Chapter 175: Chapter 130: The Difference Between a Girl and a Woman (Part 2)
That argument successfully convinced Mary.
Mary knew the nature of men all too well.
Her father, Old Frank, was just such an unforgettable man. Her mother and stepmother were both women he had despised and cast aside; in the end, they either entered a convent to become aging Nuns or were sent to the guillotine.
This filled her with a pessimistic view of love; she didn’t believe in pure, flawless romance, nor did she believe men could ever be truly faithful.
Like her father, she pursued power over love.
She believed men were merely accessories, utterly dispensable.
The day she finally succeeded, she could have any man she wanted.
Coupled with the fact that Lian Moria frequented the pastry shop night after night, even running off with all the pretty girls, Mary found the reason all the more believable.
Since Lian Moria couldn’t have Nancy Stuart and needed an outlet, it made sense that he would do something so absurd.
"So, you want to be Lian Moria’s wife. It seems he really does have many secrets worth exploring."
Mary looked at Nancy Stuart with great interest.
"But don’t forget, the Moria Clan will never accept a slave, a Maid. Your lowly status is something even a face like yours cannot change. You’d best not delude yourself with impossible fantasies. To a man like Lian Moria, you can’t possibly be the only temptation. So, don’t play clever little games or the hard-to-get card. The moment he loses interest in you, he’ll throw himself into the arms of another woman. Moria is never lacking for female company."
"I understand, Lady Mary. I will remain mindful of my status as a slave."
"Don’t worry. While you can never be Lian Moria’s true wife, you can use your body to earn his obsession. His number one mistress... I think the role suits you."
Mary said coolly.
Nancy Stuart knew Mary didn’t want her to belong completely to Lian Moria. A mistress to Lian Moria could just as easily become a mistress to someone else—a position entirely different in nature from that of a wife.
"Nancy, send a new batch of people to Green Shade Territory and Blue Moon Territory. I need to plant new informants there. I don’t want to be the last one to get the news."
These were tasks that could have been assigned to the new Deacon, but Mary deliberately gave them to Nancy Stuart. It was both an expression of trust and a test.
If the Spies in Green Shade Territory and Blue Moon Territory ran into trouble again, it would prove that the problem lay with Nancy Stuart herself.
"As you will."
Nancy Stuart rose slowly, picked up the resin mask, and placed it back on her face.
"Nancy, now that you’re Lian’s mistress, you no longer need the mask. Don’t be afraid to show your beauty to others. In the future, that face will open many doors for you."
Mary said, her tone devoid of any emotion.
"Understood."
Nancy Stuart removed the mask, turned, and left.
The eyes of every servant in the great hall followed her to the far end, and even long after she was gone, they remained staring, lost in a daze.
As she left Black Rose Castle, Nancy Stuart caused quite a stir. Passersby couldn’t help but stop in their tracks to admire her beauty.
It was then that the Minister of War, Sting Litt, who had come to Rose Castle seeking Mary, blocked her path directly.
"Oh, my gods. To think such a beauty exists in this world. You’re one of Lady Mary’s Maids, aren’t you? I’ll have her grant you to me as a gift."
Sting Litt’s gaze was filled with lechery and greed.
The Knights behind him were no different, eagerly anticipating sharing this beautiful, unknown Maid with Sting Litt.
"Lord Sting Litt, I am Nancy Scalia, Deacon of the Rose Thorn and Lady Mary’s chief Maid. If you insist on asking Lady Mary to grant me to you, please remember to prove your value is greater than anyone else’s."
Nancy Stuart said, her expression cold.
Hearing Nancy reveal her identity, Sting Litt instantly recalled his former colleague. He realized she had been hiding her appearance all this time and immediately made the connection to that detestable man, Lian Moria.
Nancy Scalia—Lian Moria’s current mistress.
This ignited a powerful jealousy in Sting Litt.
He already loathed Lian Moria for making his life so unbearably dull lately, and now the man had stolen such a beautiful Spy from the Rose Territory.
’If I’d known Nancy was this beautiful,’ he thought, ’I would have made sure to possess her for a while before she left on her mission. I’d have played with her until I grew tired, then returned her to Mary.’
"Heh, my value is at least higher than that of a slave or a Maid."
Sting Litt grabbed Nancy Stuart’s slender neck, forcing her into a corner at the end of the corridor.
Although he couldn’t compare to Mary’s Chief Knight, Yaxin Matic, he was still a Five-star Glory Knight of Unrivaled Power. He wouldn’t feel the slightest fear even when facing a Five-star Bloodthirsty Assassin head-on.
On top of that, he had two capable Knights with him, both at the Peak of Four-star, considered Half-step Five-star.
The Knights could also coordinate to deploy a Knight Array, leaving Nancy Stuart no opportunity for a sneak attack or assassination.
This put Nancy Stuart at a disadvantage.
"This is Black Rose Castle. Lady Mary could be watching at any moment."
