(Author’s POV)

"Myra~ ... Myra~ ..." Elio called her name.

Myra, who was in a daze and kept staring at the receding vehicle, snapped out of it instantly and looked at him. "Huhh?"

"Chairman Larson has left. We should go too," he said, looking at her with a concerned look.

Myra pursed her lips and just nodded. They joined the other three, and they all started walking. No one spoke for a while. Only the rustle of fallen leaves crushed underfoot and the occasional chirping of the birds filled the air.

Today, the weather was exceptionally bright and lively. The breeze was gentle and soothing. But in their hearts, the ache and the dullness were so high that they couldn’t notice anything good.

After a while, Brave broke the silence; his voice came out tentative, "Myra~ ... there is~ ... something we need to tell you."

Myra blinked her eyes twice. He continued, "You already know, we came to Esteria to sign a new deal with Chairman Larson. But due to the unfortunate incident, that couldn’t happen, and now we have to return to Kimberg."

Myra’s steps halted mid-motion. Without looking at him, she asked, "When?"

After two seconds, Brave answered, "Today. Our flight has already been arranged."

There was a long silence that stretched until Myra spoke again; her voice was extremely low: "Okay." Her face remained hidden under the mask.

All four of them were taken aback, and so were their wolves. They couldn’t help but knit their brows at her reply.

’Just an, okay? Huhh? Does our mate really not care about us, Rave?’ Raw questioned.

’What is this? I thought she would ask more. But she just agreed like that, so easily?’ Leo was disappointed as well.

’Is she that heartbroken over Fabian? That she’s so callous about us leaving?’ Alex sounded hurt.

’Our mate is way too cold and heartless,’ Drey made a whimpering sound.

Elio quickly said, "There is something we would like to ask of you. May I?"

Myra didn’t say a word. Taking it as a signal, he continued, "Chairman Larson has already announced that your university will remain closed for another three months~... so we were thinking~ .... why don’t you~" His voice trailed off as he hesitated to finish. Hearing her simple okay, he was afraid of what she might answer next.

Dion jumped in and completed it for him, "~why don’t you come with us to Kimberg?"

Another pin-drop silence followed his question as all of them stared at Myra’s back with a complicated look, with countless questions popping into their heads.

’Why isn’t she saying anything? Is she going to reject?’ Elio said through the mind link.

No one replied, but they had the same thought.

Myra finally turned around and looked at each of them before answering. Her penetrating gaze made all four jittery—even Alaric was nervous for once.

They wanted to know what she was thinking, what was going through her mind. But even as her fated mates, they couldn’t hear her thoughts. After all, they would only be able to do so once they had marked her and she had fully accepted them.

"I~ ..." she started. "Sorry, but I can’t come with you to Kimberg."

"Why?" Brave’s question came out before he could stop himself.

Elio took a step closer. "Are you~ ... are you still angry with us? Do you still~ ..." his voice lingered; he dared not finish his words.

"No~ ... no~ ... it isn’t like that, Elio," Myra replied immediately. "It’s not because of you all. It’s just~ ... a lot of things have happened in the past couple of days. I am still trying to process all of it. I need some space and quiet. And also~ ... I want to be with my family."

After hearing her answer, none of them said anything or tried to convince her to come. They understood how rattled she must be. After all, in just a matter of a few days, her life has turned completely upside down.

No one pressed the topic any further. But their mind link channel erupted.

’What should we do now?’ Elio posed the question.

’Myra has made her words pretty clear,’ Brave replied, sighing.

’But~ .... Esteria is a fucking time bomb now. We can’t just leave her here. Once those elders know her identity, hell would break out. I am not going to let her stay in this battlefield, no matter what,’ Dion said with determination.

Alaric remained silent through it all. Clearly frustrated, Alex remarked, ’Al, are you really going to stay silent? She is our mate. We can’t leave her in danger. I won’t allow it.’

Soon they reached the spot where Dion had parked his car. Out of nowhere, Myra made a sound: "Tskk~ ...."

"What happened?" Brave asked without missing a beat.

"Nothing~ ... just felt itchy on my cheek," she replied casually and didn’t stop.

"It isn’t nothing. It has been raining on and off. Even a mosquito bite is dangerous at this time~ ... Let me check it for you," Elio stepped forward.

"There is no need," Myra tried to say no, but he wasn’t having it.

"Let him check, Myra," Brave joined in.

Myra sighed and nodded, then took off her mask. A tiny red, swollen bump had appeared on her left cheek. Elio examined it closely, brushing his thumb over the slightly swollen part and commented, "It’s a bug bite. It must have flown under the mask."

Myra’s entire body tensed as his warm breath fanned on her nose and lips. Her face turned redder than the mark.

*On the other side*

After Jacob’s declaration, Catherine was visibly frustrated. Without uttering a single word, she pivoted and stomped away. Brian chased after her.

"Elder Richards~ ... Are you going to leave it be? And where are you even going?" Brian asked, catching up to her.

"To bathe," she replied, in annoyance.

"Huhh?" he was confused.

"That dead mutt’s scent is on my hands. I need to wash it off," Catherine spat without looking at him once.

They were on their way when Brian stopped, his eyes narrowed.

At some considerable distance, the four Everests brothers stood forming a semicircle. The mysterious girl, the one that Dion had introduced as his girlfriend, was standing in the middle.

Oddly enough, it was not Dion but Elio who was close to her. He couldn’t see Myra’s face but, from that angle, it looked like he was kissing her. He raised an eyebrow, curious.

Catherine realized he wasn’t following her anymore. She turned around. "Brian, what the heck are you doing?"

"I was just~ ..." he started, but she cut him off. "Stop dawdling. I don’t want to stay here even for a minute."

Brian pursed his lips and started to follow her quietly. He turned around one last time and gasped.
