Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1683 - 1657: As Far as the Eye Can See, Eternal Love – Strive to Be Pregnant When I Return
Daxton Lancaster went on a business trip without telling Violet Zimmerman in advance.
In the morning, after washing up, Violet sat in front of the mirror putting on makeup. Ever since giving birth to Robert, she rarely focused on dressing up.
As a nursing mother, her mind was always on her child. Even though there were servants to help at home, Violet still preferred to take care of her son herself.
It was only after her brother-in-law Joseph Lancaster brought his "girlfriend" home that she started paying attention to her appearance again. Although she didn’t show it outwardly, she unknowingly started comparing herself to Vesper Carter.
Daxton Lancaster casually walked up behind Violet, bent over to embrace her, resting his chin on her shoulder, looking into the mirror with her. He placed a hand on her lower abdomen and spoke softly.
"Violet, I’m going on a business trip in a little while, it should be about a week or maybe longer. During the days I’m not here, try your best. When I’m back, let’s aim for another son."
Violet turned her head, glancing at the man by her face.
"Daxton, why didn’t you tell me you were going on a business trip in advance, and I could have helped you get ready."
Daxton withdrew his gaze back to Violet’s face, "Just wanted to give you a surprise."
Violet...
Realizing Daxton’s meaning, she suppressed the excitement in her heart and pretended to be unhappy, saying, "What nonsense are you talking. You’re going on a business trip and leaving both of us at home. What’s there to be surprised about."
The blush on Violet’s cheeks was keenly caught by Daxton, but he didn’t show any abnormality; it’s human nature for romance, and a promise once made would not be broken.
He stood up, patted Violet on the shoulder, "Hurry up with your makeup, I’ll leave after breakfast!"
...
After breakfast, Daxton went on his business trip, taking the family’s car driven by a chauffeur to the train station. Violet stood in the yard holding her son, watching the car go away.
Ever since Robert started calling people by name, Daxton would accompany him to play every day after work. Over time, their bond deepened. Watching the car Daxton was in drive off, Robert stretched his little arms, pouting with sadness, calling out, "Daddy, Daddy..."
"Oh oh, Robert be good. Daddy is going to earn money to buy treats for Robert,"
Violet comforted her son as she walked back into the yard.
Usually, when Daxton went to work, Violet wouldn’t stand and watch him leave while holding her son. But today, for the first time, Robert saw his father leaving without taking him along, and he cried and wailed endlessly.
He twisted his body towards the direction Daxton left, crying and calling "Daddy," no matter how Violet tried to soothe him, it was futile.
"Oh oh, Robert don’t cry. Mommy will play blocks with you. Daddy went to work, he’ll be back soon, Robert don’t cry..."
Violet carried her son to the front of the villa, Mrs. Zhang had just opened the door, and Robert cried even harder, stretching his arms in the direction Daxton left, tears and snot covering his face.
The child cried fiercely, and Violet’s heart ached.
Late autumn, the weather turned cold. Robert wore a knitted hat on his head, but his little face was exposed to the cold.
She wanted to forcibly take him indoors, but couldn’t bear letting her son continue crying. Leaving him outside worried her he might catch a cold. While in the dilemma, the little one in her arms reached out his small hands toward where Daxton had gone, his cheeks hung with glistening tears, pouting with grievance toward the approaching man, "Daddy, hug me..."
