Su Yubing smiled.

"Then maybe I should make a rule."

"What rule?"

"You are not allowed to buy anything unnecessary for one week."

Mo Yuxin immediately looked offended.

"Why?"

"Because our storage ring is becoming a warehouse."

"I need those things."

"You bought a broken cup yesterday."

"It was interesting."

"It cannot even hold water."

"That makes it interesting."

Su Yubing laughed.

"Fine. Keep your strange things."

Mo Yuxin smiled and moved closer.

"Thank you."

"You are welcome."

"Can I stay closer?"

"You are already beside me."

"Closer."

Su Yubing shook her head but opened her arms.

Mo Yuxin immediately moved into the embrace.

Su Yubing gently stroked her hair.

"Happy?"

"Very."

The peaceful evening ended when a group of cultivators arrived at the inn carrying an unconscious young woman.

She was badly injured.

The innkeeper rushed forward.

"What happened?"

A man carrying the woman said, "She was attacked by a demonic beast in the northern gorge."

A healer was called.

But after examining the woman, he shook his head.

"Her meridians are collapsing. I can only stabilize her."

Su Yubing looked up from the courtyard.

Mo Yuxin immediately understood what she was thinking.

"Go."

Su Yubing walked over.

She crouched beside the injured woman and placed two fingers against her wrist.

Golden spiritual energy flowed into the damaged meridians.

The healer stared.

Within several breaths, the woman’s breathing became steady.

Her injuries were not completely healed, but the danger had passed.

The healer looked at Su Yubing in disbelief.

"What kind of healing technique is that?"

Su Yubing smiled.

"Just something I know."

Mo Yuxin stood behind her with a proud expression.

The injured woman’s companions bowed repeatedly.

"Thank you, senior."

Su Yubing shook her head.

"Take care of her."

One of the men hesitated.

"She is a disciple of the Jade Lotus Palace."

Su Yubing raised an eyebrow.

"The Jade Lotus Palace?"

"Yes. She was sent here to investigate why demonic beasts have been moving south from the gorge."

Qin Lian, who had been listening nearby, frowned.

"Why would the beasts migrate?"

The cultivator shook his head.

"We do not know. But the numbers are growing."

Mo Yuxin quietly looked toward the northern mountains.

She could sense a strange movement in the spiritual energy there.

Not dangerous yet.

Just unusual.

She filed the observation away and did not mention it.

They were traveling, not investigating the entire Southern Continent.

The next day, the injured woman woke up.

She introduced herself as Ye Lian.

She was only at the early Core Formation stage, but her sword technique was quite good.

She thanked Su Yubing personally.

"I thought I was going to die."

"You were close," Su Yubing said gently. "Rest for a few days."

Ye Lian nodded.

Then she looked toward Mo Yuxin.

Mo Yuxin was sitting on a low wall, peeling fruit for Su Yubing.

Ye Lian blinked.

"Is she your guard?"

Su Yubing smiled.

"My wife."

Ye Lian froze.

Mo Yuxin immediately looked up.

Her expression became slightly smug.

Su Yubing noticed.

"Do not look so pleased."

"I am not."

"You are."

"Maybe a little."

Ye Lian laughed.

"You two are really affectionate."

"Yes," Mo Yuxin said immediately.

Su Yubing looked at her.

"You do not need to answer everything."

"Why not?"

"Because you are embarrassing me."

"You are cute when embarrassed."

Ye Lian smiled and quietly decided that the two seniors were probably the strangest couple she had ever met.

She turned to leave.

Then stopped.

"Senior Su, if you are heading toward Thousand Dao City, be careful around Blackpine Ridge."

Mo Yuxin asked, "Why?"

Ye Lian answered, "A large group of unknown cultivators has been appearing there. They do not use any sect banners. They have attacked travelers but never taken their valuables."

Su Yubing frowned.

"What do they take?"

Ye Lian shook her head.

"Nothing. They just look at people, ask their names, and leave."

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing exchanged a glance.

It sounded strange.

But they still did not know enough to care.

Their road remained the priority.

After Warmstone Town, they separated from the merchant caravan for the first time.

Qin Lian had to take the eastern commercial route to deliver the remaining herbs.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing needed to continue directly north toward the central highway.

Qin Lian was reluctant to part.

"If you need anything in Thousand Dao City, visit the White River Merchant House."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"We will."

Su Yubing hugged Qin Lian briefly.

"Take care."

Qin Lian smiled.

"You too."

The caravan moved east.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing went north.

For the first time in many days, they were alone again.

Mo Yuxin immediately reached for Su Yubing’s hand.

Su Yubing looked down.

"You missed me already?"

"Yes."

"We were standing together when the caravan left."

"Still."

Su Yubing laughed.

"Come here."

She pulled Mo Yuxin closer.

They walked for several hours without seeing another traveler.

The road became narrower.

The mountains became steeper.

A cold wind came down from the north.

By evening, they reached the edge of Blackpine Ridge.

Tall black trees covered the mountains.

A stone path wound through the forest.

Mo Yuxin looked around.

"This is the place Ye Lian mentioned."

"Yes."

"Do you want to keep going?"

Su Yubing smiled.

"Are you worried?"

"No."

"Then keep walking."

They entered the ridge.

The forest was unusually quiet.

No birds.

No insects.

No small animals.

Even the wind seemed weaker between the trees.

After about half an hour, they saw a small stone pavilion.

Three people were sitting inside.

All wore gray cloaks.

None had sect symbols.

One was drinking tea.

One was reading.

The third was sleeping.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing walked past.

The tea drinker looked up.

"Stop."

Mo Yuxin stopped.

"Why?"

"Names."

Su Yubing frowned slightly.

"Why?"

The gray-robed man answered, "We are conducting a survey for the local road administration."

Mo Yuxin stared at him.

"A survey?"

"Yes."

"In the middle of a dangerous forest?"

"Yes."

"At night?"
