Master of Fangcun
Chapter 206: Traveling Without Knowing the Way
Li Shun patiently waited in the deep pit until nightfall before finally poking his head out.
Unlike the peaceful nights of the previous few days, tonight was completely different.
Corresponding to the ten suns hanging in the sky was a bizarre blue moon.
It was like the eye of some unknown existence, calmly watching all living beings upon the vast primordial land.
The ten suns brought unimaginable heat, while the blue moon descended with extreme cold.
Before long, Li Shun discovered that a fine layer of frost had already formed across the surface of his body.
Even worse, as the temperature across the wasteland continued to fall, the speed at which his thoughts operated also gradually slowed.
His entire body seemed to be rusting, slowly being devoured by the sinister blue moonlight.
Left with no choice, Li Shun retreated back into the deep pit.
The air remained bitterly cold, but without being directly exposed to the blue moon, he gradually felt his ability to think return to normal."With my current strength, as long as the ten suns and the blue moon remain in the sky, there is no possibility of venturing outside to explore."
"Even if I use every means at my disposal, I would have difficulty lasting half a day."
"Yet when I first entered this illusionary realm, the ten suns and blue moon did not appear. There was only that gloomy, overcast sky..."
"Perhaps this isn"t the normal state of the illusionary realm, but rather part of a cycle."
Li Shun"s thoughts raced.
Before entering the Primordial Illusionary Realm, Zhao Cheng had given him some explanations.
This Primordial Illusionary Realm had been constructed through the combined efforts of countless schools, using the former Tongtian Divine Mountain as its foundation. It was not a simple recreation of the Primordial Era at some particular point in history. Instead, it had been constructed based on the various traces and remnants left behind by that ancient golden age.
Thus, it was a bizarre and fantastical world.
Many of the legends he had once heard about could potentially be unfolding simultaneously within this illusionary realm.
Li Shun did not risk venturing outside beneath the blazing suns and freezing moon. Instead, he continued to lie low within the deep pit, patiently waiting for a change.
The abnormal phenomenon of heaven and earth lasted for a full seven days.
After seven days, the spectacle of ten suns hanging in the sky abruptly disappeared.
In its place once again came the boundless gloom that Li Shun was familiar with.
"This time, I should finally be able to travel safely."
Li Shun secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He tentatively flew out, but discovered no discomfort whatsoever.
The world between heaven and earth was eerily silent, as though most living beings had perished during the previous catastrophe.
Following his original plan, Li Shun began exploring in the direction where the sun rose.
He flew for more than half a day, yet the scenery before him did not change in the slightest.
"This wasteland is already so vast. It's difficult to imagine just how immense the entire Primordial World must have been. But when I think about it, that isn't surprising. Even a mere fragment split from it was enough to give birth to the Great Qian World that exists today."
Just as Li Shun was thinking this, however, a faint sense of incongruity suddenly rose within his heart.
His brows furrowed slightly, and he immediately stopped, looking around.
He tried to find the source of that strange sensation.
Yet after searching for a long while, he still could not find its origin.
"Strange..."
Li Shun was certain that what he had just felt was not an illusion.
After pondering for a moment, he ultimately decided to continue onward.
However, this time, his speed was noticeably slower.
As he flew, he carefully observed his surroundings.
The wilderness seemed to have remained unchanged since time immemorial. Barren, desolate, silent, monotonous.
Li Shun examined everything for a long time, yet could not find anything unusual.
What made him increasingly uneasy, however, was that the inexplicable sense of incongruity was appearing more and more frequently.
It was as though some terrifying creature hidden within the wilderness had already fixed its gaze firmly upon him.
His body began instinctively warning him. Every hair stood on end, while his heart pounded violently.
Li Shun had no choice but to stop once more.
Strangely enough, whenever Li Shun stopped flying, that bizarre sense of incongruity would gradually disappear.
But the moment he continued flying through the wilderness, the feeling of deadly danger became increasingly intense.
After contemplating for a while, Li Shun descended from the sky to the ground.
He attempted to replace flying with walking.
Unexpectedly, before he had taken more than a few steps, an uncontrollable sense of terror suddenly erupted within his heart.
The vague sense of danger he perceived was far more intense than when he had been flying through the sky.
"What exactly..."
Just as Li Shun was utterly baffled, he inadvertently turned his head and saw the stretch of road he had just walked across.
Under normal circumstances, given his current cultivation, his body was as light as a swallow and his steps swift as flight.
Even when walking, he absolutely should not have left behind any footprints.
But...
Upon the wilderness beneath his feet, a footprint made by his step was clearly visible.
And...
The shape of this footprint did not originate from his own foot.
Or rather, it was not shaped like a human foot at all.
Instead, it was exactly the same shape as the deep pit where Li Shun had previously taken shelter.
"Could it be that after staying inside that deep pit for seven days, I was unknowingly influenced by it?"
Li Shun's heart suddenly lurched.
To verify his speculation, he struck the air and created a character-shaped seal, which transformed into a sheet of water.
He then flew through the air while the water mirror recorded the scene.
After a moment, Li Shun returned and examined what the water mirror had recorded.
The bizarre scene made his scalp instantly prickle.
He saw that every time he flew a certain distance, he would involuntarily stomp once in midair.
His movements and posture were extraordinarily strange, yet Li Shun himself seemed completely unaware of it.
"As expected, that deadly sense of danger comes from the contamination of the footprint's aura!"
"And the more frequently I unconsciously make those phantom steps, the more footprints I leave behind. The more severely I am eroded by its influence."
"Who knows how long this deep pit has existed, yet it can still be this bizarre."
After identifying the cause, Li Shun instead became calm.
He returned to the ground and, like an infant, began learning how to walk all over again.
This time, he no longer paid attention to the road ahead.
Instead, he focused entirely on the movements of his own body as he walked.
Whenever his right leg lost control and instinctively tried to step down according to the rhythm of that bizarre footprint, Li Shun would forcibly stop it, leaving his leg suspended in midair.
Every time he disrupted the rhythm, he felt wave after wave of dizziness.
His body's instincts urged Li Shun to follow the rhythm of the footprints as he walked.
He could even faintly hear indescribable whispers beside his ears, angrily rebuking him for resisting.
Li Shun endured the nausea and continued maintaining his own walking rhythm.
During this struggle, he felt as though his entire body was being continuously torn apart by some unfathomable force.
It was as if he were about to split into two completely different beings.
Fortunately, Li Shun"s will was exceptionally firm, far surpassing that of ordinary people. He did not lose himself. Instead, step by step, he gradually found his own rhythm of walking once more.
"Urgh!"
After finally breaking free from the influence of the footprint, Li Shun suddenly felt an overwhelming wave of nausea churn within his stomach.
He immediately bent over and vomited.
A long, blue-gray worm exuding an aura of decay was spat out of his mouth.
And the face of that blue-gray worm...
Was exactly the same as Li Shun's.
At that moment, the worm was still facing Li Shun, seemingly shouting and cursing at him.
Yet not a single sound came out.
"What the hell is this thing?"
Li Shun stomped down viciously, crushing the worm beneath his foot.
