Chapter 1342: Altar
The Lover Of Death stayed silent, hearing Anthony’s words. The smirk on his face changed into a genuine smile as he spoke.
"I wish I met someone of your strength and intelligence when I was around," he stated as he actually meant that.
He loved Anthony’s nature of not backing down; it was exactly like his. Such a person would have made a perfect rival on his journey to the top. As he was lost in thought, he couldn’t help but wonder how Anthony had seen through his faked Death. Anybody else wouldn’t have seen through it.
Yet, the Human before him had differentiated between a Death Inheritance and a Transcendence Inheritance.
The Lover Of Death decided to explain since there was nothing to hide anymore. He didn’t doubt Anthony’s words about him figuring it out himself.
"As you’ve said, I’ve indeed Transcended," he stated to explain, his tone calm. "Just as you’ve guessed, The Path is indeed closed, and even I thought that was the only way to transcend and become a True Higher Entity." He paused for a moment, then continued, "many Eternal Apexes searched for the Reader Of Mysteries’ Master throughout the Ten Grand Regions, but I had a better idea. What if the Reader Of Mysteries’ Master was never within any of the Ten Grand Regions, but had found a home in the Unknown Regions?"
Anthony didn’t say anything, as he simply listened. If he were in The Lover Of Death’s shoes, he would also think the same way. After all, the man had evaded people for millions of years; the only remaining plausible explanation was that the man had turned the Unknown Regions into his home. Or... he had read The Path and Transcended on his own, just like how The Lover Of Death had Transcended.
"I spent a couple thousand years moving between the Unknown Regions and Grand Regions as I searched for the man," The Lover Of Death continued, "but I didn’t just look for him. I also looked for various treasures, items, and many other things, as I can’t pin my hope of Transcendence upon him. And during that time, I found most of the treasures in my vault in the Unknown Regions," he explained calmly without rushing.
"And during one of my usual tours of the Unknown Regions, I finally found a way to transcend." A flicker of pride seemed to flash through his eyes as he spoke. "In the Unknown Regions, I found an Altar, a way to communicate with Death itself. Not the Grim Reaper or the Ferryman and all that, but actually Death that governs all of Existence and Creation," he stated.
Anthony’s eyes narrowed in a bit of suspicion. He couldn’t help but wonder how such an artefact or item that enabled communication with Death itself as an Entity could be within the Upper Galaxy. Such things should be hidden away in various Dimensions and such.
But at the same time, he understood that there was never a rule that stated that all powerful and great treasures must be kept at a particular place or direction. After all, even on a random planet, one can find a Universe-shaking power. It was simply how Reality functioned.
Besides, an artefact like that Altar was probably one of a kind, meaning no other artefact of such a level of power could exist within the Unknown Regions. As if there was some Altar or magical way to communicate with something like Time itself, then it would all be too suspicious.
"At the time, I tried to take the Altar back to the Grand Region I was currently residing in, but the Altar was stationary and couldn’t be moved, so I had to shuttle back and forth." The Lover Of Death continued, "it took me about three centuries to activate, but to people like us, that’s barely a second, and after that, I was able to communicate with Death itself." He paused for a moment as though wondering if he should continue this.
After a moment of hesitation, he continued, "I communicated with Death, and she saw my devotion and love for Her, hence I was accepted as one of Her True Followers." His tone was calm as he decided not to speak of the private matter between him and Death. "All in all, as a True Follower, I couldn’t remain here, so She helped me leave the Ecliptica Galaxy by experiencing death first, then taking my soul and resurrecting me Above. It was a way to bypass the sealed Path, not that it could restrict Her power anyway," he stated in finality.
Although the Oni didn’t go into details, he understood perfectly. It was a perfect loophole, after all. When one died, their souls always met at one place. Whether they died at a Lower Galaxy, a Higher Omniverse, or whatever, all souls always met at one place, meaning that with his death, The Lover Of Death successfully left the Ecliptica Galaxy, then returned to life right after at wherever the Above was.
And as The Lover Of Death had said, the sealed Path could never restrict Death’s ability if She chose to make someone Transcend, but it seemed she just followed that method without the unnecessary hassle.
Anthony could only wonder if The Lover Of Death truly understood the level of being he had communicated with. After all, Death Herself was an entity on the level of the River Of Time.
But it was kind of pleasing that even until his death, The Lover Of Death never died to someone; even the Unknown Regions couldn’t kill him. Till his death and even in his death, he remained undefeated. Dying only of his own will and choosing. He was a true Anomaly.
"Is the Altar still available at the moment?" Anthony asked, curious, not that he needed it for anything.
The Lover Of Death shook his head as he replied, "you will have to look for another method to Transcend if you want to." His tone was calm.
"I don’t need the Altar to transcend, Lover Of Death. If I wanted, I could transcend right now and meet you wherever you are right now," Anthony replied without a change in expression.
His words were indeed true. With the Authority Of Severance, he could sever the distance between him and The Lover Of Death, hence stepping out of the Ecliptica Galaxy. It was simply that easy.
The Lover Of Death stayed silent. He didn’t doubt Anthony’s words. But he couldn’t understand this Human’s existence; his age, power, means, intelligence, and everything about him didn’t make any sense, but he said nothing about it. He had simply come to understand the level Anthony seemed to stand at despite not possessing the cultivation rank to match it.
"It doesn’t matter. The Altar was destroyed the moment I used it to communicate with Her," he explained. "And I also can’t discuss what I spoke about with Death, nor can I tell you how to activate the Altar," The Lover Of Death explained.
Anthony nodded his head and said nothing else. Although he wanted to know what these two discussed, he knew he couldn’t. After all, even with the Authority Of Severance and Thought Conception ability, Death wasn’t something he could influence in the truest sense.
This was an Entity that stood even above the First Human.
