Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Fleet Annihilation

Daniel carried Yon-Rogg all the way back to S.H.I.E.L.D. He didn’t bother slowing down for the trip. After all, Yon-Rogg was a Kree. His physical constitution was far stronger than a human’s, and on top of that, he was an enemy.

So, there was no reason for Daniel to go out of his way to make the ride comfortable. If the guy died on the way... well, that was just his bad luck.

Still, Yon-Rogg was surprisingly tough. Even after enduring the terrifying air pressure caused by Daniel’s speed, he somehow managed to stay alive. Granted, he was only clinging to about half a life at this point.

If Daniel hadn’t accidentally destroyed his combat suit earlier, he probably wouldn’t have been injured this badly. The Kree Empire’s technology was actually quite advanced. It was just unfortunate that they’d run into someone as absurd as Daniel, talk about his luck.

...

When they returned to S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick immediately noticed the man dangling from Daniel’s hand. The uniform looked exactly like the one Carol had been wearing when she’d first arrived on Earth.

"A Kree?" Nick asked.

Daniel nodded before noticing Nick’s face.

"What happened to your eye?"

Nick had one hand pressed over his left eye, which looked like it had been scratched.

"It’s nothing."

He shrugged casually.

"This mischievous little kitty gave me a swipe."

Before Daniel could reply, the Skrull impersonating the director called out from the holding cell next door.

"That’s not a cat. It’s a Flerken."

"You’d better stop carrying it around everywhere. It’s a lot more dangerous than you humans are."

Daniel turned towards him and the Skrull immediately added, "I wasn’t talking about you."

Nick ignored him completely. Instead, he picked up Goose and held the orange cat towards the Skrull. The Skrull, who had been leaning comfortably against the cell door, instantly stumbled backward several steps.

"I don’t care whether it’s a Flerken or not."

Nick proudly stroked Goose’s head.

"As long as you’re afraid of it, then to me, it’s still my adorable little kitty."

The startled Skrull refused to back down.

"I sincerely hope your eye gets better."

Then he looked at Daniel and Carol.

"My name is Talos. I’m the leader of the Skrulls, and I think we should talk."

Daniel ignored him, instead, he turned towards Carol.

"The spaceship Yon-Rogg came in, it’s still where we left it, right?"

Carol nodded.

Nick’s eyes immediately lit up.

"An alien spaceship... that was valuable."

He cleared his throat.

"I’d be more than happy to help recover it."

Deep down, he was already thinking, ’Recover it and maybe dismantle it for research while we’re at it. Should I use S.H.I.E.L.D.’s resources?’

He thought it over. Then he shook his head, better not. He wanted to keep it for himself. Even though he wasn’t Director yet, Nick had already begun quietly building private safe houses and stashing away useful resources all over the world.

Daniel simply shook his head.

"There’s no need to do that. I’ve got another way."

He pulled out his phone and called Tony. The line connected almost immediately.

"What?"

Tony sounded annoyed.

"I’m busy."

His breathing was... a little uneven. Curious, Daniel activated his super vision to see what Tony was doing. He just took one glance and immediately looked away. Suddenly, he regretted satisfying his curiosity.

"I just got hold of an alien spacecraft. The kind that can travel through wormholes. But since you’re so busy, I won’t bother you."

"I’ll just ask someone else."

There was complete silence for a while and a few seconds later, Daniel heard the unmistakable sound of someone hurriedly getting dressed.

"Where?"

Tony asked immediately.

"Send me the location."

"I thought you were busy."

Daniel smiled.

"I just realized..." Tony replied with complete seriousness, "...that I can squeeze a little time out of my schedule."

"You’re my friend. So, helping you with a small favor is the least I can do."

That was classic Tony. Daniel wasn’t surprised in the slightest. He simply gave him the coordinates of Yon-Rogg’s crashed ship before hanging up. He didn’t need to explain anything else as Tony certainly wasn’t going to treat him unfairly.

After putting away the phone, Daniel noticed Nick staring at him with an expression full of resentment. It almost gave him goosebumps. Daniel quickly looked away and turned towards Talos.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

Talos spoke earnestly.

"We have no intention of harming Earth. We only want to find the Light-Speed Engine Dr. Lawson left behind and once we find it, we’ll leave."

Nick couldn’t help interrupting.

"You literally tried to kill me a little while ago."

"That was an accident."

Talos answered with a completely straight face, not even remotely embarrassed. He looked sincerely at Carol.

"We’re searching for the Light-Speed Engine because we’re trying to find a new home. We Skrulls are the real victims, the Kree invaded our homeworld."

"If you don’t believe me, you can ask that Kree."

He pointed at the unconscious Yon-Rogg hanging from Daniel’s hand.

Carol looked over.

Yon-Rogg simply kept his eyes shut and refused to say a word. After a moment of silence, Carol spoke quietly.

"I remember Dr. Lawson once said, the Light-Speed Engine wasn’t created for war. It was meant to save lives."

Talos’ eyes immediately lit up.

"Dr. Lawson was a wonderful person. Even though she was Kree, she always stood on the side of the Skrulls."

Daniel couldn’t help feeling slightly amused.

’Why does this make Dr. Lawson sound like a Kree traitor?’

Talos continued explaining everything in painstaking detail. After a long conversation, Carol finally began believing him. She then looked at Nick.

"Let him out."

Nick looked reluctant but Carol reassured him.

"It’s fine, Daniel and I are here. He won’t dare try anything funny."

Only then did Nick unlock the cells and release Talos along with the other imprisoned Skrulls. Daniel, meanwhile, was already getting bored, he had absolutely no interest in the centuries long feud between the Kree and the Skrulls.

He only cared about one thing, waiting for the Accuser Fleet. He wanted to punch some spaceships. After discussing things for a while longer, Carol looked at Talos.

"Once we deal with the Accuser Fleet, I’ll take you to the coordinates Dr. Lawson left behind."

She gave him a meaningful look.

"I hope you haven’t been lying to me."

Talos smiled awkwardly.

"Of course not, Skrulls never lie."

Carol let out a cold laugh.

"Oh right, a species whose entire ability revolves around impersonating other people, you sound very convincing."

Just then, Daniel suddenly looked upward.

"They’re here."

His super vision had already spotted a fleet emerging from hyperspace beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Carol’s eyes lit up.

"Then let’s go."

She cracked her knuckles.

"This time, leave some for me."

Daniel grinned.

"Whoever destroys more gets more."

"No..." Carol shook her head, "Half and half."

The two actually started arguing over how to divide up the enemy ships. Only after Daniel saw the fleet launching missiles towards Earth did he finally sigh.

"Fine, fine... they’ve already fired, so no more arguing."

"Half each."

Carol smiled with satisfaction.

"That’s more like it."

The moment she finished speaking, her entire body exploded into crimson light before shooting into space. Daniel immediately followed.

Leaving behind Nick and Talos, staring awkwardly at one another. Seeing Talos start walking towards him, Nick instantly picked up Goose and held the cat protectively in front of himself.

"Don’t come any closer."

...

Out in space, Carol intercepted only half of the incoming missiles. The other half, she deliberately left for Daniel. If they were splitting everything equally, then everything meant everything.

...

Aboard the Accuser flagship, Ronan looked at his second in command.

"Has C-53 really developed missile defense technology this advanced?"

The officer immediately brought up the external cameras. The screen displayed Carol and Daniel effortlessly destroying the missiles.

Daniel even looked directly into one of the cameras and smiled.

Ronan "..."

He suddenly had a feeling. Yon-Rogg might have just gotten him into serious trouble.

...

Daniel and Carol split up. Each took one side of the battlefield. Carol fought exactly as she always did. She simply accelerated forward and rammed straight through one Kree warship after another, tearing them apart with her body.

Daniel thought that style looked a little too... crude. He preferred elegance. Twin crimson beams erupted from his eyes. His heat vision sliced effortlessly through ship after ship.

One after another, the Kree vessels exploded into brilliant fireballs. Within moments, more than a dozen warships had been reduced to drifting wreckage. Only Ronan’s massive flagship remained.

Inside the command bridge.

Ronan stared at the monitor, one of his legs twitched slightly. His face, however, remained completely expressionless.

Outside the ship, Daniel and Carol hovered silently before the bridge, looking directly at him through the armored viewport. Ronan met their gaze without flinching.

For several long seconds, no one moved. Then Carol suddenly clenched both fists together. A surge of brilliant cosmic energy burst from her hands.

Daniel wasn’t about to be outdone, so without hesitation, he unleashed a full-powered Solar Flare.

An overwhelming wave of golden energy engulfed the flagship, the sight was magnificent. The enormous warship erupted into a chain of explosions, lighting up space like a spectacular fireworks display.

Inside the bridge, the violent shockwave threw both Ronan and his second in command off balance. They nearly collapsed to the floor.

After standing stiffly for so long, their legs had finally gone weak. The second in command swallowed hard.

"Accuser..."

"What... what do we do now?"

Ronan maintained the same calm expression, only his slightly trembling voice betrayed him.

"...Retreat first."
