Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Miss Yeats... Is Also Worthy of Being Slandered by Me?

Estelle Lockwood looked up at "Damian White," then looked down at her text messages. She looked up again, then down again. In the eyes of everyone else, her abnormal behavior just made it seem like she had also been shocked by Damian’s sudden outburst.

Estelle was speechless.

She thought, "Huh? What is this?" Looking at it now, though, it seemed there was no problem...

She had initially guessed whether this Damian White might be Luke White’s brother. Not only did they share the same last name, but more importantly, Damian and Luke looked somewhat alike. Of course they looked alike. They were the exact same person! However, Luke’s acting skills were truly impressive. At the very least, she hadn’t seen through his disguise at all.

Claire Yeats’s expression stiffened. In just a few minutes, all the color drained and shifted from her face. She bit her lip and asked stiffly, "Mr. White... is there some kind of misunderstanding? This... this is definitely Mr. Lynch’s jade token..."

She didn’t understand why Damian was so furious. This was the jade token given to her by Mr. Lynch’s other assistant when she went to the Aethel Branch Company. She had even had it appraised. This piece of white jade was top-grade cream-white jade. The texture was incredibly fine, an absolute masterpiece among masterpieces. Most people would ache at the thought of carving such a large piece of jade into a token. Besides, this piece alone was worth millions. At the very least, it suited Mr. Lynch’s status much better than that Green Jade Token, right?

When she received this jade token, Lynch had said many flattering things. There had been many Aethel employees around who witnessed it. If the token Lynch gave her was a fake, it would have been exposed long ago. Therefore, it was impossible... So what was going on with Damian?

Before Claire could figure it out, Damian said coldly, "Miss Yeats, do you not dare to answer?"

"No... of course not..."

Claire quickly snapped back to reality. Everything was a mess right now, and she couldn’t afford to be distracted. Even if she thought about it, she couldn’t figure out the reason. Was Damian dissatisfied with their attitude? But no matter what, this jade token was definitely not a fake, and that was enough! Steeling herself, Claire stated firmly, "Mr. White, this is Mr. Lynch’s jade token. There is no mistake about it!"

"What a joke!" The crowd watched as Damian’s face darkened, his fury palpable. "Mr. Lynch’s willingness to cooperate was purely to show respect to Mr. Silas Lockwood. I never expected that the Branch of Yeats Group, from top to bottom, would deceive Mr. Lynch and try to fool me with a fake jade token! Claire Yeats! Where is the real jade token?!"

Everyone froze in shock.

Claire, however, couldn’t hear anything anymore. The only thing echoing in her mind was Damian’s word...

"Fake."

This White Jade Token was a fake? How could that be?! Lynch had clearly given it to her...

Damian sneered, "Miss Yeats, why are you quiet? You have the guts to fool me with a fake, but lack the courage to admit it? Who gave you the audacity to swap the jade token?! Even Old Mr. Yeats would have to weigh the consequences before rashly offending Mr. Lynch, let alone you lot!"

His words were not wrong. Even though the Yeats Family’s power ranked near the top in the Capital City and they had deep roots, making them unafraid of Aethel, going against Aethel would still cost them dearly. Who would be that crazy? Naturally, they would avoid offending them if possible.

"As for your Branch of Yeats Group," Damian scoffed, "what makes you think you’re so special that you can repeatedly make a fool out of Mr. Lynch?!"

Seeing that things were going south, Old Mrs. Yeats hurried forward and said in a panic, "Mr. White, are you mistaken about something? How could it be a fake? This jade token was brought by Claire... There can’t be a mistake!"

Although Old Mrs. Yeats was furious that Damian looked down on her, she swallowed her pride for the sake of Claire and Destiny. This made Estelle raise an eyebrow. This Old Mrs. Yeats seemed like an irritable and brainless person, yet she was actually able to endure such mockery.

Evan Yeats also hastily added, "That’s right, Mr. White. Even if Claire had all the courage in the world, she wouldn’t use a fake to deceive you..."

"Are you implying that I’m deliberately slandering Miss Yeats?" Damian retorted coldly. "Is Miss Yeats... even worth my slander?"

No one dared to respond to this. Even Old Mrs. Yeats and Evan didn’t dare to utter another word.

The crowd looked at the shareholders of the Branch of Yeats Group with disdain. Yeah, was Damian wrong? What value did Claire have to warrant being slandered by him? Even if he wanted to make trouble for Claire, there had to be a reason. Otherwise, to Mr. Lynch, Claire was nothing more than floating dust, not even worth a second glance.

Damian scoffed, "Besides, I am Mr. Lynch’s assistant.

"What Mr. Lynch’s jade token actually looks like—could Miss Yeats possibly know better than me?"

The crowd’s gazes grew even more contemptuous. It seemed the Yeats Family really had produced a fake jade token! Originally, everyone had been praising Claire and looking down on Estelle. Now it was clear that Claire and Estelle were cut from the same cloth. Both had presented fake jade tokens—who was nobler than whom? Yet Claire insisted on putting herself on such a high pedestal. Now she had backed herself into a corner, hadn’t she?

Under Damian’s piercing gaze, cold sweat beaded on Old Mrs. Yeats’s forehead. Evan was also so panicked he didn’t know what to do.

Only Claire bit her lower lip hard, a sudden idea popping into her head. It seemed the White Jade Token was indeed a fake. Whether Lynch had a grudge against her or not, it was a fact that he had given her a fake jade token. However, Claire didn’t have the time to settle the score with Lynch right now. She had come up with a brilliant plan. Earlier, she had claimed that she bought it back after seeing Estelle sell it. All she had to do was stubbornly insist that this was the very same White Jade Token Estelle had sold, and that she herself had been misled. As for where the real jade token went? They would have to ask Estelle!

Thinking of this, Claire hesitated. She bit her lip as if she wanted to say something, glanced at Estelle, and finally swallowed her words with tears in her eyes.

Naturally, everyone noticed this shift in her expression.

Several shareholders looked at each other and murmured, "Miss Yeats seems like she has something to say?"

"It’s already proven to be a fake. What else can she say?"

"She just looked at Estelle. Could it have something to do with her?"

"Oh, right! Didn’t Estelle sell this jade token, and Claire bought it back? What if it was already a fake when Estelle sold it? Then Claire wouldn’t have known, right?"

Old Mrs. Yeats’s eyes lit up, and she hurriedly said, "Mr. White, our Claire is innocent! She had good intentions but things just went wrong!

"This jade token was sold by Estelle under the guise of ’Mr. Lynch’s jade token’ for a high price of several million. Claire was worried it would jeopardize the collaboration, so she bought it back! She had no idea it was a fake. You... you should be asking Estelle about this!"

Old Mrs. Yeats couldn’t help but smile. Now everything was perfect. She had pushed all the blame onto Estelle.

Sure enough, Damian turned his gaze toward Estelle.
