Master of Fangcun
Chapter 207: Finally Encountering Buxian Mountain
After spitting out that strange, elongated worm, Li Shun completely broke free from the influence of the footprint.
Even so, he still felt a lingering sense of fear.
After entering the Primordial Wilderness Illusion, everything he had encountered, the strange being, the ten suns, the blue moon, and the footprint.
Even the earth and soil beneath his feet.
Every single one had revealed an inexplicable strangeness.
"A moment of carelessness, and I could have become trapped within it."
"Was the ancient Primordial Wilderness really this dangerous to inhabit?"
"Or is there something wrong with the particular place I entered?"
While sighing inwardly, Li Shun did not forget the purpose of his journey.
He continued eastward, searching for any traces of the possible Tongtian Divine Mountain. He had no idea when the next appearance of the ten suns would occur, so he increased the speed of his flight.
Fortunately, this stretch of wilderness was truly desolate. He could not see a single living creature.
Thus, even after pushing his flying speed to the limit, Li Shun did not attract the attacks of any other creatures along the way.
After flying continuously for another ten days, the scenery before him finally began to change.
Traces of green gradually appeared across the earth. The endless, barren wilderness slowly transformed into a lush grassland brimming with life.
More importantly, not far ahead, Li Shun suddenly saw a towering mountain that seemed to connect heaven and earth!
Unlike the mountain ranges he had seen in later generations, the mountain before him was clearly towering into the clouds, piercing straight into the heavens.
Yet when Li Shun had previously looked into the distance, there had been no trace of this mountain anywhere in his field of vision.
Only after he entered this grassland did the mountain seem to leap directly into his sight, appearing abruptly out of nowhere.
'Looks like my luck isn't too bad. I've found the Tongtian Divine Mountain so quickly.'
Although Li Shun thought this, he did not lower his guard in the slightest.
A divine mountain capable of reaching the heavens would naturally be occupied by living beings.
If he wanted to climb to its summit, he would inevitably have to contend with its guardians.
Li Shun descended near the divine mountain and concealed his aura while carefully observing his surroundings.
Once he was on the ground, he felt even more strongly how towering the mountain before him was.
It was not part of a continuous mountain range. Instead, a solitary peak rose abruptly from the earth, stabbing straight into the firmament.
Li Shun raised his head and gazed upward.
The mountain summit was hidden within the white clouds, completely invisible.
At the foot of the mountain, however, there seemed to be living creatures dwelling there.
Li Shun could see rows upon rows of wooden structures, but for the moment, he could not see any inhabitants.
Without acting rashly, Li Shun continued to conceal himself and observe.
When night fell, a clear and resonant song suddenly drifted down from the mountain.
A long procession consisting of several hundred people returned from the mountain toward the village.
"Humans."
Having encountered so many strange things, Li Shun instinctively let out a sigh of relief upon seeing his own kind.
But at that very moment, a furious shout suddenly erupted from within the crowd.
Before Li Shun could even react, a figure violently crashed into him, then slammed him firmly onto the ground.
The attacker's speed was simply too fast.
In the blink of an eye, Li Shun had already been subdued.
An inexplicable force suppressed him, leaving his entire body completely immobile.
Even the principle qi within his body could no longer circulate normally.
Only then did Li Shun finally get a clear look at the attacker who had suddenly launched his assault.
He was a middle-aged man with a square-shaped face, appearing to be only in his thirties.
His upper body was bare, his muscles clearly defined, yet his skin was covered in intricate tattoo-like patterns.
At that moment, the middle-aged man was sternly demanding something from him.
Unfortunately, Li Shun could not understand a single word of the language.
Li Shun opened his mouth and attempted to communicate with him using the official language of Great Qian.
However, the other man was equally bewildered.
By this time, the main body of the tribe had gradually returned to the village.
An old white-haired man leaning on a wooden staff walked through the crowd and approached Li Shun.
He stared at Li Shun and examined him carefully for a long while.
Then he extended his wooden staff toward Li Shun.
Li Shun saw a white light suddenly illuminate the tip of the staff.
Faint fluctuations of divine sense could be perceived within the light.
Li Shun immediately understood.
The old man was attempting to communicate directly through divine sense.
Without hesitation, Li Shun separated a strand of his own divine sense and made contact with the wooden staff.
The scene before his eyes suddenly changed.
It was as though he had arrived inside a crude wooden hut.
The white-haired old man stood quietly before him, looking at him.
"Which tribe are you from?"
"Judging from your clothing and appearance, you are clearly not a native of Buxian Mountain," the old man asked.
Li Shun answered truthfully, only concealing the fact that this place was an illusion.
"I come from Great Qian. I have come here in search of the Tongtian Divine Mountain, hoping to find an opportunity to comprehend the Dao and encounter the divine."
"There is no Tongtian Divine Mountain within the territory of my homeland. For the sake of my tribe, I ventured out to search for one."
"I passed through a desolate wilderness..."
Li Shun also recounted everything he had experienced in the barren wilderness.
After hearing Li Shun's account, the old man's expression gradually relaxed.
"That was the Land of Wuqi."
"The people of Wuqi have neither gender nor life and death. Once their lives reach their end, they hide themselves underground. After more than a hundred years, they can once again regain their vitality."
"As for that footprint..."
A trace of solemnity also appeared across the old man's face.
"That terrifying yao beast once came near our tribe as well. However, it was driven away by the divine."
"The fact that you were able to remain unaffected by it means that you must be a wise man among your people."
Even though they were communicating directly through divine sense, their conversation was rather difficult.
The old man's word choices and manner of expression were vastly different from what Li Shun was accustomed to.
Nevertheless, these ancient people were remarkably simple and honest.
Whatever Li Shun said, the old man seemed to believe without question.
Not only that, he was also extremely enthusiastic in answering Li Shun's many questions.
Through their back-and-forth conversation, Li Shun gained a general understanding of the ancient village near the Tongtian Divine Mountain.
The mountain was called Buxian Mountain.
The village was called Buxian Village.
There was a god residing upon the mountain.
The god never descended into the mortal world.
Whenever the villagers wished to worship the god, they had to climb the mountain themselves.
Every one of these villagers possessed extraordinary natural gifts.
They did not need to cultivate at all. Their bodies were naturally endowed with tremendous physical strength.
The man who had just subdued Li Shun so ruthlessly ranked only around the middle among the villagers in terms of combat strength.
He simply had a somewhat hot temper.
After returning from worshipping the god, he discovered an outsider hiding near the village and secretly observing them. That was why he had suddenly attacked.
The old man apologized to Li Shun on his behalf.
Through his conversation with the old man, Li Shun also learned that the various human tribes of the Primordial Wilderness occasionally fought among themselves.
However, their conflicts were usually only over the acquisition of various resources.
The Primordial Wilderness was vast beyond measure, and natural treasures were abundant.
As a result, conflicts between human tribes were not particularly intense.
Usually, after some negotiation, the disputes could be resolved.
The true enemies of humanity were the various yao beasts that ran rampant throughout the Primordial Wilderness.
And the Wu Clan.
However, in the eyes of the Yao and Wu, humanity could hardly even be considered an "enemy."
The overall strength of the human race was simply too weak.
They were barely worthy of being considered a source of "food."
The white-haired elder made no attempt to hide this fact.
The reason humanity had managed to survive was, first, precisely because they were so weak.
More importantly, the human race often sought the protection of the gods.
The gods comprehended the Heavenly Dao and possessed strength that was even greater than that of the Wu and Yao.
Moreover, the gods were relatively friendly toward humanity.
That was why the human race had been able to secure a place for itself upon this strange and perilous land of the Primordial Wilderness.
