Marvel: I Made the SCP Foundation Real
Chapter 61 The Birth of Spider-Woman—Searching for Catherine!
Inside a classroom at Midtown School of Science and Technology, Gwen Stacy listened absentmindedly to her teacher’s lecture.
Ever since visiting the science laboratory at Empire State University yesterday, Gwen had felt that something was wrong with her.
All five of her senses had become extraordinarily sharp.
Her strength had increased tremendously, and her movements were now far too agile and precise for an ordinary person.
Her physical transformation was only part of the problem.
She was also deeply concerned about the conversation between her parents, George and Helen Stacy.
Although they had kept their voices extremely low last night, Gwen had heard every word clearly—even from outside the room.
Gwen lived in Queens, and the possibility of serious trouble erupting in the city left her deeply unsettled.
After all, she was still only a high school student who had experienced little of the wider world.
Peter Parker was one of Gwen’s friends at school.
They had originally become acquainted because Peter had a crush on Gwen’s best friend, Mary Jane.
At Empire State University’s spider exhibit yesterday, Gwen had also seen Peter get bitten by a spider.
Peter hadn’t admitted it, however.
Gwen had tried several times today to find an opportunity to speak with him about the incident, but something had always gotten in the way.
She remained distracted until the final bell rang and the teacher dismissed the class.
Amid the cheers of the other students, Gwen watched Peter Parker pack his bag and prepare to leave.
She hesitated but ultimately decided not to stop him.
Gwen quietly gathered her books and placed them inside her backpack.
As she did, her hand suddenly brushed against something hidden inside an inner compartment.
It was a rectangular metal case with an airtight seal.
The device looked extremely advanced and even had a fingerprint lock.
“Who put this in my backpack?”
Gwen’s mind filled with questions.
Then she remembered her parents’ instructions.
Her mother, Helen, would pick her up after school today. She would also ask the school to excuse Gwen for several days so they could stay with relatives in the countryside.
Gwen decided not to think too deeply about the strange metal case for now.
She slung the backpack over her shoulders and left the school.
As usual, Gwen stood beside the road outside the school gates and waited for her mother.
A brand-new BMW M3 she didn’t recognize suddenly stopped in front of her.
The door opened.
A familiar, cool female voice came from inside.
“Get in.”
“Dr. Elivise? What are you doing here?”
The woman sitting inside was indeed Dr. Elivise, whom Gwen had met yesterday.
However, she looked completely different.
For some unknown reason, her hair had transformed into a striking mixture of snow-white and red.
She was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, giving her an unusually mysterious appearance.
Gwen immediately became wary.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t go with you, Dr. Elivise.”
She stared suspiciously at the older woman, who now looked like an entirely different person—an extremely dangerous one.
Before Gwen could become any more cautious, she noticed several hostile-looking men in black closing in around her.
They were clearly armed.
No matter how she looked at them, they resembled stereotypical school shooters.
“Don’t move, little girl!”
Elivise immediately gave Gwen a meaningful look.
Faced with the rapidly deteriorating situation, Gwen didn’t hesitate.
She dove into the car and slammed the door behind her.
Elivise floored the accelerator.
The M3 shot forward.
Gunfire erupted behind them.
High school students, parents, and nearby pedestrians screamed and scattered in every direction, plunging the area into chaos.
Several bullets struck the M3’s side mirrors and shattered its windshield.
Elivise remained completely calm as she drove.
Two mysterious black helicopters pursued the M3 from above.
At the same time, one unmarked black MPV after another began appearing along the road.
Elivise suddenly slammed on the brakes and threw the M3 into a drift.
The car swung around and sped into a narrow alley.
“Get out!”
Elivise jumped from the car with Gwen.
She grabbed Gwen’s hand, planted her feet against the wall of a nearby building, and began running straight upward.
“Let go of me! I can move on my own!”
To Elivise’s surprise, Gwen broke free from her grasp and followed her up the building.
Just like Elivise, Gwen bounded across the walls and climbed all the way to the rooftop.
Once they reached the roof, Gwen stared intently at Elivise.
The two beautiful women—one older and one younger—spoke simultaneously.
“What do you know?”
They stared at each other in confusion.
Elivise pressed a hand to her forehead and sighed.
“I… lost part of my memory.”
“I only remember that I left something with you.”
“So this was all your fault! Were you responsible for the changes to my body too?”
Growing emotional, Gwen pulled the metal case out of her backpack.
Elivise clutched her head in pain and shook it, looking as though she genuinely couldn’t remember anything.
“I… don’t know.”
The moment she finished speaking, Elivise’s expression changed.
“Watch out!”
Both women leaped aside.
BOOM!
A missile struck the place where they had been standing, tearing the rooftop apart.
An AH-1Z attack helicopter had fired at them from approximately seven or eight hundred meters away.
Its pilot stared at the two figures who had dodged the missile.
“Are those two even human?”
As Gwen fell from the building, she instinctively fired a strand of webbing toward the structure across the street.
The web attached itself to the opposite building, and Gwen swung upward.
Elivise spread her body and glided through the air like a bat.
Both women landed on the rooftop of the neighboring building.
They exchanged a glance before sprinting across the rooftop at extraordinary speed.
The two leaped from the edge, moving so quickly that even the AH-1Z couldn’t maintain a targeting lock.
After reaching the rooftop of an abandoned apartment building, Gwen looked at Elivise with a complicated expression.
It seemed she would never be able to return to an ordinary life.
Frustrated, Gwen kicked an empty can off the roof.
“What are we supposed to do now?”
“We need to find a reporter named Catherine. I… think she gave me an address where I could contact her.”
Gwen glared at the dangerous woman who had dragged her into this mess.
“Fine! Let’s find this Catherine woman.”
“I still want my normal life back!”
Elivise tilted her head and studied Gwen with her wine-red eyes.
“Is being superhuman really so terrible?”
“It… isn’t entirely terrible.”
“I’m just angry that you dragged me into all the trouble you caused!”
A moment later, the two women leaped from the rooftop.
