Chapter 141 - 115: An Irreconcilable Vendetta Over a Deceased Husband
Chapter 141: Chapter 115: An Irreconcilable Vendetta Over a Deceased Husband
Everyone thought it was impossible for Mary to accept Lian’s proposal, because Lorne Jackson was the best chess piece in her hand—the stepping stone for her ambition to annex Blue Moon Territory.
And Grace, along with her unborn child, was the crucial bargaining chip used to control Lorne Jackson.
Once both the piece and the chip fell into her opponent’s hands, Mary would lose this game.
She would no longer have a legitimate reason to lay claim to Blue Moon Territory.
But to everyone’s surprise, Mary generously agreed.
"Alright."
Mary took the sword from Lian’s hand and returned it to Yaxin Matic.
"Yaxin Matic, are you still willing to be my Chief Knight?"
"I swear to serve you until death. I will forever be your knight."
Having regained what he had lost, Yaxin Matic’s emotions were on a roller coaster.
Lorne Jackson couldn’t believe his ears. Mary had actually agreed to release him, and Grace too. ’Am I dreaming?’
His eyes were filled with confusion.
The Maid, Mina, helped Lorne Jackson to his feet and began to lead him over to Catherine.
Mary didn’t stop them, instead saying nonchalantly,
"Lorne, as your wife, I respect your decision. Rose Territory is always your home. You’re welcome to return anytime, my Lorne Jackson."
A faint smile played on Mary’s lips.
She didn’t believe she would lose. She was playing a much larger game.
Even with Mary’s assurance that she would return Grace to him, Lorne Jackson still felt uneasy.
He knew Mary was not one to compromise so easily.
Mary led her Knight Order out of Blue Moon Castle as the crowd of nobles watched them go.
Only after she was completely gone did the people in the banquet hall breathe a collective sigh of relief, feeling as though a great weight had been lifted from their hearts.
The oppressive atmosphere was eased by cheerful music.
But they knew Mary would likely settle the score later. After all, they had, to some degree, all betrayed their initial pacts with her by choosing to pledge their loyalty to Catherine.
Their only consolation was Catherine’s fiancé, Lian Moria. Lian was the grandson of the Empire Prime Minister, and the Moria Clan was one of the Seven Great Creed Families.
This powerful backing put them slightly more at ease.
Furthermore, Lian had clearly gained the upper hand in his confrontation with Mary and had even succeeded in rescuing Lorne Jackson. This gave them a great deal of confidence and encouragement.
It made them believe they were on the right path.
Here was a ruthless, shameless Lord Moria who was a master of manipulation. With him at the helm, the futures of both Green Shade Territory and Blue Moon Territory were limitless.
Having regained his freedom, Lorne Jackson tightly embraced his sister, Catherine.
"Catherine, I still remember when you were born. You were so small... I can’t believe you’re all grown up now. The Jackson Family has wronged you."
Lorne Jackson said, his voice filled with emotion.
The reunion with his sister felt like sunlight on his depressed heart, a warmth he hadn’t felt in a long, long time.
Catherine felt the same. She could not turn her back on her family, even though they had once hidden her away in confinement.
She had learned from Dora to accept it all with a forgiving heart and to see things from their perspective.
She believed that Old Jackson must have sent her to the High Tower all those years ago for her own protection.
She believed Dora was the one Old Jackson had placed by her side to be her friend and companion, the one who would offer her salvation.
Therefore, she held no resentment toward the Jackson Family, nor did she blame Lorne Jackson.
This brother, whom she had never met, had sent the Old Knight, Kage Mori, to save her life during her time of crisis.
That’s right. Kage Mori was, in fact, Lorne Jackson’s knight, whom he had gifted to Catherine.
He knew Catherine needed his protection more than he did.
"No, the Jackson Family gave me life. I am merely fulfilling my duty and obligation. Brother, it’s so wonderful to have you back."
Catherine said, her eyes red-rimmed.
The siblings held their embrace for two full minutes before finally letting go.
"Young Master Lorne, you’ve been through so much."
Kage Mori knelt on one knee before Lorne Jackson.
Lorne Jackson helped the Old Knight to his feet. "Lord Kage, you’ve done an excellent job. You protected Catherine well and helped her find a lifelong ally."
But Kage Mori couldn’t forgive himself. He had just witnessed Lorne Jackson’s most humiliating moment and had been powerless to do anything.
The Old Knight knew that if he had intervened, not only would he have failed to save Lorne Jackson, he might have made the situation even worse. That was why he had remained silent.
And Lorne Jackson didn’t blame him for it.
Although everyone present had witnessed his humiliation, now that he was free, Lorne Jackson refused to dwell on what had just happened.
He just wanted to breathe the air of freedom and experience the simple fact that he was still alive.
He was finally free of Mary. Her reign of terror had at one point driven him to fear women. If it weren’t for Grace, he might have sworn off them entirely.
But at the thought of Grace, a trace of worry returned to his eyes.
’Will Mary really give Grace back to me?’
"Thank you, Lian Moria."
Lorne Jackson looked toward Lian.
Lian didn’t see the word "Heartless" in Lorne Jackson’s status, which proved Mary hadn’t taken his heart.
’That’s strange.’
’Would Mary really let go so easily?’
