Chapter 205: The Primordial Ten Suns Disaster

  • Next Chapter

No longer paying attention to the mud-and-stone monsters below, Li Shun transformed into a streak of lightning and fled at full speed.

However, it seemed that his act of burning them with raging flames had thoroughly enraged the entire group of monsters.

One grayish-white figure after another awakened from beneath the earth.

They immediately locked onto Li Shun's position and shot toward him.

They surged forward like an overwhelming tide, densely packed like a dark cloud.

Li Shun's scalp went numb at the sight.

“Thunder moves swiftly, and fierce winds bring inevitable change. Though something may be close at hand, one must think carefully. Once thought becomes action, action will bring it to its destination.”

A golden light suddenly enveloped Li Shun.

In an instant, his speed surged several times over.

This was a flying escape technique from the Spring and Autumn Brush lineage known as Thunderous Fury Instantaneous Movement.

Although it could greatly increase one's flying speed for a short period, afterward the cultivator would fall into a state of weakness due to the overloading of the principle qi within the body.

But at this moment, Li Shun could no longer afford to worry about what came afterward.

He was certain that if these monsters caught him, he would be torn into countless pieces in an instant.

With the secret technique activated, Li Shun quickly widened the distance between himself and the pursuing monsters.

But there was nothing to provide cover across this vast, open wilderness.

Thus, they could always keep close behind him.

“A gentleman is broad and at ease, while a petty man is anxious and troubled.”

“Withdraw into secrecy, where no one can know.”

Li Shun responded by rapidly striking out several more golden characters.

As the principle qi circulated within him, his figure, which had been flying forward, appeared to continue moving ahead.

Only its speed gradually slowed.

The monster horde continued their pursuit.

They did not realize that what they were chasing was merely a phantom incarnation created by Li Shun.

His true body had silently concealed its aura and fled in the completely opposite direction.

The method proved effective.

Before long, the overwhelming horde of monsters had all been lured away.

Seeing no trace of those strange figures anywhere in his field of vision, Li Shun finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But he was still in this wilderness, deep within the monsters' territory.

Li Shun did not completely lower his guard.

He had no idea where he was.

With no information whatsoever about his surroundings, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and continue in his current direction.

It took a full two days before Li Shun finally escaped the monsters' pursuit.

Although the scenery on the surface had not changed much, it seemed that he had finally left the monsters' territory.

Those strange mounds resembling graves were nowhere to be seen.

Li Shun stopped and panted heavily, taking a moment to recover.

“The primordial wilderness really is exceptionally dangerous.”

“If I hadn't been able to fly the moment I entered the illusionary realm, I'm afraid I would have fallen into the hands of those monsters.”

“And died without even knowing why.”

“I've flown for so long, and apart from that group of monsters, I haven't encountered a single other living creature. I wonder whether that's fortunate or unfortunate.”

Just as Li Shun was lamenting his circumstances, the wilderness suddenly underwent a transformation.

The gloomy clouds that had remained densely packed overhead all this time quietly dispersed without him noticing.

Ten blazing suns suddenly appeared high in the sky.

In merely a moment, the entire world became scorching hot.

Even the cold winds blowing across the wilderness were suppressed.

The appearance of ten suns in the sky brought far more than merely a rise in temperature.

Under the blazing sunlight, Li Shun felt waves of piercing pain shoot through his divine soul.

Even his cultivation at the upper-tier of Spirit Resonance seemed to be igniting.

It was as though a dam covered in countless tiny cracks was about to collapse completely in the next instant.

Li Shun narrowed his eyes and looked up at the ten suns in the sky.

He did not know whether it was merely an illusion, but these ten great suns seemed to be extremely far from the earth below.

They were nothing like the normal distance between the sun and the ground.

Perhaps precisely because of this, despite the ten suns hanging overhead, the wilderness did not immediately turn into an inferno.

But Li Shun knew very well that he would certainly be unable to endure prolonged exposure to such scorching sunlight.

He immediately prepared to dig a hole in the ground and take shelter.

By all rights, this was his old specialty.

It should have been effortless.

However, he had barely dug a few feet into the soil when Li Shun suddenly felt dizzy.

He did not know what was hidden within this earth.

The moment he disturbed it, waves of rotten, decaying stench rushed straight into his head.

Even when Li Shun held his breath, the odor somehow found its way into his body.

The circulation of his principle qi gradually slowed.

He even began experiencing various hallucinations.

The barren wilderness beneath his feet seemed to come alive.

Pale arms stretched out from the earth one after another, trying to drag Li Shun down and pull him beneath the ground.

Li Shun had initially intended to endure it by force.

But soon, he was horrified to discover that the lower half of his body was actually beginning to merge into the soil.

Even after he flew into midair, he could still vaguely feel the powerful attraction coming from the earth below.

Cursing inwardly, Li Shun decisively abandoned his attempt to dig a shelter.

He endured the scorching sun and continued flying for another half day.

By then, his cultivation was almost about to fall to the middle-tier of Spirit Resonance.

Li Shun finally found a place where he could stop and rest.

It was a naturally collapsed pit in the wilderness.

Although it emanated a faint sense of danger, Li Shun had already become somewhat dizzy from being scorched by the ten suns overhead.

He could no longer afford to worry about anything else and immediately took shelter in the shadow of the deep pit.

The moment he was no longer exposed to the ten suns, Li Shun instantly felt as though he had come back to life.

After letting out a long breath, he circulated his principle qi, stabilizing his cultivation realm.

“This primordial illusionary realm is actually this dangerous.”

“I've heard the legend of the ten suns appearing in the sky before. It was a devastating catastrophe that occurred during ancient times.”

“But every time the primordial illusionary realm opens, the point in time at which the constructed world exists is not fixed.”

“In theory, famous events that have already occurred should never be reproduced. It should merely be a pure primordial wilderness. Yet for some reason, this time, such a change has occurred.”

“Fortunately, the ten suns did not appear immediately after we entered the illusionary realm. Otherwise, before the disciples of the Hundred Schools had adapted and regained their ability to fly, they would have been exposed beneath the ten suns. The consequences would have been disastrous.”

As Li Shun pondered this, he gradually recovered after a period of meditation.

Only then did he begin examining his surroundings.

The deep pit was not circular.

Instead, its shape resembled the footprint of some enormous monster.

It was clearly a pit that had been forcefully stamped into the ground by a single foot.

What was strange, however, was that within a thousand miles of this wilderness, this was the only footprint.

Moreover, there was none of the disgusting aura Li Shun had encountered when digging earlier inside this trampled-out pit.

It seemed that the aura of whatever creature had left this footprint had suppressed it.

Li Shun estimated the size of the footprint's owner in his mind.

He could not help feeling horrified.

“At least a thousand zhang tall. What kind of monster is this?”

“Before it, a human would be no different from an ant.”

“The primordial ancient wilderness really is far too dangerous.”

Li Shun shook his head slightly.

This trip into the primordial illusionary realm had not gone nearly as smoothly as he had imagined.

His luck had been poor. He had arrived in a completely unfamiliar region.

All he could do was wander around blindly like a headless fly.

If things continued like this, forget about finding the Tongtian Divine Mountain. Even preserving his own life would be difficult.

“However...”

“The primordial illusionary realm lasts for only a single day.”

“I may be able to use [Threefold Self-Reflection] and start over.”

“This time, I'll simply treat it as reconnaissance.”

With that thought, Li Shun's aura gradually settled.
