Monsters Die When Killed

Chapter 692: Forgetting Is the Greatest Contempt

  • Next Chapter

“Hahahahaha, you’re just another soul-eating monster!” the Deep Space Caller cackled madly.

“Can’t you see I’m saving people? You fucking idiot.” Su Zhou didn’t want to waste any more words on it. ‘Its intelligence is so pathetic, it’s not even worth arguing with.’

The Moon’s surface around the Spiritual Power Beacon and the spaceship wreckage was bathed in a crimson glow from the battle between the two Commander Tier beings.

In lunar orbit, a grim-faced Meng Jin received a transmission from Earth and nodded slowly. “Understood. As soon as Captain Su’s battle with the Deep Space Caller is over, I’ll make contact and launch the nuclear strike to destroy the Spiritual Power Beacon.”

“How long? Uh… I think it’ll be soon.”

He ended the call, putting down the communication device, and gazed at the distant lunar surface.

On the Moon’s airless surface, a violent tornado of spiritual flame erupted from the clash of the two giant beasts. Two opposing torrents of Spiritual Power collided and ground against each other, scattering brilliant Spiritual Light in every direction and illuminating an area with a radius of over a hundred kilometers.

The spaceship wreckage, which had lain silent for hundreds of thousands of years, groaned and shattered under the violent force. The Giant Dragon swung its fists, whipped its tail, and kicked out with its legs, crushing the enemy’s shell and tearing its flesh. In response, the giant snail lashed out with its tentacles, using Telekinesis to grab the Giant Dragon and slam it into the ground, shattering the terrain. But simultaneously, the Giant Dragon unleashed an intense heat from the Spiritual Light radiating from its body, scorching its foe’s very Soul in a fiery counterattack.

The lunar crust was torn up and pulverized by their power. Accompanied by the Sound of the Soul—a noise that was impossible to distinguish between a sigh and a wail—it was as if a vast portion of the Moon’s surface had transformed into a grotesque Red Lotus Hell.

Su Zhou shattered the giant silver snail’s outer shell, swallowing the human faces on it—souls and all—to preserve them within his own body. In the process, some of his own flesh was stripped away by the highly corrosive Shapeless one. But the Immortal Scales, which Su Zhou had already primed to the point of detonation, immediately blasted apart a large chunk of the Deep Space Caller’s flesh as it tried to digest him.

The foolish John Harrison was still prattling on about how they were similar. Su Zhou, who had long since tuned it out, felt its insight wasn’t even as sharp as that of the Silent from the Spirit Summoning Association. ‘So what if we’re similar? So what if we’re not? That proves nothing, other than the fact that it’s a weakling.’

‘Battle is a process of mutual destruction. The victor is whoever can destroy the enemy most efficiently while preserving themselves most effectively.’ Regarding the latter, Su Zhou and the Deep Space Caller were on par; after all, when two Undead fought, they could forget about defense entirely. But regarding the former, Su Zhou had the upper hand.

With every strike and every lash of his tail, Su Zhou tore off large chunks of the Deep Space Caller’s flesh, either devouring it or incinerating it completely with Demon Fire to prevent it from being re-used. In contrast, faced with Su Zhou’s rapidly regenerating, self-detonating scales, the Deep Space Caller felt like it was trying to bite an exploding porcupine—there was simply no way to get a grip, no way to attack.

In response, it was forced to shift more of its human-faced shell plates into the path of Su Zhou’s onslaught, attempting to use these innocent victims as a shield against his continuous attacks. Su Zhou, however, didn’t seem to care in the slightest, unleashing a relentless barrage of punches. Even as he destroyed the victims’ bodies, he simply swallowed their souls and sent the dazed and numb spirits to keep the bewildered Wisdom Tree Essence Soul company.

“Look after their Spiritual Energy,” Su Zhou’s voice instructed the Wisdom Tree Essence Soul. “I want their souls to be exactly as they were when they were alive!”

‘But I’m a Wisdom Tree, not a Tree of Life!’

The Wisdom Tree Essence Soul wanted to haggle, to argue for the sake of arguing, but Su Zhou knew the best way to deal with a contrarian was to ignore it. So, the Essence Soul listlessly turned its branches and began to tend to the souls—who had no idea what was happening—within Su Zhou’s ridiculously vast Soul Space.

‘Being unable to make a choice is just a sign of weakness.’

‘Sacrifices only happen because you’re not strong enough.’

‘Killing you would harm other innocent victims? I have to choose? Ridiculous. I can kill you AND save them at the same time!’

‘If I can’t even do that, what’s the point of Extraordinary Power? What’s the point of my training, of the path I walk?!’

Su Zhou threw another punch. Having continuously regenerated his Immortal Scales, his entire frame had shrunk by several sizes, and he could feel himself struggling to break the Deep Space Caller’s shell. At the same time, however, the Deep Space Caller no longer had the strength to use its Telekinesis or lash out at him with its thick, shapeless tentacles.

Worse, with so many of the Praisers inside its body stripped away by Su Zhou, its power was steadily declining to the point where it could no longer control its enormous form. Sensing this, the giant silver snail began to destabilize. It planned to flee, unwilling to continue a fight that would very likely end in mutual destruction, or worse, its own defeat and death.

But Su Zhou wasn’t about to give it the chance.

As the giant silver snail dissolved its True Body, breaking apart into countless scattered Shapeless beings, Su Zhou also reverted to his human form in a flash of light.

The light from the Blade of Annihilation in his hand had grown dim. After being used so many times in such a high-intensity battle, even a Divine Blade couldn’t take the strain and needed time to recover.

“Haha, I knew it! You don’t have the strength to kill me anymore.”
