Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 1593 - 1583: As Far as the Eye Can See, Eternal Love—Watching Your Happiness

When his sister-in-law came to see him, Joseph Lancaster was somewhat flattered, jumping off the bed in a hurry, "Sister-in-law, did you come to see me?"

Seeing Joseph so childish, Violet Zimmerman was quite helpless. She closed the door and walked to the bedside, "Why are you so silly? She hit you, and you didn’t even know to run? She’s old and can’t catch up with you!"

"She deliberately knocked over the fish I bought back for you."

Joseph sat on the bed, grabbed Violet’s hands, and looked up at her, a look of grievance on his face.

Eva Hayes did not snatch it from him, she intentionally knocked over the enamel basin, which was something he had ridden a few miles on a bicycle to buy for his child. After Eva knocked it over, he, of course, had to argue.

Violet sighed, "Is the fish more important or are you more important?"

After Violet spoke, Joseph felt even more aggrieved, his eyes slightly reddened as he met Violet’s gaze and said, "In Joseph’s heart, sister-in-law is the most important."

Startled, she abruptly pulled back, trying to shake off Joseph’s grasp, but he held on even tighter.

"Joseph, let go! I am your sister-in-law!"

"And also the mother of my child." Looking at Violet, Joseph enunciated each word.

Violet...

Narrowing her brows tightly, she looked incredulously at her younger brother-in-law, "Joseph, do you even know what you are saying? I am your brother’s wife, married honorably, and I am your sister-in-law. If you keep thinking this way, I won’t speak to you ever again!"

Violet regretted bringing the ointment over, thinking if she had known it would be this way, she shouldn’t have done so. The younger brother-in-law was Daxton Lancaster’s second son, and even if nothing was prepared in the house, the servants would have gone to buy it.

"Sister-in-law, please don’t be like this, don’t ignore me,"

Joseph suddenly embraced Violet, long arms tightly wrapped around Violet’s waist, his face buried in her chest, rubbing lightly, speaking with grievance.

"I don’t want this either, but I can’t forget. In my eyes, my mind, my dreams, it’s all your figure. You are the mother of my child, how can you expect me to forget?"

Feeling the dampness on her chest, Violet’s heart felt choked, and she couldn’t help but gently place her hand on Joseph’s head, gently stroking as she looked forward, slightly raising the corners of her lips, saying,

"Joseph, didn’t sister-in-law tell you to treat it as a dream. When the dream wakes, it should be forgotten."

"But I can’t forget!" Joseph’s voice came from her chest, muffled and frustrated.

"Even if you can’t forget, you must!" Facing forward, Violet’s tone was firm, unsure if she was saying it to Joseph or to herself.

"I don’t want to forget!"

Joseph’s voice sounded desperate, struggling with pain these days. He kept telling himself to forget everything that should not have happened, but he couldn’t let go.

The first woman in his life, the mother of his child; he wasn’t a heartless or indifferent man, how could he forget?

"Sister-in-law, I beg you don’t force me. I never wanted to ruin your happiness with brother. I just want to be good to you, just want to see you happy. As long as you don’t leave my sight, I will be satisfied..."

Listening to Joseph’s heartfelt words, Violet couldn’t say what she felt inside.

This period she had been forcing herself to pretend nothing happened, but some things had truly happened, and even if she didn’t want to remember, the little life inside her was something she couldn’t erase.

As long as this little life existed, some things could not be forgotten.

"Joseph, you’re still too young. When you grow up and find a woman you like, you won’t think this way anymore."

Violet’s voice was light, the corners of her lips maintaining an upward curve, "Since you can’t forget, treat it as a beautiful memory, buried deep inside, for yourself alone."

"I won’t,"

Joseph’s voice was even more pained, cheek pressed against Violet’s chest, closing his eyes. "I can never like another woman because my heart can’t hold anyone else..."

"But eventually, you have to marry and have children. You are a man..."

"No, Joseph never wants to marry."

Violet’s words of comfort hadn’t finished when Joseph interrupted. She thought it was nothing more than a sentence filled with emotion, but she didn’t expect that Joseph, for her, would never marry in his life.

Taking a breath, Violet didn’t want to continue the topic anymore, gently patting Joseph’s back, "Get up, I brought you some ointment."

Holding Violet’s waist, Joseph raised his face, pouty lips obviously acting cute, "You help me apply it."

Violet tried hard to curve her lips, "Okay."

Joseph turned his face towards Violet, hands resting on her waist, the corners of his lips slightly raised, and his brows and eyes softened.

Violet squeezed the anti-inflammatory ointment onto her fingertips, applied it to Joseph’s eye corner, gently rubbing. The cool feeling spread quickly at the eye corner, but what Joseph thought about was, as time went on, his arm might not be able to hold her entirely.

Around the eye corner, and then the lip corner, ear root. Although there were several claw marks at the ear root, the deepest was still the one at the eye corner.

Along the eye tail up, a piece of flesh had been scratched off by Eva Hayes, leaving a deep mark that might scar in the future.

"Does it hurt?"

After applying ointment to the lip corner and ear root, Violet squeezed some more ointment onto her fingertips and applied it to the claw marks on Joseph’s eye corner,

Applying gently with her fingertip.

"It doesn’t hurt," Joseph’s lips turned up more, "so happy."

Seeing Joseph’s face of blissful enjoyment, Violet secretly took a deep breath, massaging the ointment into the skin with her fingertip, "All done, get up."

"I wish I could hold you a little longer."

"Joseph, what did you just say?" Violet frowned, her voice also turning stern.

Joseph released her, still looking up at her.

"Don’t be angry. Brother isn’t here."

Violet...

Just because Daxton isn’t here, does that mean you can do whatever you want? How is that any different from having an affair?

Taking a step back to maintain some distance from Joseph, Violet spoke righteously.

"Joseph, we are brother and sister-in-law. If we don’t want anyone to know this secret, we have to avoid suspicion in the future."

"How can you be so dense?" Joseph frowned with disdain, but his eyes showed affection, "I’ve always been good to you; everyone in the family knows. If I suddenly ignore you, that’s what would make people speculate."

Violet didn’t know if this was Joseph’s excuse or his sincere words, but none of that matter. What mattered was that her heart belonged to her husband, Daxton Lancaster, and not to him.

Violet placed the ointment on the bedside cabinet, "Apply it once more at night, I’m leaving."

"Wait a minute."

Just as Violet was about to turn, Joseph called her, standing up to hold her arms sincerely, "Can I make one last request?"

Violet initially wanted to refuse, but upon meeting Joseph’s eyes, she inexplicably asked, "What?"

"I want to kiss you one last time, the last time, and I won’t bother you anymore."

Joseph raised a finger, eyes filled with hope.
