Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 693: Only Forgetting Is the Highest Contempt

  • Next Chapter

The Deep Space Caller’s weary voice once again echoed from all directions, its tone tinged with mockery. “See? I’ve still managed to stall you. The Spiritual Power Beacon has been active for so long that there’s at least a fifty percent chance it has already contacted Xiu Ge’s home civilization!”

Su Zhou couldn’t hear what the Deep Space Caller was saying, but he could guess the nature of its taunts without even trying.

‘Not enough power to kill it?’

‘Are you kidding me? Don’t I still have my Soul?’

“This is my first time using this Divine Technique, so I probably won’t be able to control the intensity very well.”

Letting out a long breath, the exhausted youth scanned the Shapeless beings scattering in every direction, then shook his head.

The Divine Techniques of the Evil-Devouring Demon Lord, after being enhanced by his True Soul, had evolved to the point where he could use an Evil Soul as a Soul Weapon. After using it, he could even consume it as he would any other Evil Soul.

Of course, Su Zhou usually just ate them to get it over with, so he rarely used this particular Divine Technique… but it had another application.

That is, to use one’s own Soul—a specific emotion—as a Soul Weapon or an Enchantment.

True, it came with the risk of his own Soul being damaged if the Soul Weapon shattered… but what Soul Weapon could be stronger than his own Soul? Or better suited to him?

Raising a hand, Su Zhou plunged his fingers into his temple and into his own brain. With a placid smile, he began to stir.

Under the suddenly silent gaze of the Deep Space Caller, he extracted a part of himself, the part that was his ‘anger.’ “So this is what it feels like to have your anger removed? An unprecedented calm. Even my killing intent has become so.”

He withdrew his fingers and opened his palm. There, a clump of crimson Soul, like boiling magma, appeared in his hand.

Then, it erupted with a searing white light, releasing heat comparable to the surface of a Fixed Star!

Lowering his head, Su Zhou stared at the Soul that represented his anger.

[Evil Soul of the Berserk Slaughterer]

[A ferocious soul born from a rage that never arose for its own sake]

[An Evil Soul possessing devastating destructive power]

‘Why is my own Soul an Evil Soul?’

For a split second, Su Zhou felt a flicker of doubt, but it vanished as quickly as it came. Perhaps it was because his anger had been removed, but he was suddenly at peace with it.

‘Whatever, who cares.’

Pressing the Evil Soul of his anger onto the Blade of Annihilation, the now-serene Su Zhou raised the long blade once more.

At this very moment, as the planet continued its orbital rotation, the sun’s brilliance was receding from the Moon’s Far Side.

The bright battlefield was now being enveloped by darkness, as if submerged in a foggy, endless Abyss.

But in that darkness, a crimson light was ignited. It was the color of blood, the color of rage—scorching hot and filled with destructive power, yet also incomparably pure. The light spread straight along the edge of the Divine Blade.

Countless motes of Spiritual Light flew toward the blade like moths to a flame, and a destructive radiance, as bright as a nova, began Gathering at its very tip.

“It’s… truly beautiful.”

For a moment, even the fleeing Deep Space Caller couldn’t help but have this thought as it witnessed the scene. Although its mind and Soul were screaming warnings, the extreme, pure light of this Soul compelled it to marvel.

‘I can’t escape. Even if I get away for a moment, facing a Monster who wields such pure rage… I’m doomed to be killed.’

The next instant, Su Zhou lunged without hesitation. Wielding the Blade of Annihilation, which now pulsed with a blood-red glow, he shot toward the very center of the scattered Shapeless beings, targeting a monster over ten meters long that housed the vast majority of the Deep Space Caller’s Spiritual Energy.

Then, he swung. With a cascade of crimson Divine Light, his strike cleaved through the silver, gelatinous creature, through the rock of the planet’s crust, through the wreckage of an ancient starship, and plunged hundreds of meters into the ground, turning everything in its path to boiling magma and molten metal.

There was no explosion, no ripple, no extraneous Gale or shockwave. The destructive power, condensed to its absolute limit, transformed into an Evil Soul with the swing of the blade and returned to Su Zhou’s body. He sheathed his blade and stood before the Shapeless, which was now split in two and almost completely charred.

“At least, you will remember me—I am being watched by you…”

The dying Monster was still speaking mockingly, though it was unclear whether it was mocking itself or its enemy. “My whole life…”

“I don’t want to hear your life story. I don’t try to understand Monsters.”

Su Zhou coldly cut off the Deep Space Caller’s Soul Communication. He stared at the creature before him, which was melting and dissolving into a cloud of organic particles. He gazed at this Monster, which had abandoned its human form and who knew what else, and spoke in an icy voice, “No matter what you went through in the past, I have no desire to understand you.”

“It’s not just the other victims; even a Monster that devours evil and Sinners will not pity you. You were once under the rule of an evil Dominator, and you remain so today. John Harrison, you are no longer anything, no longer anyone, and certainly not the Deep Space Caller. Your existence will be erased by me, as will all traces of it.”

“You say I’ll remember you? Wishful thinking. Don’t expect me to remember. Your name will disappear now—from my mind.”

As he spoke, Su Zhou sneered and plunged his fingers back into his own brain. Activating his Thunder Technique, he manipulated the micro-electrical signals to destroy the relevant memory sector.

Immediately after, he extracted all memories related to the name “Deep Space Caller” and “John Harrison” from his Soul, condensing them in his hand into an incredibly faint fluorescent glow.

Under the Deep Space Caller’s gaze, which held an emotion he could no longer identify, Su Zhou crushed it.

At that moment, a hint of confusion appeared in Su Zhou’s eyes, as if he had forgotten something. But soon, he began to laugh.

“To be honest,” the young man said, “I really have no idea who you are, you Slime Monster, or why you’re here—but the anger in my heart tells me I need to go on a killing spree.”

‘The confession is over. It’s time for the execution.’

Then, Su Zhou gathered his Spiritual Power and ignited a Demon Fire, completely annihilating the Deep Space Caller, which seemed to want to say something more, and reducing it to a pile of charred ash.

While the Deep Space Caller did indeed employ a design of Decentralization, its power was insufficient to control so many Shapeless beings. The majority of its true physical body had already been destroyed by Su Zhou in the high-intensity battle earlier. The last remnant was this ten-meter-long husk before him—the vessel for the vast majority of its Spiritual Energy and Soul.

Admittedly, some fragments of its Soul might still exist in other Shapeless beings, but the individual known as the Deep Space Caller had been utterly destroyed. As for the rest, Su Zhou would hunt them down and erase them completely afterward.

In that instant, all the Shapeless beings that had been fleeing in every direction stopped in confusion—once again, they had lost their master.

Then, a pitch-black Evil Soul, with only the faintest glint of silver shining from its very core, appeared before the silent Su Zhou.
