Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Dogs Biting Dogs, Estelle Snacks on Melon Seeds

"Mr... Mr. Sloan, when did you get here?"

Sophie Foster looked somewhat terrified, but on second thought, she hadn’t said anything wrong. Wasn’t Thea the person Mr. Sloan loved the most? Estelle Lockwood was just asking for trouble. Since she still refused to get a divorce and make way for Thea, Mr. Sloan probably hated her to death!

So Sophie couldn’t help but try to claim credit. "Mr. Sloan, you’re here. Look at Estelle—she’s actually speaking ill of Thea behind her back!

"She even said that Thea and Mrs. York are both mistresses! Isn’t that pure nonsense? It’s just because Estelle and that dead slut couldn’t get their men to love them. That’s their own problem! How could she blame Thea and Mrs. York?

"You can’t let Estelle keep acting like this. You have to help Thea and teach her a good lesson!"

Penelope Sullivan was absolutely shocked. Where did this brave warrior come from?

No one without a decade of severe brain damage could spout such nonsense.

A full decade. Not a year less.

After Sophie finished speaking, she looked at Nathaniel Sloan with a face full of anticipation.

Nathaniel’s expression was freezing cold. "It seems Miss Foster didn’t learn her lesson last time."

His words were like a basin of ice water, chilling Sophie to the bone.

She vaguely realized something was wrong. "Mr. Sloan, a-aren’t you here to defend Thea?"

"Pfft, hahaha!" Penelope laughed mercilessly. "Some people need to wake up. You think Estelle is a fraud? You think Nathaniel is here to defend Thea York? Miss Foster, do you really think Star’s legal department is just for show?"

The bystanders had also caught on.

"Sophie said Mrs. Sloan is a fraud? What’s her problem?"

"She also said Mr. Sloan cheated on his wife, which clearly isn’t true."

"Even if he did cheat... wait, is cheating something to be praised for? Why does Sophie look so proud of it?"

Sophie immediately panicked and shouted, "What nonsense are you all sprouting! Thea told me all of this, and why would she lie to me?!"

Estelle nodded in satisfaction. "So this was all Miss York’s idea. It seems I somehow offended Miss York without even knowing it."

Nathaniel walked over to Estelle and handed her a bag. "You saw this last time and said you liked it."

Estelle froze.

This bag... she had merely glanced at it in a magazine last time and casually mentioned that the design was nice. To think Nathaniel had actually remembered!

Nathaniel spoke calmly. "This is the only boutique in Crestfall that carries this bag. I was worried someone else might buy it first, so I booked out the entire store."

Slapped in the face once again, Sophie was both furious and exasperated. "Mr. Sloan, even if you want to cover for Estelle, there’s no need to lie! Everyone knows you booked out the store for Thea. You even accompanied her here today! Aren’t you afraid of breaking Thea’s heart by doing this?!"

Nathaniel slowly shifted his gaze to Sophie. Parting his thin lips, he drawled, "Are you questioning me?"

THUD.

Sophie actually fell back onto the floor.

H-How terrifying.

Why did Mr. Sloan look so scary?!

Nathaniel’s aura was powerful and overwhelmingly oppressive. Terrified, Sophie began to tremble, unable to speak a single word for a long time.

"Nathaniel, I don’t like that bag from earlier."

Suddenly, a gentle female voice came from upstairs. Thea, acting as if she knew nothing of what had just transpired, gracefully descended the stairs with a helpless smile on her face. "I’m not a fan of emerald green. I don’t want that bag anymore..."

At that moment, she seemed to finally notice Sophie’s disheveled state and instinctively asked, "What happened? Sophie, why are you sitting on the floor?"

As if she had suddenly found her savior, Sophie scrambled to her feet. "Thea!"

Estelle chuckled lightly. "You’re just in time, Miss York. Miss Foster said a few things earlier that made me quite curious, so I was hoping you could help verify them."

Thea’s brow twitched, but she maintained her gentle smile. "Estelle, we’re friends. Feel free to ask whatever you want."

Estelle nodded, and her first question was an absolute bombshell.

"Miss Foster said you’re a mistress plotting to take my place. Is that true?"

The crowd fell dead silent.

Hold on a minute, Miss Lockwood... Mrs. Sloan! That question was completely devoid of tact! It was way too blunt!

Thea’s expression stiffened abruptly. She put on an innocent look. "Estelle... who did you hear such nonsense from? I’m one of Nathaniel’s bros. Why would I do such a thing?"

"Oh? You wouldn’t?" Estelle nodded. "But Miss Foster just said that you were the one who told her this. You said I was just a discarded wife, while you are the one Nathaniel truly loves. You said the one who is unloved is the real mistress, so it’s perfectly reasonable for you to take my place...

"Miss York, I’m quite curious. Is Miss Foster lying, or are you feeling guilty?"

Thea’s fingers curled inward.

This Sophie Foster—why was she so good at causing trouble for her?!

Before Thea could speak, her deadweight teammate, Sophie, chimed in. "Of course what I said is true! Don’t be afraid, Thea. Estelle might be a control freak, but can she control Mr. Sloan’s heart? You’ll be Mrs. Sloan sooner or later, so there’s no need to fear her!"

Estelle’s smile deepened.

Thea was left speechless. Choking on her words, she was unable to force a smile anymore.

Could someone please shut Sophie’s mouth for her?!

Taking a deep breath under Sophie’s expectant gaze, she managed a strained smile. "Estelle... of course that’s false. How could I ever have such thoughts? Sophie, there should be a limit to your nonsense. Even if you like to joke around normally, you shouldn’t cross the line like this in front of Estelle."

Sophie was stunned, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Thea, what are you talking about? Didn’t you tell me all of this yourself?"

Estelle and Penelope straightforwardly found chairs and sat down. If they had sunflower seeds right now, Estelle would definitely be snacking on them.

Thea really wanted to slap Sophie across the face. She said anxiously, "Sophie... how could you do this? Even if you hate Estelle, you shouldn’t..."

Turning to look at Estelle, she continued, "Estelle, Sophie is probably targeting you because she holds a grudge over what happened last time... None of this is true. How could I ever fight you for a man? To me, men are just my bros. I’m solely focused on my career. I don’t care about dating men at all."

Opening and closing her mouth with "what happened last time" and "Sophie holds a grudge against you," she made it sound as if Estelle had done something wrong to incur Sophie’s hatred.

But Estelle absolutely refused to give Thea the chance to be ambiguous. "What happened last time? What exactly are you referring to? Are you talking about how you hid Miss Foster’s bracelet, which caused her to mistakenly accuse me of stealing it, leading to her being kicked out of the banquet?"

The crowd fell completely silent again.

Damn, this was even more of a bombshell.

Although many people had attended Old Mrs Sloan’s banquet, the embarrassing incident involving Thea hadn’t been deliberately publicized. Therefore, there were still many who were unaware of it.

But with Estelle bringing it up like this, everyone was suddenly shocked.

What did she mean by, ’Thea hid Sophie’s bracelet, and Sophie mistakenly accused Estelle of stealing it’?

Didn’t this mean that Thea had intentionally framed Estelle? And yet, Sophie held a grudge against Estelle because of this? Instead of hating the true culprit, Thea?

What kind of brain-dead logic was that?
