Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It
Chapter 185: Zachery: Watch Me Wreak Havoc
Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Zachery: Watch Me Wreak Havoc
Iris Sloan had no idea what the two little ones were thinking, and she sighed with heavy worry.
Four hours earlier.
Laura Jennings fumed as she sat at home. Because of Estelle Lockwood, her former socialite friends were secretly mocking her. Ordered by Ethan Sloan to stay indoors, she wasn’t allowed to go anywhere.
Ever since she married Ethan, Laura had grown accustomed to a life of privilege. How could she stomach such humiliation?
Just as she was silently cursing Ethan, the butler announced that Ms. Thea York had arrived.
"Thea!" Laura exclaimed, instantly finding a pillar of support. She began to ramble incessantly, "Thea, you’re finally here! Every single one of these heartless wretches wishes I were dead. You’re the only one who actually comes to visit me!"
Thea’s eyes darted thoughtfully before she let out a gentle, soft laugh. "How could that be? Don’t overthink things, Mrs. Sloan. Nathaniel has just been busy with his affairs."
"What could he possibly be busy with?!" Laura snapped, exasperated.
Thea’s words were laced with hidden barbs, deliberately meant to provoke her. "He has work and family to juggle. Plus, Nathaniel handles everything regarding those three children personally, so naturally, he’s tied up. Mrs. Sloan, perhaps Nathaniel feels that since you’re an adult, the children must come first in all things."
Right on cue, Laura flared up. "I’m his mother! Just because he has kids now doesn’t mean he can cast me aside, does it?!"
Smiling, Thea replied, "Please don’t think like that, Mrs. Sloan. Those three children are quite adorable in my eyes, especially Christian. You can’t blame Nathaniel for being so devoted to them. If I had a child as lovely as him, I would gladly take care of him, too."
Laura still had a bellyful of grievances to air, but just as she opened her mouth, she noticed Thea’s smile fading.
"It’s a pity I don’t have any children of my own. If only I could have a son like Christian..."
Laura abruptly snapped her mouth shut as an idea flashed through her mind. "Thea, do you like Christian?"
Thea’s smile returned, looking perfectly natural. "Of course I do! Christian is so adorable—who wouldn’t like him? I’ve even thought about sneaking him back to my place when Nathaniel isn’t looking."
Laura slapped her thigh. "Well, that’s easy to arrange!"
She had just been fretting over how to get under Nathaniel’s skin, and the perfect opportunity had dropped right into her lap. Her eyes burned with intent. "Thea, if you like him that much, I’ll have Christian stay at your house for a few days."
Feigning surprise, Thea hesitated. "Would that really be okay? Will Nathaniel agree to it?"
Laura puffed out her chest. "Hmph, who cares if he agrees or not? I am the child’s grandmother, and what I say goes!"
Putting on a conflicted expression, Thea murmured, "Then... then alright..."
This had been Thea’s plan all along. Why did she want Christian to go to the York family? Because she had looked into it and knew that Christian had been frail since birth and disliked interacting with others. A child like that would likely crack under the slightest psychological blow.
And if he couldn’t handle it, then he could just die.
Before Thea married into the Sloan family, the York family intended to help her dispose of these three children, ensuring that Thea’s future child would be the sole heir to the Sloan Group.
They absolutely could not allow a repeat of the Stella York fiasco!
Soon, Laura dispatched her people to the Kendrick family’s residence.
Mia pulled the other two into a corner to scheme. "Why is that wicked woman Thea insisting that the Young Master go to her house? She’s definitely up to no good. You absolutely cannot go!"
Christian felt the same way. All that talk about liking him? That woman’s eyes were brimming with calculation and malice; there was no way she actually liked him.
Furthermore, Christian knew much more about the situation than the other two little ones. He immediately briefed them on the York family’s messy affairs.
Mia realized what was going on. "Oh, I get it now! So that wicked woman is an illegitimate daughter herself, and she sees Stella as an eyesore."
Christian nodded. "Mia, do you remember the last time we saw her at Daddy’s company? You could tell she has inappropriate designs on Daddy, right?"
Mia was very smart and grasped it instantly. Her face flushed red with anger. "That wicked woman wants to have Daddy’s babies and thinks we’re in the way! In that case, you definitely can’t go!"
Christian added, "She probably wants me to go over because she’s heard that I have poor health and am emotionally fragile. She likely thinks that with a few sharp provocations, I’ll resort to extreme behavior. The reason she specifically requested me alone might be to pick us off one by one, or perhaps she thinks I’m the easiest to control."
Mia’s heart ached terribly for him. Her eldest biological brother had grown up in such a toxic environment, never receiving an ounce of kindness from people like Noelle Lockwood or Rose Lowell. Because of that, he could always sense the malice of others right from the start.
"Let’s go. We’ll turn her down," Mia said, before turning her head. "By the way, you little dummy Zachery, why haven’t you said anything this whole time?"
The two little ones looked over at Zachery.
In the corner, Zachery’s eyes lit up, and a mischievous smirk crept onto his lips. "Hehe, Young Master, Mia, actually, it’s not like he can’t go."
Mia stared at him blankly.
Zachery coughed twice to clear his throat. "Based on what you two said, this wicked woman is making a huge spectacle out of picking up the Young Master. If anything happens to him at the York family’s home, Daddy will absolutely tear them apart. So, she won’t try anything out in the open.
"The reason she specifically asked for the Young Master is that she thinks he is ’emotionally fragile and easily provoked.’ She intends to mentally torment him into hurting himself... but I’m not emotionally fragile!"
His tone abruptly shifted as he patted his chest, his face practically glowing with excitement. There was even a hint of bashfulness as he bragged about himself. "Everyone says I’m incredibly thick-skinned. No matter what that wicked woman says, it won’t affect me at all."
Mia was speechless. She wondered if there was any possibility that when people called him ’thick-skinned,’ they were just politely reminding him that he was an idiot. What was he acting all shy and bashful about!
Undeterred, Zachery pressed on. "If we refuse today, she’ll just come back tomorrow. Even if Daddy stops her, won’t that wicked woman just find another way? Her go-to excuse is always, ’I’m your daddy’s best buddy, I’m your godmother.’ If she wants the Young Master to go to the York family’s home, then let’s go!"
As he spoke, he started dragging Christian upstairs. "Come on, come on! Let’s swap disguises!"
Christian still felt it was a bit too dangerous, but Mia nodded in agreement. "Zachery is right. If we refuse today, there will just be a next time. We might as well give Thea York a little shock instead!"
Half an hour later, Laura was already losing her patience when she finally saw the three little ones coming back downstairs.
She forced a smile at the ’Christian’ in front of her. "Christian, Ms. Thea wants to take you over to the York family’s place to play for a couple of days. Do you remember? Chairman York even held you when you were six months old!"
Zachery was speechless. He thought, "Are they crazy? What kind of kid remembers things from when they were six months old?"
Clearing his throat, Zachery replied, "But Daddy said I have to stay here at the Kendrick residence and not leave with strange people."
Laura’s expression couldn’t help but twitch.
Smiling, Thea stepped forward. "Christian, do you remember me? I’m your godmother. Don’t worry, Nathaniel won’t mind if you go to my house. Nathaniel and I are like brothers, after all."
"BLEGH—" Zachery deliberately fake-gagged, shooting a pointed look at Mia and Christian. His eyes sent a clear message: "Step aside, I’m about to wreak havoc!"
