

"We were born as Demons, that is our fate! But our Ape Race refuses to resign ourselves to it!! Today is the day our Ape Race fights for our descendants, for our freedom, and for our ancestors!!

"If you still acknowledge yourselves as part of the Ape Demon clan! If you have any dignity, any hot blood left in you, then follow our leader and fight for yourselves and your families!!"

"The Demon Race will never be slaves!!"

"The Demon Race will never be slaves!!"

"The Demon Race will never be slaves!!"

The Ape Demons who had just slain the Human Race members rose to their feet, wielding their Crystal Daggers and roaring out the chant! Ignited by the slogan, many surrounding Ape Demons raised their arms and joined the roaring chorus!

At that moment, Cheng Zongyang stood up. Instantly, the Ape Demons in the inner circle fell silent and backed away. The ones on the outer edges also halted involuntarily.

Then, they saw Cheng Zongyang gripping the neck of a dying Human Race member who was gasping for his last breaths. Coating the five fingers of his left hand in the blood from the man’s neck, he slowly dragged them diagonally down his own face. The bright red blood left behind striking, gruesome streaks.

Anger and absolute resolve blazed in his eyes, making him look like a god of vengeance stepping straight out of Hell.

Facing the crowd of Ape Demons, Cheng Zongyang announced loudly, "Today, our blood feud with the Human Race begins a new Chapter! They have enslaved us, slaughtered our kin, and treated our suffering as their entertainment. From this moment on, we will no longer remain silent! We will no longer endure!"

The flames of wrath burned even brighter in the Ape Demons’ eyes as they listened to his words. Gripping their weapons tightly, they awaited Cheng Zongyang’s command.

Cheng Zongyang tossed the Human Race man aside, slowly raised his right hand, and roared, "From this day forth! The Demon Race will never be slaves!!"

"ROAR!!!"

In an instant, this sight and these words thoroughly ignited all the Ape Demons! Even those who had initially just been spectating let out massive roars and joined the fray.

"Now, find every usable weapon you can, and follow me!!"

Taking the lead, Cheng Zongyang looted whatever was useful from the fallen Human Race members and charged toward their stronghold. Immediately, all the Ape Demons followed suit. They grabbed stones, picked up wooden clubs, and even hefted mining hoes.

Gradually, the vast majority of the Ape Demons in the area joined the uprising. It was as if their years of suppression had been detonated in this single moment. Like a raging flood and descending Fierce Beasts, they stampeded toward the Human Race’s stronghold.

The Human Race members at the stronghold did not actually possess much Power. When they saw that the Ape Demon clan was rioting—and took in their overwhelming, dense numbers—their faces turned deathly pale from terror.

Some immediately tried to flee on their Magical Artifacts. But what met the Human Race Cultivators was a dense barrage of stones. Panic-stricken, the Cultivators who hadn’t managed to fly very high yet were pelted by rocks before they even had time to deploy their Talisman Shields. Battered and bleeding from their heads, they plummeted back to the ground.

Meanwhile, the Cultivators still on the ground at the stronghold set up their defenses. However, undaunted by death and signaled by Cheng Zongyang, the Ape Demons hurled a massive storm of rocks at them.

The distance between the two sides rapidly closed.

The battle erupted in an instant, war cries and agonized screams intertwining.

Cheng Zongyang fought at the forefront, plunging right into the Human Race’s ranks. He brandished a Magical Artifact Long Saber he had taken from a Human Race Cultivator, every strike infused with the years of hatred and wrath borne by the Ape Race.
