Chapter 1079 - 1078: You’d Better Run Fast

After that night, Mrs. Chambers said she was pregnant.

He didn’t say it was good or bad, because he simply didn’t care.

He only cared about enjoying himself, fooling around with other women.

When Finn Chandler was born, Mrs. Chambers said it was a boy. When he heard the news, he was so happy he wanted to go see him, but his lover at the time threw a fit and forbade him to go look at another woman. He had no choice but to coax her, and couldn’t be bothered to go see Finn and the mother and daughter pair.

That delay lasted eight years, until Finn was brought back by Old Master Chambers, and only then did he realize he’d ended up with a son.

Over these years, his deepest impression of Finn was that this son was capable and good at making money.

Later, when Finn suddenly became a daughter, at first he couldn’t quite accept it.

"When they can’t get you or get Mrs. Chambers’ position, they pin all their hopes on their children, and the children become tools for you to fight over."

Finn was horrified for himself and for everyone else in The Chambers Family.

Because of Old Master Chambers’ obsession with sons over daughters, because of the indulgence he showed Mr. Chambers, because of Mr. Chambers’ absurdity and irresponsibility, things had ended up like this.

"If you’d been faithful to your own wife, you wouldn’t have fallen for other women. How would there be any illegitimate children? How would The Chambers Family be torn apart by all this internal strife?"

The Chambers Corporation hadn’t always been like this; it was torn up from the inside, everyone scheming for themselves.

"After I got involved with them, I don’t know what happened to those women—they all turned into someone else."

Mr. Chambers said helplessly. When they first started seeing each other, every one of them was gentle and obedient; as the relationships went on, they changed, demanded more and more from him, and started controlling him very strictly.

He couldn’t stand a life where he was being controlled, so he went from one relationship to the next.

"Then you shouldn’t have gotten married at all!"

"Or, if you were going to fool around, you shouldn’t have let them give birth to us."

By the end, Finn felt exhausted. "Just go. You never took care of me before, so don’t bother in the future either."

Mr. Chambers looked at Finn, wanting to say something, then feeling he shouldn’t. He just muttered an "Oh" and turned away.

"From now on I won’t take up with so many women, and I won’t let them have children."

At the doorway, Mr. Chambers made this promise to Finn. He realized what he’d done before was wrong, but had no idea what would count as right going forward.

"The Chambers Corporation has gone under. What are you planning to do?"

Hearing this, Finn softened his tone a little and asked.

The Chambers Corporation really was finished, and Mr. Chambers’ days wouldn’t be easy.

He was used to a life of luxury and had no skills to fall back on; even if he went out to do manual labor, nobody would dare take someone like him.

Once he was no longer Mr. Chambers, there was no chance anyone would take him in.

"It’s fine."

Even when coming to ask Finn for money, Mr. Chambers still had enough pride not to say it outright. He just said faintly, "You’d better hurry up and get out of here."
