Chapter 3064. Procedure, and Forethought
Chapter 3064: 3064. Procedure, and Forethought
The sudden arrival of Gil threw some of the alchemists, herbalists, and skilled farmers working in these experimental treetop greenhouses in to panic. They had not known that they would be inspected.
The issue on top of that was that they worked in shifts.
Some of them had been up for hours caring for seedlings that had just sprouted and needed careful care. Others had been taking a break for the first time in a while. Even more were the positions of leaders, recorders, and storage experts that had to make sure that they arrived at the right time for certain experiments or planting procedures.
They did not all like having their schedules changed and needed to figure out the chaos of this.
Luckily, Remey waved every single person off and told them to move as they should be moving. Her arrival was also a surprise, but they all somewhat feared what he might say.
As much as Remey was an amazing hero that stood for the benefits of alchemy and herbalism, people were somewhat afraid of her in those fields of study.
She had been able to get rid of many bad habits and poor practices. That being the case was enough to make many who struggled because of the overcharging unfair pricing of alchemists and their potions but also made the very same people fear when she arrived.
Some herbalists had also been part of the problems since they had not been selling their herbs at a fair price since they knew that the alchemists making plenty of gold could more easily buy the herbs at higher prices.
Then again, that was just how things went. People would always want to make some more gold so that they could bolster their safe funds. Remey just made sure that people were returning to the values they should. And in doing so, people knew she had an iron fist ready to force people to go back to the beneficial and happy ways that kept the world peaceful and happy rather than controlled and manipulated.
If they made a mistake they knew that they would need to explain a whole lot more than just one or two things.
"We are here to examine the fire elemental greenhouses struggling to produce certain herbs. The production of the flame wheel lilies, green ember moss, and the crackling peony are producing fewer herbs week after week and I wish to know why. Remey will observe and will assist in the future planning for these greenhouses and whether or not adjustments will be made. If necessary, we will relocate the entirety of the greenhouse projects in the fire elemental affinities today with Walker’s help."
They had worried about Remey being present but Gil’s words were harsh.
He wasn’t being cruel, his strictness was for a good reason and that had to be focused on. Especially since he wanted to ensure that this was done right.
Many people relied on the herbs here. If the greenhouses were not working, then they had to be fixed. If it was the location, it would be changed. If the herbs were ill and unable to grow, they would be cured.
Whatever the issue, he would fix it even if he had to change everything. That was his burden to hold on to when he stood for the entirety of the people and for Genesis.
The way that Remey looked at him showed her surprise that it was Gil taking on the strict and harsh role here. She imagined she had also been brought along so that she could be the fear in some of their hearts if they were accidentally harming the herbs. Yet, she found that she was here to provide the insight Gil needed to make the right decision through and through.
Maybe she wouldn’t see him teasing and joking so much.
"Please follow me, we are in the first cycle of mana gem dust being added. It should show you some additional changes to the secondary stems being grown for harvest." One of the herbalists who had been preparing their logs for archival was taking it on themselves to tour the two around.
The moment that they walked through the branches and in to the large treetop greenhouse with flame wheel lilies in it, Remey enjoyed the feeling of denser fire mana. The rune formations were clearly providing the ideal conditions that the herbs needed to grow. She even felt the small presences of some fire elemental spirits that enjoyed the area too and would also help the plants grow since their deep connection to the natural flow of fire mana could guide them just by being there.
"It appears that the rune formations are working well. It feels comfortable for me here." She didn’t hide that and Gil nodded. He also looked around at the plants without any flowers on them, and also not a single bud.
"These are the secondary stems being grown. They were cut two weeks ago and are recovering." The herbalist started to explain the process but Remey grimaced when she heard it and looked at the flame wheel lilies.
"Who was the one leading this project? They should know not to cut the main stem until they have already begun growing the secondary stem. They rushed the herbs and the herbs are not growing faster because of that. Change the recorded plans to add an extra week in the cycle. We are not going to force herbs to produce more just because they want to remain on a certain schedule. Plants grow as they wish and that is just the fact."
She spoke out, answering any question that Gil could ask.
The slightly fearful staff sprinkling the dust of fire mana crystals around all reacted and made notes. It was clear that they had expected this but also that the one leading the project had pushed them to move quicker.
"As Remey said, it will be the case to change and make ideal growing times for the flame wheel lilies. Their flowers are beautiful and assist in the birth of fire elemental children from various races. I expect the leader of this greenhouse and experiments to be brought to my office within the next ten hours. They will receive the proper judgement based on the risk they took speeding the progress only to hurt the herbs in the longer term."
Not faulting the herbalists working for the lead was enough to show a strict but understanding expectation. But if this repeated, Gil also made it clear he would make them also accountable for not standing up to a wrong process.
The next greenhouse connected by a few main branches and had multiple levels. The green ember moss crawled up with the heat it gathered and the odd green flames that came from living and consuming small bits of copper metal. It was an odd herb that could be harvested and used to resist metal poisonings from blacksmithing. This was already used by many of the dwarves in the dwarven kingdom, but growing it had always been difficult.
Now it was easier, but production had dropped immensely in the last weeks which has brought Gil and Remey here.
"Oh, this place is too cold." Remey felt it right away.
"Yes, it is being kept dormant, so that we can bring forth a larger growth cycle. It is something that the dwarves believe they often accomplish accidentally because the winds in the caves change." The papers shown after were a good theory, but testing it on a main production greenhouse was foolish and too ambitious.
Gil immediately changed this and had them return it to production growth. The lead was also told to be at his office and answer for why this change was done without forethought. They could have done it on the smaller scaled greenhouses.
This led them to the third greenhouse and Remey looked around confused while seeing all the well growing crackling peony plants. She just didn’t understand where the issue could be if the herbs looked so well. If the fire mana was perfect. If the temperature was ideal. If the nutrition was perfect too.
"I know what the issue is here. Remey, thank you for coming, but they have yet to harvest this one because I can tell they are trying to create sister bulbs. They want to expand the greenhouse and the report is sitting on that wall without being sent to us." Gil sighed, it was a simple mistake but enough to remind everyone of the proper procedures.
It was also enough that he could tell the projected growth in this greenhouse production would be triple once it was done. The new crackling peony flowers could be used to make the heart warming teas that the elderly used to resist the cold of snowstorms more easily. That kept the infants from catching small colds.
He could rest easy knowing that this greenhouse was right on track for what Genesis and the other kingdoms needed.
