Chapter 398: Chapter 398: This Acting Is Just Too Good

During her private conversation with Lynch earlier, he had clearly stated that Aethel wasn’t entirely sure of the person-in-charge’s name. When she introduced herself as Claire Yeats, Lynch hadn’t suspected a thing and had even handed the White Jade Token over to her.

Claire wondered, "Why is Damian suddenly unaware of this? But on second thought, while the other assistants might be in the dark, Damian is one of Mr. Lynch’s close confidants. He has probably heard of Estelle."

Old Mrs. Yeats quickly chimed in, "Mr. White, you’re mistaken. This is Claire Yeats, my granddaughter."

"Claire Yeats?" Damian frowned in confusion. "But I recall..."

"Mr. White." Claire shook her head with a helpless sigh and said, "The person-in-charge personally appointed by Mr. Lynch is indeed my sister, Estelle Lockwood. However, a minor situation occurred later, and I took over the responsibilities from then on. That’s why everyone mistakenly assumed I was the one in charge."

"I see." Damian’s gaze shifted, seemingly uncertain. "So, who has the jade token?"

"Don’t misunderstand. It’s just that Mr. Lynch instructed me to take orders from the token holder. If both of you are in charge, I wouldn’t know whose orders to follow. Why don’t you let me see the jade token first?"

Damian’s eyes met Estelle’s in the air before he calmly looked away. "Miss Yeats, what do you say?"

Claire could hardly conceal her excitement as she thought, "Of course... That is wonderful! Once I present the jade token, Mr. Lynch’s capable assistant will follow my orders. After the collaboration is finalized, I will become famous and even earn the favor of Mr. Lynch’s camp...

"From then on, whenever people mention me, I will no longer be ’that abandoned eldest daughter of the Yeats Family’ or ’someone from the branch family who insists she belongs to the main branch.’ Instead, they will say, ’As expected of the eldest daughter raised by the Yeats Family!’"

Claire felt so euphoric that she seemed to be floating on air.

Old Mrs. Yeats hurriedly urged, "Claire, hurry up and take out the jade token!" Then, she began to stir the pot. "Mr. White, you might not know this, but Mr. Lynch’s jade token was almost lost!"

As expected, Damian frowned, his expression turning stern. "What did you say?"

Estelle nodded inwardly, unable to help but marvel at how excellent the acting skills of Nathaniel Sloan’s subordinates were.

Old Mrs. Yeats deliberately let out a heavy sigh. "As you know, Mr. Lynch handed over the jade token with the expectation that the person-in-charge would use it for the collaboration. Once the partnership concluded, it was supposed to be returned. After all, she was given the token because Mr. Lynch isn’t in Crestfall and needed someone to take charge."

"Naturally. So?" Damian frowned.

"Sigh! But there’s a huge problem!

"As you know, the jade token is meant for the person-in-charge, and Mr. Lynch specifically requested Estelle for the role. Naturally, the token ended up in her hands.

"We all knew she was only holding onto it temporarily, but Estelle thought Mr. Lynch had gifted it to her! She actually turned around and sold it!"

Damian stood up abruptly. "What?! How could Miss Lockwood be so reckless? That jade token represents Mr. Lynch. How could she sell it?"

Seeing that her goal was achieved, Old Mrs. Yeats let out a laugh. "Exactly! How could she sell it? The problem is, after selling it, she even procured a fake jade token to deceive everyone. She almost had us all fooled!"

Damian pressed his lips tightly together. "I will report these matters to Mr. Lynch. But where is the real jade token? It’s incredibly important to him. It absolutely cannot be lost!"

"Don’t worry, Mr. White!" Old Mrs. Yeats changed the subject. "For this, we really have to thank Claire. When she discovered that Estelle had sold the token, she immediately spent millions to buy it back. Otherwise, who knows what the consequences would be!"

Upon hearing this, Damian breathed a sigh of relief and said gratefully, "Thank you, Miss Yeats."

Claire pursed her lips shyly. "It was the least I could do."

Old Mrs. Yeats tutted. "Don’t you think Estelle is too willful? It’s the jade token for the collaboration, yet she just sold it like that. When we reprimanded her, she even got upset. Mr. White, you be the judge."

Damian scoffed coldly. "Such a person is indeed unfit to be in charge of this collaboration!

"Regardless, Miss Yeats, I am very grateful for everything you’ve done. I’ll have someone reimburse you for the money you spent buying back the token. Furthermore, I thank you on behalf of Mr. Lynch. He will remember your favor.

"That jade token is truly vital; it is one of Mr. Lynch’s most prized possessions. He was only willing to hand it over because he valued the collaboration and out of respect for Mr. Silas Lockwood. I just didn’t expect..."

Damian’s words fueled the shareholders’ anger even further. After their fury subsided, they were all filled with gratitude toward Claire.

Indeed, if it weren’t for her, would they be able to withstand Mr. Lynch’s wrath? After all, they were just a small subsidiary under the Yeats Group. Calling it a "branch" was generous; anyone who knew the truth understood its actual worth. Old Mr. Yeats might protect Evan, but this group of shareholders, who had already been driven out by the Yeats Group, would be completely doomed!

Meanwhile, Claire was so excited she was about to faint! The more serious Damian acted, the more it proved the token’s importance! And the more important it was, the bigger the favor Aethel owed her! Basking in the praises of those around her and accepting Damian’s gratitude, she felt like she was floating on cloud nine.

At this moment, the White Jade Token that had been sent away was brought back in.

Claire shot an intentional glance at Estelle before walking up to Damian and opening the box with a smile. "Mr. White, take a look. This is the jade token. Rest assured, not a single scratch is on it. As for our collaboration..."

However, the smile in Damian’s eyes suddenly vanished, replaced by an icy glare!

He looked at Claire, his tone cold and laced with a hint of anger, as if wanting to give her one last chance. "What did you say? You’re saying... this is Mr. Lynch’s jade token?"

Still waiting for his gratitude and everyone’s praise, Claire was completely immersed in her own world and failed to notice the severe tone in his voice. "Yes, Mr. White. I watched Estelle sell the jade token, and right after that..."

"Say that again? This is Aethel’s jade token?!" Damian stood up abruptly, his tone turning dangerously low!

At this point, everyone realized something was wrong. The shareholders froze and exchanged bewildered glances. Sensing the tension, Old Mrs. Yeats quickly stepped forward with an apologetic smile. "Mr. White, what’s the matter? If Claire did anything wrong, you can just..."

"I must say, you all have a lot of nerve! You merely operate under the Yeats Group’s name, yet a struggling little company like yours actually dares to deceive Mr. Lynch?!

"Miss Claire Yeats, I’ll confirm this with you one last time. You want to use this jade token for the collaboration?"

The room instantly fell silent. Cold sweat beaded on Claire’s forehead.

She wondered, "Is... is something wrong? Why is Damian so angry? But what exactly is wrong?! This shouldn’t be happening!"

Estelle curled her lips into a smirk, unable to resist sending a text to Nathaniel Sloan.

[Your assistant has pretty good acting skills. Who is Damian White? Luke White’s brother?]

Nathaniel replied almost immediately.

[It seems his acting is indeed quite good.]

[He’s not Luke’s brother.]

Estelle thought, "Huh? Not Luke’s brother..."

A moment later, Nathaniel sent another message:

[He IS Luke.]

[Was his acting so good... that he even fooled Mrs. Sloan?]

Estelle was speechless.

Her eyes widened in sheer disbelief as she thought, "Wait!! Are you saying that this imposing, intimidating Damian White and that slightly goofy Luke White, who always looks like he’d rather die than work, are the exact same person?!"
