Chapter 1341: I Get That A Lot

[Curse: Death Rejection:

Description: Everyone is rejected by at least one person or someone, but they are all accepted by Death the moment they die. But you are different, you are rejected by all, you are rejected by Death itself, hence you can’t be claimed by it. Rejoice, for you are now undying]

The system chimed as it gave the description of Death Rejection. It wasn’t an ability; it was a curse, and seeing it, Anthony understood how it worked. After all, anyone rejected by Death was practically undying.

His earlier disappointment returned yet again. He had thought that The Lover Of Death was going to wrestle for control, only for it to turn out that the guy was actually here to hand over the Death Rejection Curse. He shook his head and rose to his feet as the disappointment he felt vanished immediately.

The Lover Of Death’s eyes flashed as he spoke again, "you seem disappointed yet again." His tone was flat as he continued, "you are given the ability to remain living forever, yet you still aren’t satisfied." He stared at Anthony as he stood.

Anthony decided to no longer hide his thoughts as he explained.

"It’s not you, Lover Of Death, it’s me." His tone was calm as he met the man’s eyes. "I had come here thinking that I would wrestle with you over control of my body since most inheritance realms and all that are known for kidnapping and taking control over the bodies of the most promising geniuses they meet," he explained.

Hearing Anthony’s words, The Lover Of Death was stunned for a moment. Every time this Human spoke, he always said something he could never predict. Normally, geniuses entered these Inheritance realms wishing to avoid fighting for control over their own bodies, yet here this Human was, wishing for it.

But remembering that Anthony and Nature’s Savant had fought and he had come out on top made The Lover Of Death kind of understand. He guessed that Anthony had simply become too strong for his own good, hence his greatest enemy at the moment was boredom, forcing him to seek death thrills in even the most minor things.

"Can I ask you a question?" The Lover Of Death asked.

Anthony nodded his head in agreement.

"How do you think I gained The Lover Of Death title, and what do you think Lover Of Death actually means?" He asked as he leaned against the wall yet again.

Anthony stayed silent for a moment, then replied, "The Lover Of Death title was probably from you constantly fighting everything in front of you, and as for its meaning, I don’t know, but I’m sure you will explain." His tone was calm as he answered truthfully.

The Lover Of Death nodded his head as he proceeded to explain, "you are correct on the generalization of how I gained my title. As for the meaning, the meaning is quite literal." He paused for a moment, then continued, "as The Lover Of Death, it means I quite literally love death. I love her as a man, I love her as an Oni, I love her as she is a Law, I love her as she is," he stated as though he was a man obsessed over Death, "so, in the event of my death, tell me, why would I look for a way to bypass or cheat death when I’ve finally found a way to be with the one I’ve always loved from the very beginning?" He stated as he stared into Anthony’s eyes without breaking eye contact.

At the question, Anthony felt as though it made sense. He didn’t sense any lie from the man, just pure obsession. It was probably the reason why he never fled any battlefield and simply fought to kill or be killed.

But... Although he didn’t lie, that didn’t mean there was no deceit. One didn’t necessarily need to lie to deceive people or lead them astray.

So, Anthony spoke as what The Lover Of Death said confirmed his thoughts.

"You are alive, aren’t you?" He asked, his question rhetorical. He was certain and needed no answers.

The Lover Of Death paused for a moment, shock flashing through his eyes as he wondered how Anthony had reached this conclusion. Yes, he had told Anthony the truth earlier about him loving Death, but that was simply a misdirection.

Although The Lover Of Death tried to hide his shock, it was still useless as Anthony could quite easily sense emotions through his All Seeing Eyes whenever he wanted.

Before The Lover Of Death could ask how Anthony got to that conclusion, Anthony explained.

"You simply tried too hard." His tone was low and indifferent as he turned and looked around. "You filled your vault to the brim, even with things that shouldn’t exist within the Ecliptica Galaxy. Of course, maybe they should exist, as the Universe is filled with mysteries, but what I’m getting is that you left an Inheritance that didn’t speak of death but of an Ascension," he stated with certainty.

The air seemed to freeze between Anthony and The Lover Of Death as neither of them spoke for the next few moments. Anthony broke the silence as he stated in finality.

"You have Transcended, Lover Of Death. You either found The Path that had been sealed since the Old Ages, or you found a way to cheat The Path," his eyes returning to The Lover Of Death.

Although The Lover Of Death standing here was just a memory, the memory possessed Will, so it possessed the real emotions born from the memories of The Lover Of Death.

"Has anyone told you that you’re too smart for your own good?" The Lover Of Death asked, his usual intrigue, curiosity, and smirk vanishing, his tone sounding flat at this moment as he couldn’t believe that someone had seen through him.

"Yeah, I get that a lot," Anthony replied in a calm tone.

Although he had said that secrets that happened never really bothered or concerned him, he was definitely invested in this. Hundreds of Higher Ones were stuck here, yet The Lover Of Death had left the Ecliptica Galaxy and Transcended thousands of years ago without anyone knowing.

This begged the question: what if, like The Lover Of Death, other Eternal Apexes that were said to have vanished, dying within the Unknown Regions, had all actually found a way to Transcend?

Anthony snapped his fingers as two comfortable couches appeared as he spoke, "since I’ve already deduced this much, it’s best to just tell me, as I can still just deduce the rest on my own. With my intelligence, it’s simply just a matter of a few seconds or a minute at most."

The Lover Of Death’s expression changed into a smirk once more as he asked as he sat, "I might no longer be within the Ecliptica Galaxy, but I can very much still kill you right here." His tone not bearing an ounce of threat.

"Hoo!!! I thought the Death Rejection ability was supposed to make me immortal. Are you already calling your own supposed ultimate reward a fake?" Anthony asked rhetorically, clearly unimpressed and unmoved by the threat.
